Rescue Box is a subscription box for dogs or cats. For dogs, choose from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (20-50 pounds), and large (50+ pounds). This is a review of the large dog box. For reference, my dog Nyx is an 84-pound Rottweiler. Rescue box is associated with Greater Good (the folks who brought you The Hunger Site, The Animal Rescue Site, and more) and your purchase of a subscription will help provide food and vaccines to shelter pets!

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box and more information on The Rescue Box’s charity efforts. I have to say the rescued kitten on the back is adorable, but I have a soft spot for orange tabbies.

Flatties by Hear Doggie (Purple Elephant) – Value $8.99

We’ve had Hear Doggie toys before. The idea is that the squeaker has a pitch that dogs can hear but humans can’t (well, you can hear air escaping from the squeaker and Nyx certainly seemed to enjoy it). These are reinforced with some mesh to keep them from being torn apart, but Nyx outsmarted the mesh.

Nuts for Knots Tug by Multipet – Value $8.99

We’ve gotten Nuts for Knots toys before, in other dog subscription boxes. They usually last a long time and Nyx likes them. One thing that is also good about this box is they seem to actually pay attention to your dog’s size when sending toys. I thought both of these were appropriate, and I can’t say that for every box I receive.

rescuebox-june-2016-trachea

Greek Yogurt Coconut Treats by Fruitables (7 oz) – Value $3.65

These are crunchy treats that are free of wheat, corn, and soy, plus they don’t have any artificial colors or preservatives. They are made and sourced in the US. They do have oats and barley, so I’ll have to pass them along, since Nyx can’t have grain. But I’m not disappointed – Nyx has unusually strict dietary requirements. These should be good for most dogs.

Trachea by Diggin’ Your Dog (1.6 oz) – Value $3.50

Nyx loves tracheas and has done OK with beef in the past. I will probably cut this into smaller pieces, though, so she doesn’t eat it all at once. Because she will NOT give it back, I know that already. Sneaky also seemed really interested in this (Sneaky can identify beef from a mile away, though…). These are coated in a liver sauce and then slow roasted. Tracheas are also a natural source of glucosamine and chondroitin, so they’re good for the joints!

rescuebox-june-2016-socks

Festival Dog Slipper Socks by The Animal Rescue Site – Value $9.95

It seems to be a theme with this box to get one animal-themed item for people each time. These are cute. I do wear novelty socks a lot, especially in winter, to keep my feet warm around the house. I wear size 7 shoes so most “one size” socks fit me just fine.

Nyx in action. I like how her ear is flying up.

Nyx when I tried to take the toy away from her. I swear she stuffed even more of it into her mouth.

Nyx decided to attack this one with almost surgical precision. That tiny hole on the back and out came the squeaker (which was no longer functional since she punctured it).

Verdict: I calculated a value of $35.08 for June’s Rescue Box. That is just shy of the promised $40 value, but it is somewhat above the cost of the box. I liked the mix of items and I thought the toys were size-appropriate and had above-average durability. This box is fairly new on my radar, at least, but I’ve been happy with it so far.

I love your reviews! I especially enjoy the pictures of your fur babies. As subs for pets go, this one seems to have a better value than most, and I love that they include a treat for Mommy! My Kitties call me Mommy. My only complaint is that when I get a jerky treat, I don’t want to know what part of the animal it is. ☹️
