The May/June info card gives tips on how to incorporate new skincare products into your routine. It also lists the included products in detail along with how-to-use instructions.
SNP Bird's Nest Sheet Mask - $3
These were featured in previous PinkSeoul Boxes. The Bird's Nest one is rich in nutrients while the Diamond one contains sodium hyaluronate, niacinamide, and diamond for hydrating and whitening properties. I love the SNP ampoule mask line for their perfect mask fit and soothing lightweight essence. Best of all, my face doesn't feel at all tacky afterwards! My only concern is that the heavy fragrance may be off-putting to some.
FYI, whitening in K-beauty terms typically means brightening or improving your skin tone or lightening dark spots. However, there are some cases in which the skincare product cosmetically whitens your skin. From my experience, it just kinda looks like you have a white cast from using sunscreen or finishing powder, or like you're using foundation two shades too light. The effects are temporary.
A'Pieu Pure Block Aqua Sun Gel - $14.95
This is a very lightweight SPF 50 sunscreen that is perfect for my face! The info card muses that "individuals with oily skin seem to dislike the heavy feeling of sun protection" and I definitely agree with that. This A'Pieu sunscreen absorbs easily, doesn't leave an oily film on top of the skin, and works well under everyday makeup. I don't notice any increase in oily sheen throughout the day either.
Skin&Lab Vitamin K Cream - $25
Vitamin K is a major component in making blood clots. I have no idea how it improves the skin moisture barrier but that's what the info card says! This is a white, lightweight cream and smells faintly herbal. I haven't seen any visible differences since using the cream but I like the non-sticky texture enough to keep using it.
Tonymoly Cat's Wink Compact - $15
This is a sebum and oil control powder compact that's shaped like a cat and has a light fragrance. I love mattifying powders for the summer. This one works well but leaves a white cast on my skin.
Skinfood Black Bean Eye Liner - $5
I'm not a fan of this eyeliner... It's pigmented but doesn't stay on my oily lids. It's great for sensitive eyes and doesn't bother my contacts, but oh boy does it migrate around my lids like a Slip N' Slide. Did I mention it likes to slide around my lids? It smudges easily and disappears in a few hours. Boo.
The Face Shop Gold Nail Stickers - $5
These are gold nail stickers with zigzag and line shapes that can spice up regular nails. I'll be using these on toenails since fingernail polish chips easily for me.
Holika Holika Cuticle Oil - $5
A cute bottle of cuticle oil. It's always nice to have cuticle oil around to take care of your nails!
Nature Republic Tinted CC Cream samples
CC cream stands for "color control" or "color correcting" cream. These have SPF 30 and provide light hydrating coverage. I believe there is only one available shade.
Heimish All Clean Balm deluxe sample - $2
This is a "first" or oil cleanser from a brand that's new to me-- Heimish. It starts as a solid white balm and smells very pleasant. When you scoop it out and warm it up with fingers, the balm turns into an oil. Finally when you add water after massaging the cleanser onto your skin, the oil turns into a milky liquid and washes off with no greasy residue. Most importantly, this dissolves makeup very well and I'm considering purchasing a full size when my sample runs out!
Verdict: The May/June PinkSeoul Box was great. I love that I got a little bit of everything-- makeup, nail products, skincare, face masks..! I also enjoyed trying all the items except for that Skinfood eyeliner. My favorite discovery is the lightweight A'Pieu sunscreen. Total value is about $78, which is almost twice the cost of subscription. If you're thinking of subscribing to multiple PinkSeoul boxes, it may be helpful to know that there are repeat products among the three subscriptions.
