Dog Owners Outdoor Gear: The Sticks “Woody” – Value $12.99

This is supposed to be a fetching stick, NOT a chew toy. You try telling that to Nyx. (She can’t fetch stuff anyway – she can’t be off leash because she’s immune suppressed, can’t get vaccinated due to health conditions, and has a tendency to tear ligaments in her knees due to genetics and her medications.) Within 30 seconds she had bitten off a piece of this and swallowed it. (It was a small piece and it will pass through.  But still.)

Exclusively Dog S’Mores Flavor Sandwich Cremes Dog Treats (8 oz) – Value $4.85

This is s’mores month for subscription boxes. I’ve gotten a s’mores flavor protein bar, a s’mores dog toy in Barkbox, a s’mores cat toy (review upcoming), and now these. Anyway, the first ingredient in these is wheat so I can’t give them to Nyx. They are also kind of high in sugar, but they are kosher.

Petkin To-Go Pak Pawwipes with Balm Protectant (20 wipes, orange scent) – Value $2

These are for cleaning your pet’s paws after coming indoors. They are supposed to help keep dirt and stuff from your carpet and also be soothing to your pet’s feet. Nyx does track a lot of dirt in the house so we will give them a try (it looks like there is a massive thunderstorm brewing at the moment so there will be lots of mud for her to walk through later…).

Powerbark Dog Food Bar (4 oz) – Value $4.39

These are vegetarian and wheat, corn, and soy free. They can be used interchangeably with regular dog food (they have pea protein and lots of fiber). These are probably OK for feeding smaller dogs (if you can break them up) but not really economical to feed a larger dog. Nyx, for example, if she could eat them, would need 6 bars a day based on her weight. A package of 12 bars is $48 though, so that would be $24 a day! (I already have to spend $14 a day on her prescription food and did not know there was a more expensive food option out there…) I think these would be best for travel for a couple of days at most.

Nyx had fun with this for all of one minute before we had to take it away…

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $24.23 for the June 2016 PetPack for dogs. That is almost $10 under the price of the box plus shipping. Although I appreciated the exposure to some new brands (including things that are readily available for re-purchase if your dog enjoys them), I thought the toy was a possible hazard and I was disappointed by the overall value. This box really needs a second toy or something to increase the value.

I love our PetPack. Barkbox may seem to have more unique toys, but that’s because they make them themselves. Plus barkbox’s toys are not good quality and are easily destroyed. They also use a lot of filler products like bully sticks, which aren’t good for pups anyway. They just make the box look fuller. PetPack at least has good, quality products.

I’d really love to sub to a pet box, unfortunately, none of them seem to have a great value. With 2 small furbabies at home, they’d love it. Mama likes subs who offer a great value though. If anyone knows of one that DOES offer a great value, regularly, please let me know! I do like looking at your pics of Nyx on these anyway! 🙂

I really like Pet Treater. My June box (first box) had a car seat cover (cheap quality, but fantastic since my other one needed warranty replacement, great timing!) that was waterproof. I’ve used one like it before and I got a year of almost daily use out of it before the waterproof backing started to go. That alone was pretty cool. I think their boxes have great value from what I’ve seen on here so I decided to sign up. I also got a free bed that was valued at around $30 from Precision Pet (from what I found on various internet sites). It was a nice bed, but too small for my large dog. Their customer service is pretty good too from my experience. You can still get the bed if you use the coupon code that’s on their homepage.

MSA also posted a spoiler for July, too.

I got 2 boxes of bark box and I really loved them (well my furchild did which made me love them). Their themes seem really well thought out! I don’t recommend petpack though. I got it with a groupon so I’m not too disappointed but their toys are not as unique as bark box and they don’t seem to meet the cost of the box for me
