Pet Treater is a subscription box for dogs. Select from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (21-50 pounds), and large (51+ pounds). This review is for a large dog box. My dog Nyx, a Rottweiler, is about 84 pounds right now.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This box included a letter addressed to Nyx!
And there were some cards with information on an animal rescue organization being spotlighted this month as well as this month’s theme.
Note: This is apparently the May box, since the theme is “Cinco de Mayo.” But, I received this on June 10. I think this is the latest Pet Treater has ever shipped.
There was also a Hello Fresh gift card inside. Again.
Silver Tails Senior Pet Products Hand-Held Massager – Value $10 (?)
I could only find this on eBay so the price listed above represents an average of the prices I saw. Nyx isn’t sure what to think about this just yet.
Boots & Barkley Rope Toy – Value $7.99 (?)
Boots & Barkley is only distributed by the Target Corporation. So I am guessing this is a closeout from Target. I can’t find it online. Nyx thought it was awesome, though, and it lasted a couple of minutes, which is pretty good for us.
Bandana – Value $3 (?)
You can get hundreds of these printed for pretty cheap. This one actually was long enough to go around Nyx’s neck but she was not having anything to do with that. She will tolerate her collar and an Adaptil collar and that is about all she can take.
Ganz Silicone Personality Potholder – Value $8.99
Pet Treater always includes an item “for your human.” These are usually pretty random. This month we got a silicone potholder. I thought it was supposed to be an alligator but apparently it is a frog. Below is another view…
Pawsitively Gourmet Taco Dog Treat (1 oz) – Value $1.99 (?)
This is cute and definitely fits the theme. You can only find wholesale prices for these so the value is a guess.
Your Pet Chef No Guilt Treats Fido Fiesta (1.75 oz) – Value $6.34
This company lets you choose your protein for treats, so it’s great for dogs with allergies. I didn’t see any choice called “Fido Fiesta” so I have quoted the price for custom treats above. These are dehydrated so they count as raw if you are into feeding your dog that way.
Precious Tails Dog Toy by Enchante Accessories – Value $4.99
Nyx hasn’t gotten to play with this yet since I only allow her to destroy one toy per day. But, she did look longingly at it from across the room. It is meant to be a tug toy so hopefully it will last longer than most toys.
Exclusively Dog Jerkeez Taco Flavor Chewy Dog Treats (7 oz) – Value $4.59
These have chicken as the number one ingredient and are made in the USA! They are also free of wheat, corn, and soy, which are common dog allergens. Unfortunately Nyx can’t have these because of her IBD (no chicken) so they will get passed on to a dog in my extended family to enjoy. This product is currently in production, so that’s also nice.
Nyx hard at work with the rope toy…
Verdict: I calculated a value of around $48 for the May Pet Treater dog subscription box. That’s a bit low for Pet Treater but still well over the cost of the box. And it may not be 100% accurate since I couldn’t find a lot of the items online. The treats do not expire for a long time after I received the box, so that’s an improvement for this subscription. Nyx liked the toys, too, so all-in-all, this was a solid month for us. I just wish it had shipped a little sooner.
What do you think of the May 2016 Pet Treater box? Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?
