Pet Treater is a subscription box for dogs. Select from small (up to 20 pounds), medium (21-50 pounds), and large (51+ pounds). This review is for a large dog box. My dog Nyx, a Rottweiler, is about 84 pounds right now.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This box included a letter addressed to Nyx!

pettreater-may-2016-cards2

And there were some cards with information on an animal rescue organization being spotlighted this month as well as this month’s theme.

Note: This is apparently the May box, since the theme is “Cinco de Mayo.” But, I received this on June 10. I think this is the latest Pet Treater has ever shipped.

There was also a Hello Fresh gift card inside. Again.

pettreater-may-2016-massager

Silver Tails Senior Pet Products Hand-Held Massager – Value $10 (?)

I could only find this on eBay so the price listed above represents an average of the prices I saw. Nyx isn’t sure what to think about this just yet.

Boots & Barkley Rope Toy – Value $7.99 (?)

Boots & Barkley is only distributed by the Target Corporation. So I am guessing this is a closeout from Target. I can’t find it online. Nyx thought it was awesome, though, and it lasted a couple of minutes, which is pretty good for us.

pettreater-may-2016-potholder1

Bandana – Value $3 (?)

You can get hundreds of these printed for pretty cheap. This one actually was long enough to go around Nyx’s neck but she was not having anything to do with that. She will tolerate her collar and an Adaptil collar and that is about all she can take.

Ganz Silicone Personality Potholder – Value $8.99

Pet Treater always includes an item “for your human.” These are usually pretty random. This month we got a silicone potholder. I thought it was supposed to be an alligator but apparently it is a frog. Below is another view…

pettreater-may-2016-taco

Pawsitively Gourmet Taco Dog Treat (1 oz) – Value $1.99 (?)

This is cute and definitely fits the theme. You can only find wholesale prices for these so the value is a guess.

Your Pet Chef No Guilt Treats Fido Fiesta (1.75 oz) – Value $6.34

This company lets you choose your protein for treats, so it’s great for dogs with allergies. I didn’t see any choice called “Fido Fiesta” so I have quoted the price for custom treats above. These are dehydrated so they count as raw if you are into feeding your dog that way.

pettreater-may-2016-toy

Precious Tails Dog Toy by Enchante Accessories – Value $4.99

Nyx hasn’t gotten to play with this yet since I only allow her to destroy one toy per day. But, she did look longingly at it from across the room. It is meant to be a tug toy so hopefully it will last longer than most toys.

Exclusively Dog Jerkeez Taco Flavor Chewy Dog Treats (7 oz) – Value $4.59

These have chicken as the number one ingredient and are made in the USA! They are also free of wheat, corn, and soy, which are common dog allergens. Unfortunately Nyx can’t have these because of her IBD (no chicken) so they will get passed on to a dog in my extended family to enjoy. This product is currently in production, so that’s also nice.

Nyx hard at work with the rope toy…

Verdict: I calculated a value of around $48 for the May Pet Treater dog subscription box.  That’s a bit low for Pet Treater but still well over the cost of the box. And it may not be 100% accurate since I couldn’t find a lot of the items online. The treats do not expire for a long time after I received the box, so that’s an improvement for this subscription. Nyx liked the toys, too, so all-in-all, this was a solid month for us.  I just wish it had shipped a little sooner.

My box will be here on the 17th. I ordered May 20 and it finally shipped on the 8th, but won’t be here until the 17th (eeks, Prime has spoiled me). So I guess I’m not sure if it’s going to be the May or June box.

Is there a way to find out which box I’m getting? I thought it was the May box, but now I’m confused.

I used the dog bed coupon code. I have a very tall 86lb lab mix. I’m a bit bummed about hearing that the large size is more for medium sizes dogs.

The bed I got was big enough for my Rottie. But that was last year and I’m not sure if they are sending out the same ones.

The only way to find out which box it is, is to look inside. If it is the May box, you will get a card like the one pictured above and Cinco de Mayo themed stuff. If it is the June box, it will likely be something else.

Prime has spoiled me as well…

I received the box today. It was the June box. I got the dog bed that was supposed to be a large. It’s the ‘Precision Pet 3000 SnooZZy Mod Chic Low Bumper Crate Mat, 31 by 21-Inch in Ocean Wave Aqua’. Perfect size for small breeds, but there’s no way it’d be too comfortable for most medium size breeds, let alone large breeds. My dog obviously doesn’t fit 🙁 I’ll see if my MIL wants it for her Pomeranian’s crate.

Nyx does product testing. It’s helpful to see the weak points of these toys. Especially if your dog’s are as tough on toys as mine.

But beyond that, you cannot be certain what this family chooses to do for animals, people or insects. They may give time, dollars, products, or nothing. It’s very short sided of you to presume otherwise from blog posts that are reviews of pet sub boxes.

I understand your feelings but I think you could have expressed them better here.

I got mine in late May, but then got my June one last week. Which messed us up, because I always send in a picture of my dogs so we get an extra item the following month, and because there was basically a week and a half between the receipt of shipments, I didn’t get my free item. But I emailed them when I emailed the June pic (which I was particularly proud of, btw – got my dog looking near the camera and sitting next to the box! Win for my household!) to say I hadn’t gotten a free item for the June box because of the issue I outlined above, and she emailed back the next day to say I’d get two free items in July!

Yeah same happened with our box we ordered it May 6 got it June 11th. They said they had issues with their supply vendor. I wish they would have sent out a mass email to all the people letting them know what was going on. And the pet bed we received (for large dogs) was definitely for medium size dogs.

We got a large bed way back when, but Nyx peed all over it…so we don’t have it any longer. (She has recurring UTIs due to her medications.)

I signed up for Pet Treater in April and received the May box, in mid May. I got the same box, and my dog loved the treats. She hasn’t really chewed on the toys yet, she got a different toy instead of the black dog toy you got. She got a bozo the clown chew toy, and I think she’s a little afraid of him lol. I wasn’t really impressed, I couldn’t find most of the items online and it was a guess to figure out how much things cost.

Pet Treater primarily provides closeout items, which is why it’s difficult to find them online. Some will be available at 13deals.com (also run by Jammin’ Butter, the folks behind Pet Treater and Peaches & Petals). I don’t mind this so much for toys, because Nyx doesn’t really care how old a toy is. It concerns me for treats although the expiration dates on the treats this month were well into the future.

I wonder why my box came so late? I really didn’t get it until June 10 — I wasn’t sure whether they had skipped a month or I had missed a shipment until I opened it and saw all the May stuff.

I emailed Pet Treater on 5/31/16 re not receiving the May box and they sent a reply back on 6/1/16. See below:

Hi there!

I was able to pull your account and see the order. All PetTreater boxes have been delayed due to a rescheduled resupply from our vendor for an item. It was due to the packaging of the treats so those items will arrive Tuesday the 31st. Once the package ships you’ll receive an email conformation along with updated tracking information.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and our shippers will be working promptly to get the boxes out as quickly as possible!

Again, thank you so much with your patience with us and we hope your pup is excited to receive their box soon!
Have a great day!

Best Wishes,
Joetta
