PawPack is a monthly subscription box for dogs or cats.  PawPack customizes your box to your dog’s size – my dog, Nyx, weighs 84 pounds.  This is a review of the “large” dog box.  PawPack focuses on eco-friendly, organic, and natural items for your pet.

PawPack sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The card this month talked about this month’s charity effort and the back had a list of products from the box.

Pig Ear – Value $2.50 (?)

The information card says this is all natural and made in the USA.  The value is a guess based on similar items since there was no label or packaging.

Rogz Asteroidz (small) – Value $7.95

This might or might not be a good toy.  It is completely inappropriate for a dog Nyx’s size or inclusion in a box for large dogs.  It is barely bigger than a golf ball.  Nyx did not get to play with this because I was afraid she’d swallow it whole.

Nite Ize Innovation Petlit – Value $3.99

This is a good idea – a light that attaches to the D-ring of your dog’s collar so drivers can see your dog when you’re walking at night.  I can’t actually walk Nyx (she is sloooooooowly recovering from torn ligaments in both knees and can’t have surgery to speed the process due to her IBD medications) so I will pass it on to my parents since one of their dogs is black.

Spunky Pup Alien Flex – Value $8.99

This is the second alien flex toy we’ve gotten in under a week (though this one is a different design).  Nyx loves them, though they are not able to stand up to heavy chewers and they are at the lower limit of what I’d consider size appropriate for a large breed dog.

pawpack-may-2016-treats

Grandma Lucy’s Freeze-Dried Ocean Whitefish (2.5 oz) – Value $12.34

I love it when we get single-ingredient treats.  This is freeze dried fish and the ingredients are made and sourced in the US.  The kitties are probably getting this due to Nyx’s dietary restrictions, but that’s OK.  This brand has a bunch of products with odd protein sources including a goat-based dog food which I will definitely ask my vet about (Nyx can’t have chicken, pork, turkey, duck, and most other common pet food proteins, but she has never encountered goat so that one may not generate an IBD-related immune response).

Gogo Pet Products All Natural 6” Bully Stick – Value $2 (?)

Although beef is generally considered problematic for IBD dogs, Nyx has tolerated it in the past.  We have a few other treats to get through first (I introduce new things super slowly and one at a time) but she will probably eventually get to chew on this for at least a few minutes.  (She will be thrilled.)

“Please don’t take it away!”

pawpack-may-2016-nyx2

“You’re really going to take it away, aren’t you?”

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $38 for the May PawPack box.  That is pretty close to the cost of the box and may be worth it for you if you are mostly interested in natural, organic, or eco-friendly pet items.  I am happy to have discovered the Grandma Lucy’s brand.  I am disappointed that the toys are really not size-appropriate for a large breed dog, however.  (I have had this problem with PawPack in the past.)  This may be a better subscription for people with smaller dogs.

My dog received the exact same items as Nyx and she is a 12 lb dachshund. The little ball is perfect for her but she doesn’t have any interest in the big-for-her squeaky toy.

Very disappointing that every dog regardless of size received the same items.

I will not renew my subscription.

I find it odd they sent the Alien Flex Bubu toy in a large breed selection, because I bought that same toy for my 12 pound chihuahua (he’s the tallest chihuahua I’ve ever seen), and that was a medium sized toy for him, he likes toys that are MUCH larger, much better. Anyways, the tag boasts how durable it is, and the only thing that kept Rico from completely destroying it and ripping it into tiny pieces, was the fact that, for whatever reason, he became obsessed with it! He brought it EVERYWHERE, he cuddled with it in his sleep, and would put up a fight when I wanted him to drop it before leaving the house with me. A few months later he was at his friends house for a puppy play date, and got very excited and ripped half of the aliens face off.
After we got home he still brought it everywhere as he did before but now he left a trail of stuffing. So i sewed it back together and he can’t tell the difference.

I guess my point was that it was a very small toy for a large breed box, and that it’s not a very strong toy; my dog just had a weird attachment with it which spared it’s life for a long time, once he started to destroy the toy, it was only a matter of minutes.

I had problems with this box not sending size-appropriate toys as well. Their attitude is that you get what you get so I ended up cancelling.

Cute pics as always!
That dog light is a really good idea, surprised I haven’t seen anything like it already.
