Our Subscription Box Favorites for May!
We’re starting a new monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite items from the past month:
The Item: 2012 Jeff Hill Pinot Noir
The Cost: $30
Why I love it: Pinot Noir is one of my favorite varietal wines, and this bottle was outstanding. It had lots of berry and plum flavors with a solid earthiness that balanced out the fruit. I served it with homemade eggplant pizza, and it was a match made in heaven.
The Cost: $18
From: Crafted Taste
Why I love it: This is an edible fragrance that can be used to add sensory depth to cocktails. (Cocktail cologne!) I had no idea products like this existed, but I think it’s such a cool idea and I couldn’t wait to try it!
The spray has a true citrus aroma with light floral notes. I used it to finish Crafted Taste’s signature May cocktail- the Citrus Blossom Sour. The cocktail was delicious, and I loved the pop of citrus fragrance this spray added to the drink!
The Item: Radish Microgreens
The Cost: GardenBox costs $35 per month for two 5” x 20” gardens that are pre-planted with seasonal micro green or micro herb seeds that you grow at home on your windowsill.
Why I love it: GardenBox is a subscription that sends pre-seeded micro greens kits, growing instructions, and recipes for the greens you receive. As a novice gardener, I love that the greens are pre-planted, easy to care for, and ready for harvest in about a week.
The greens grow so fast that it’s fun to check on their progress every morning, and it’s really rewarding to watch them grow. I also loved cooking with them- they’re beautiful, delicious, and healthy. The radish greens had a crisp, slightly bitter radish-y taste that reminded me a little of arugula. I used them in a salad with watermelon, pine nuts, parmesan, and honey vinaigrette.
The Cost: $9.95
Why I love it: This is a bathroom game changer! I really love this spray and I see why it gets rave reviews. It works exactly like it says and I don’t know how we ever lived without it. You want this in your life!
The Cost: $5.97
Why I love it: This moisturizing balm is great on the kiddos. It’s not slippery or slimy and provides a sunscreen without the white cast effect many sunscreens we’ve used in the past. A little bit goes a long way, this full sized jar will last us all summer!
The Cost: $18.00
From: Onyx Box
Why I love it: Massage this onto your face to lift makeup and dirt in a flash. The worst part about makeup is cleaning it all off. I love using cleansing balms like this one to get it all off quickly. I’m so glad I received this in our Onyx box. I didn’t have a back up for the one I’ve nearly used up.
The Cost: $119
From: Cate & Chloe
Why I love it: Every picture that has been taken of me in the past month in which I’m wearing these earrings has been super flattering. Therefore, these earrings must be magic.
The Item: Mountainsmith Day Pack
The Cost: $69.95
Why I love it: This is probably the nicest day pack I’ve had for hiking, and it’s awesome. Plus the reservoir they sent in this same box fits nicely!
The Cost: $31.39
Why I love it: It’s just really, really pretty, and whimsical, and dreamy, and it has a lovely tone.
The Item: “Flower Crown” by Weaving Daisies
The Cost: $15
From: Tail Mail
Why I love it: Despite having mermaid hair for most of my life, I’ve never had a flower crown. Now I have one.
The Item: Pawbreakers Catnip Ball
The Cost: $5
Why I Love It: It’s rare for cat toys to get Mr. Kitty too excited. He is such a stick in the mud around the house most of the time that I am happy whenever he ventures out of the master bathroom (where we keep several cat beds).
The Item: PetGiftBox T-Shirt
The Cost: $10
Why I Love It: So this is basically a promotional t-shirt in a too-large size for me. But it is SO SOFT. Like the softest t-shirt I own, by far. I wear this one all the time for sleeping, lounging around the house, etc. (Also, I rarely – if ever – get shirts in subscription boxes, so I still get excited about them.)
The Item: Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream
The Cost: $6.41
Why I Love It: All right, I had several relatively inexpensive items up above so I figured I’d go for a high-value one. I really think, after using this whole sample up, that I have better skin elasticity (I’ve lost a lot of weight this year so I was worried about sagging skin). It’s moisturizing and non-irritating, and if I could find it for less than $95 somewhere I would totally get more!
The Cost: $8.99
Why I Love It: I’m thrilled to have this – I love, love Eric Carle and his art style!
Here’s a look inside the Eric Carle book. I love it. LitJoy put a #favoritepagefriday sticky note on the unicorn page because it’s also a “fantasy primer.”
The Cost: value: $9.95
From: Ecocentric Mom Mystery Mom & Baby Box (Coupon: Use code WELCOME to save 10% off any shop purchase including Mystery boxes OR use code ECOSUMMER to save $5 off any subscription (mystery boxes excluded))
Why I Love It: I am loving this discovery in the recent Ecocentric Mom Mystery Mom & Baby box, which is different than their monthly boxes (though I received one of these in my April Ecocentric Mom Mom & Baby box, too). This is basically an illuminating balm stick. It’s a subtle sheer/clear color with shimmer that you can use to highlight your face, body, or use as a lip balm! I like that it’s so subtle because I can keep it my bag and swipe it on without a mirror and blend with my fingers real quick.
The Cost: $34.99 (on sale for $20!)
From: Bluum (Coupon: For a limited time only, save 30% off of any length Bluum subscription. Just use this link to create your account and the deal should auto apply, if not use coupon code Share30 to get the deal! OR Use coupon code GETBLUUM to save $10 off your first box)
Why I Love It: This is a great teething necklace! I love the little red hearts. It’s made of food-grade, BPA-free, and non-toxic silicone. There’s a knot between each bead so if something happens, all the beads don’t come off at once. The clasp pops apart if the baby pulls too hard, so the necklace doesn’t break. I have a couple other teething necklaces and I’m thrilled that this one is made with doubled-up ribbon! It feels so strong and well-made. Also, you can wash this on the top rack of the dishwasher!
The Item: Gold Bulldog Clips by Made of Tomorrow
The Cost: $4.00
From: Moustache Stationery
Why I love it: I’ve recently started working from home and I am realizing that it is the little things that make a big difference. Today I’ve opened my windows instead of turning on lights, and I’m trying to reach out to friends to interact at points throughout the day, because it gets dreary and lonely at times (but it definitely has its perks too!). With that said, I understand why the stationery industry is booming as of late, with more people working from home than ever – having pretty desk supplies makes the biggest difference throughout the day. I love these little clips and I think I might buy more!
The Item: Spoonable – Flowery Lavender Caramel
The Cost: $9.00
Why I love it: I made a lavender iced coffee, with this caramel drizzled on top – it was an excellent decision, and absolutely delicious! I think this would also be great on my favorite buttermilk berry cake – I usually make some lavender infused whipped cream to go on top, and this would be a nice, decadent extra!
The Cost: $10.95
Why I love it: Oh man, this stuff is good. It is a super smooth, flavorful salsa that just ticks all the boxes for a good salsa. I really don’t know why it is so good, but it is definitely the best jarred salsa I’ve tried. It is slightly nutty, with a teeny bit of heat. I love it.
Nancy S’ Favorites:
The Item: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Transmutation Rug
The Cost: Exclusive item – $20?
Why I love it: What’s not to love about this awesome circular rug? The design is vibrant and the rug is high quality. I’m always a fan of functional geeky items and this certainly fits all my specifications. I also like Fullmetal Alchemist, there’s that too.
The Cost: $14.99
Why I love it: I expect moisturizers to feel a little tacky after application– that’s how they seal in the moisture after all. This bamboo soothing gel, though, does not feel sticky at all. In fact, it makes my skin feel soft and velvety as if I patted myself with baby powder. This watery gel isn’t a moisture bomb but I think it’s perfect for summer for a quick hydration boost. It’s also great for my face to nullify some of the stickiness that comes with night creams.
The Item: J.One Jelly Pack
The Cost: $42 (on sale for $40)
Why I love it: This thick serum is supposed to be a do-it-all item that hydrates and nourishes your skin and pump it with all sorts of anti-aging ingredients. I couldn’t verify much of those claims, but it’s now one of my favorite skincare products for its magical ability to smooth out my pores. I love it as a makeup primer. It is hydrating without being sticky, dries down to a matte finish, and makes applying makeup feel like I’m painting on a canvas. By canvas I mean my soft, supple face.
The Item: Paper Denim & Cloth Jogger Pants
The Cost: $46
Why I love it: These pants fit my son so well and he absolutely loves them. Stylish and comfortable this was a great pick from our spring Kidbox.
The Item: Baudelaire’s Sisal Wash Cloth
The Cost: $7.50
Why I love it: This washcloth feels great in the shower. I feel like it saves me the step of exfoliating because I can lather and exfoliate at once.
The Item: Tegu Magnetic Blocks with Pouch
The Cost: $27.29
Why I love it: Both of kids have been getting a lot of creative building time with these Tegu blocks. This a toy they go back to again and again unlike some toys where the excitement quickly wears off and the toy just sits.
The Item: Girls Can! Crate Dream Birds Activity
The Cost: $29.95 for the box
Why I love it: First of all, this box is amazing and I love everything about it! However, this activity in particular has garnished so many compliments. We hung the mobile in the upstairs hallway and everyone stops to say how much they like it. I hope we’ve helped many other people to subscribe to Girls Can! Crate because this box is worth every penny.
The Item: Mamma Chia Blackberry Bliss Chia Squeeze
The Cost: $2.00
Why I love it: My entire family has come to love these. They taste great and they are super easy to grab for an on-the-go snack!
The Item: Zen Lemon Oil
The Cost: $12.99
From: Zen Box (Coupon: Use code 20ZENIMMUNE to save 20% off any subscription for life + a bottle of Zen Immune Boost Essential Oil Blend at sign-up! (Zen Immune Boost is for both topical and inhalation, and includes essential oils to strengthen and support the immune system.)
Why I love it: This oil has so many uses! This month I’ve used it in cleaning products, as an air freshener and as a bug repellent.
Nancy M’s Favorites:
The Item: Home Made Luxe Marbled Ring Dish
The Cost: $39.99 for the box
Why I love it: I had a great time doing this project and the finished products look chic & gorgeous! I really liked how this project was easy and didn’t take much time to create. I enjoyed it so much that I plan on buying different color clays to make a few more dishes/coasters for my house. The dishes look amazing holding my jewels on my dresser at home!
The Item: Irish Turf/Peat Incense Ceramic Set
The Cost: €28.00 (approximately $31.31 USD)
Why I love it: The cottage is adorable and the product is so unique! I’ve never heard of Irish turf before so not only did I discover a cool find, but I also learned a bit of Irish history regarding the product. It’s also a bonus that it’s from Ireland! 🙂
The Item: Wonderland Necklace
The Cost: $38.00
From: The Trendy Box
Why I love it: The colors work beautifully together so what’s not to love? I’m a fan of statement necklaces and the turquoise is perfect for the summer! I’ve already worn this necklace several times since receiving it and have gotten loads of compliments. This has been my favorite item from The Trendy Box so far.
The Item: Eyes by ToGo Spa in Ice Water
The Cost: $12.50 1-pack (3 eye gel treatments)
Why I love it: I’m a spa gal and this product fueled my addiction. I love how easy they applied under my eye (best to lay down on your back as to not slip off if you are being active plus a great time to relax and energize your eyes) and my eye area felt refreshed, bright, and youthful. I put the gel pads in the fridge before applying as they suggested and the cool sensation was a nice touch.
The Item: Soapgirl Grapefruit + Sea Salt
The Cost: $7.00
Why I love it: This soap has a nice lather and I love how it has held its shape in the numerous showers I have taken. I don’t like when you are using a bar soap and it slowly disintegrates after many uses. So far, this bar of soap has held its structure.
The Cost: $10.00
From: Singles Swag
Why I love it: I love this thick and creamy body butter that’s moisturizing and has a rich scent that lingers. As you can see by the photos above, I have been enjoying these products this month!
The Item: Avengers Mini Wacky Wobblers
The Cost: $20.20 on Amazon
Why I Love It: This was the first time receiving a set of mini bobbleheads in a box for me. Also – it’s the Avengers, so I loved it.
The Item: Iron Man Hero Remix Bobblehead
The Cost: $34.99
From: Fandora’s Box (no longer in business)
Why I Love It: This is the second item I’ve received from Hero Remix – and I’m loving their stuff. The finish and paint job on Iron Man is just fantastic.
The Item:Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) POP
The Cost: $8.33 on Amazon
Why I Love It: I had gifted this exact POP two years ago and have been waiting for it to come back around in a subscription box – and here it is! This is one of my favorite POPs – such a classic.
The Item: Pocket POP 3-Pack
The Cost: $17.15 on Amazon
Why I Love It: This might be my favorite item from a Horror Block – ever. I also didn’t know that you could get Pocket POPs without the keychain attached to their heads. Anyways, I’m a big Freddy and Jason fan, so this was an easy pick this month.
The Item: Welcome to Asgard Shirt
The Cost: $15?
Why I Love It: I love the artwork on this shirt. Couple that with the fact that it’s Marvel and it’s a big win.
The Item: Falcon Funko POP
The Cost: $17 on POP Price Guide
Why I Love It: I love the POPs that are in action/off the ground. I also love the Falcon character – so excited to get this for my collection.
The Item: Rick Shirt
The Cost: $10-15?
Why I Love It: Anything Rick and Morty related makes this list by default.
The Item: Hulk Q-Fig
The Cost: $15-20?
Why I Love It: I bought all the Q-figs that were available after receiving this Hulk. This was the third Q-Fig into my collection and it sealed the deal for me – these little vinyls are awesome!
The Item: Boba Fett Liftoff POP
The Cost: $20-25
From: Smuggler’s Bounty
Why I Love It: See above about POPs in action – add the fact that it’s BOBA FETT!!
The Cost: $15.99
Why I Love It: Coffee + Infinity Gauntlet. That is all.
The Cost: $22
Why I Love It: This was my first time trying bareMinerals skincare products, and I’m hooked! I love how gentle this creamy cleanser is, and the light citrus scent is great, too.
The Item: Spongelle Spongology Body Buffer
The Cost: $20
Why I Love it: My husband Eric and I both became addicted to this body buffer! It’s already time to buy more! At first, I thought the sponge was a little on the rough side, but it has been great for my legs especially now that I need to start applying self-tanner for the summer.
The Item: Sarah Welch Pottery Stoneware Travel Mug
The Cost: $34
Why I Love It: This is the most amazing travel mug I’ve ever seen! It’s glazed, and dishwasher and microwave safe, and it just makes my morning routine that much better!
