MITTEN CRATE MAY 2016 - items 1

Vitaperk 15 Vitamins and Minerals for your coffee – 3 packets, value: $2.15 total

These packets are like fortified dry creamer for your coffee (though you can also put it in ice coffee, hot cocoa or smoothies). All are naturally flavored and only 5 calories. I like them, but I still use my regular cream and sugar, too. And I have coffee everyday so it makes it easy for me to get a little extra help.

Mitten Munch Trail Bar in Berry Lemonade – value: $2

Mitten Munch Trail Bar in Mocha Choco-Latte – value: $2

These trail bars are either high-quality snacks or meal replacements. The Mocha Choco-Latte is my favorite between the two, and it has 6g of protein, 5g of fiber and only 11g of sugar.  I like these – they make great on-the go snacks for me!

MITTEN CRATE MAY 2016 - items 2

Aunt Nee’s Mild Salsa Mix – .5 oz, value: $1.79

Aunt Nee’s Guacamole Mix – .7 oz $1.79

These are great ideas! They’re mixes to make salsa and guacamole simple, fast, and easy! It’s a great idea but I actually already have both salsa and guacamole recipes I always make and my family loves. These will get passed on or swapped!

MITTEN CRATE MAY 2016 - items 3

Bella Rouge Barbeque Chipotle Gourmet BBQ Sauce – 16 fl oz, value: $7.99

I think this is a great and versatile BBQ sauce… I tried it and it’s hot and tangy and delicious. They recommend using this traditionally, or mixing it with sour cream for tacos, as a topping on eggs, or making a compound butter for corn! Sounds like it’ll be great for summer.

FireSide Coffee Co. French Vanilla Café Mocha – 8 oz, value: $7.99

This French vanilla drink mix is supposed to capture all the custardy, vanilla deliciousness that is supposed to be what the French way of making ice cream (hence the term, “French Vanilla”) is all about. I haven’t tired this yet but it sounds delicious.

Verdict: As a Michigander, I’m really proud to say that I’m very happy with the curation of this box! I love seeing my home state represented well, and I liked everything in this box. The value comes out to about $25.71, which isn’t awesome for a $35 box, however I am really happy to try everything and think I’ll buy some more of the trail bars. Also, some other reviews I found online look like the value is generally higher, so I’m looking forward to seeing future boxes.

What do you think of Mitten Crate? Have you tried any locally-sourced boxes before?

  1. The fireside coffe is great for those that like an occasional cup of coffee like on rainy or cold days. I don’t have to worry about keeping a coffeemaker out on the counter taking up space but can have a quick cup whenever I want – only have to add a mug and hot water.

  2. I’m a Michigander (westsider now) and have never heard of any of these companies! Might have to check it out. I love supporting the local companies!
