Mishibox-June-2016-Info

Each month's box comes with an info card and how-to instructions.

Mishibox-June-2016-1

Skylake Oriental Herb Cool Shampoo - $4.99

This is an herbal shampoo that contains a variety of oriental herbs with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also claims to stimulate hair growth, prevent dandruff, and prevent itchiness. It smells like a refreshing mint and herb concoction; I like it. The photo doesn't show it very well but there is a piece of wilfordi root in the container. I'm surprised how expensive this mini shampoo sample though.

Skylake Silk Cocoon Hair Conditioner - $4.99

The conditioner smells pleasantly earthy. It leaves my hair soft and untangled but the sample is not enough to gauge long-term benefits. I'm baffled that this 25ml tube costs $5.

CosRx Acne Pimple Master Patch - $5

I actually own a stash of this and recommend this to all my friends. I'm excited to get another one! This is a sheet of 24 hydrocolloid patches designed to suck out pimple gunk. I like to put them on an active pimple at night and pull it off in the morning. If it's successful you'll see that the patch has absorbed yucky white stuff and your pimple has mitigated. They're transparent so you can also wear them out during the day if you're bold (or desperate) enough.

Proud Mary Ampoule Mask - $2.99

Subscribers receive one of four variations. I got the EGF one, which moisturizes, nourishes, and improves skin elasticity. The mask smells nice and contains plenty of gel essence. The fit is fine as well. Unfortunately it leaves my skin quite sticky.

Mishibox-June-2016-3

Saint Peau Eco-Friendly Snail Essence - $17.99

Subscribers receive either the Baobab Water Storage Eco Serum of this Eco-Friendly Snail Essence. It's formulated with snail secretion filtrate to hydrate skin without stickiness. The pump is stiff so I don't have a lot of volume control; I either get nothing or a big pump of essence. The essence is a watery gel consistency and has the smell of generic sheet masks, which is a strong floral fragrance. Despite the info card claiming otherwise, the essence leaves my face feeling sticky. Even applying essence sparingly doesn't help. I like the lightweight hydration in theory, but the stickiness will keep me from using it often.

Urban Dollkiss Soft Lip Balm - $7.99

Subscribers receive one of three types. I got the apple one! The apple balm contains apple extract and vitamins A, C, and E. It's not a very tinted product but does give my lips a plump, moisturized sheen. I'm pleased with this and just wish it comes in a tube form!

Verdict: The curation from Mishibox this month was nice. I was introduced to so many new products and enjoyed the Skylake shampoo and conditioner samples. I didn't love the Saint Peau Snail Essence, but if I did this month would have been a hit. Sadly much of the value was in that one product so I'm only iffy about the box as a whole. Total retail value is about $44, which is about twice the cost of subscription. Despite the big ticket item "miss" I would still recommend this subscription as a nice introduction to Korean beauty products.

Zulema

Does anyone know if Korean Beauty products are cruelty free?

Hi Zulema! Like other brands it depends on the company. There are some web articles out there that list which companies are cruelty free. I know that one of the largest companies– Amorepacific– which owns brands like Laneige, Etude House, & Innisfree does not do animal testing. But ultimately you’ll have to do some research 🙂 hope that helps a little.

Was going to order the pimple patches and was very pleasantly surprised to get them in this month’s box. I’m eager to see if they’ll work for me – Well, maybe eager isn’t the word, but you know… 🙂

I got the Vita C mask, peach lip balm and the snail essence, which I’m a little nervous to try. I’ve used one other item with snail secretion but I’m still new to the game. Been using (& enjoying) the snail repair sunscreen sent last month, but I don’t know how ready I am to spread snail rich essence all over my face. (BTW, thanks for the heads up on the texture.) The shampoo with that piece of root gave me cause for concern too! I spent about 10 mins trying to make it move around in bottle. LOL

This was only my 3rd Mishibox, but I’m enjoying the heck out of this sub! So far, on average, I’m discovering one product per box that I’ve liked enough to repurchase.

This sub is on my short list of keepers for sure!

Great review Nancy!

Those pimple patches are the best! I only use them when I have one of those painful, red zits and it can take 2 treatments to get those cleared up, but so much quicker than trying to let it heal on its own!
