CraftedTaste-June-2016-AlcoholBox

This month, I received both the alcohol box and the mixers box from Crafted Taste on the same day.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-AlcoholUnpacked

This month’s featured alcohol is root liquor. I’ve never even heard of root liquor before, but it’s essentially root beer-flavored alcohol!

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Packet

Accompanying the shipment of mixers was a plastic packet that included a brochure, recipes, paper napkins, and straws.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Brochure

The brochure provided some background information about this month’s cocktail.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-BrochureInside

It also included a list of this month’s products and some general bartending tips.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Recipes

The featured cocktail recipe this month is Thai Spiced Ginger Beer, but Crafted Taste also sent recipes for a Spiked Root Beer Float, Root Julep, and Rootini— as well as several others.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Napkins

The colorful straws and napkins are a nice touch!

CraftedTaste-June-2016-GingerBeer

Q Ginger Beer- $8.24 (for three 9 oz. bottles)

I’m a big fan of Q’s tonic water, so I was excited to see that this box features their ginger beer. It’s made without corn syrup or sugar, and it has a strong ginger bite without the syrupy sweetness other ginger beers sometimes have.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Syrup

Hudson & Lee Honey Simple Syrup (8 oz.)- $12.95

Hudson & Lee is an all-natural company that uses organic ingredients in their products. This honey syrup is made without sugar, and it can be used to add honey flavor to drinks or in place of simple syrup in traditional cocktails such as margaritas, sangria, mojitos, and mint juleps.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Bitters

The Bitter End Jamaican Jerk Bitters (2 oz.)- $18.99

I’ve tried a lot of different bitters thanks to cocktail subscriptions, but I think this is the most unusual flavor I’ve seen yet! These bitters can be used to add depth and spice to cocktails. (There’s actually a warning on the package to use these sparingly because they’re so spicy!)

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Tea

Rishi Mystic Mint Teaser (.35 oz.)- $2

Mystic Mint is a “caffeine-free blend of soothing peppermint and aromatic green cardamom [that] has a naturally sweet finish and smooth body.”

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Tea2

The ingredients include “organic peppermint, organic cardamom, organic licorice root, essential basil and clove leaf oils.”

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Ball

Stainless Steel Tea Ball Infuser- $1.49

Crafted Taste included a tea ball infuser to use with the loose leaf tea. I have plenty of tea infusers, but I think this is a thoughtful addition to the box.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-RootLiquor1

Art in the Age Root Liquor (750 ml.)- $35

Root Liquor is a new discovery for me, but it’s definitely a welcome one— I’ve always been a big fan of root beer!

CraftedTaste-June-2016-RootLiquor2

I love the design on the back of the bottle. It’s such a fun and colorful way to outline the spices and aromatics used to create the liquor’s unique flavor!

Thai Spiced Ginger Beer

CraftedTaste-June-2016-CocktailRecipe

This month’s featured cocktail is Thai Spiced Ginger Beer. It utilizes all of the items I was sent this month: Root Liquor, Honey Syrup, Jamaican Jerk Bitters, Mint Tea, and Ginger Beer.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-IceCubes

As recommended by Crafted Taste, I made lemon-zest ice cubes to use in the drink.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Cocktail1

I combined all of the ingredients for this cocktail and stirred them with the lemon ice cubes. The recipe called for a Thai basil garnish. I didn’t have any on hand, so I used regular basil instead.

CraftedTaste-June-2016-Cocktail2

This drink was very interesting. The bitters and ginger beer were both very spicy, so this drink packed a potent punch! Surprisingly, though, it was also extremely refreshing. I think this would be a great drink to sip on while lounging by the pool!

Verdict: I really enjoyed this box from Crafted Taste! The featured cocktail was super creative— definitely not something I would think to mix up on my own. I love discovering new cocktail recipes, and I appreciate that all of the ingredients Crafted Taste sends are interesting and gourmet. They're also great at including thoughtful, small extras. The tea ball, paper napkins, and straws are all low-value items, but they really do enhance the cocktail making experience. In terms of value, the items I was sent total approximately $79. That’s lower than last month’s value ($90), and falls short of the subscription cost. Since this subscription arrives in two shipments every month, it is important to note that shipping costs are probably very high. Still, it would be nice to see the value improve. Even though this isn’t a high-value subscription, I can’t help but love the incredible curation. It’s a delightful indulgence!

I probably won’t get this sub because I am the opposite of a bartender, lol, but I read this anyway because I always enjoy your reviews, Lindsey. They’re always well written with great photos and demonstrations. Keep up the great work! 🙂
