CAUSEBOX by Sevenly is a quarterly subscription box that features brands and items dedicated to doing good all over the world. Many featured brands donate a portion of proceeds to charities and/or may employ local artisans, use ethically-sourced goods, etc. They also donate $7 per box sold to charity.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box came with this full-color brochure featuring more information about the items and brands included in the box. Their previous information card was good, but I think this is even better!
Go Macro Everlasting Joy Bar (2.3 oz) – Value $2.89
This has coconut, almond butter, and chocolate chips, so it is kind of like a healthier version of Almond Joy (it also has pea protein and brown rice protein). I was not fooled into thinking I was eating a real candy bar, but this is not bad for a nutrition bar. A portion of the proceeds for this bar help feed the homeless.
Juice Beauty Organic Lip Moisturizer (0.5 fl oz) – Value $15
So I know I complain a lot when a subscription box includes lip balm. But, this is a step up from lip balm. And it couldn’t have come at a better time – I am about to run out of Malin + Goetz mojito lip balm and I need a replacement. This will do nicely.
Branded Collective Brass Mini Cuff – Value $20
Branded Collective employs survivors of human trafficking in conjunction with local artisans in and around Nashville to make their pieces. (Human trafficking is still quite a large problem in the United States!) Each cuff is stamped with a unique number and you can learn more about the people who stamped them on the Branded Collective website (click on the bracelet name to get there). I have super tiny wrists so this is quite large for me, but I am pretty sure I can squeeze it to make it a bit smaller. I will totally wear this; I wear most jewelry (except earrings) in any metal finish and this would look good in a stack with other bracelets.
Here is a look at the bracelet on so you can actually see the stamp.
Rise and Shine Print – Value $5 (?)
This is an exclusive print for Causebox subscribers and is supposed to be inspired by Palm Springs. I’ve never been there so I can’t say much about the connection. These prints are meant to go in the frame from the Spring Causebox.
Here’s a shot of the print in the frame. If you subscribe now, you won’t get the frame, but there are a lot of similar-looking frames on Amazon for under $20.
Love for Humanity Organics Hydrating Facial Scrub with Argan and Coconut (2 oz) – Value $10 (?)
I can’t actually find this product for sale online so the value is a total guess. This is a 2 ounce container so I am assuming it is not full size. The Love for Humanity website seems to be down right now. This is all too bad because this is a really nice product. I use scrubs daily and this one is really dense and actually low on the oil (though it smells wonderful!). If you like your scrubs not to be super harsh, you could always mix this with some cleanser, but I have been using it straight.
Esperos Summer Tote – Value $54.99
This was one of the spoiler items for the month. It seems like a sturdy tote and these are nice, fun summer colors. (There are no pockets inside, for what it’s worth.) Every tote sold helps fund education for children in the developing world.
The Smile Life Exclusive Towel – Value $29
I like how the colors here coordinate with the tote. Some MSA readers said this had a smell right out of the box, but I didn’t notice this so much. (Granted, my sinuses are clogged half the time because I’m allergic to cats…) We will probably use this as a regular bath towel because a lot of our towels are in pretty poor shape and need to be replaced.
Tribute Video Voucher – Value $25
This is good for the full value of the basic Tribute service (self-edited). Basically you invite people to make videos in celebration of a birthday, wedding, graduation, or some other significant life event, and then upload them to the Tribute site and create a montage. I am unlikely to actually use this voucher because I could do this for free in iMovie, but I suppose it is a different sort of gift for a person who has everything. And I am including the value in the total value of the box since you could technically get a complete package with the voucher code.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $161.88 for the Summer 2016 CAUSEBOX. That is about three times the cost of the subscription, which is great (though I had to estimate some prices). I think the items can be used by a wide variety of people – there’s nothing skin-tone or hair-texture specific in here – and I like that there are several higher-value items instead of just one “hero” item, so if something doesn’t happen to work for you, the box still has a good value! I will get a lot of use out of everything except perhaps the video voucher, so this box is a win for me.
