Included was an information card detailing the products in the box. There was also some product literature.

bulubox-june-2016-gum

Xylichew Black Licorice Gum (12 pieces) – Value $2.60

I have not had to buy gum for months because I keep getting Xylichew in subscription boxes. I like it since I prefer not to chew gum with sugar (this has xylitol from birch in it). But, I think black licorice is not my favorite flavor. It tastes just like a black gumdrop at first but then the sweetness of the outer shell wears away.

Herbal Zap! Digestive Cool and Calm (0.14 oz) – Value $0.80

This has a mix of Ayurvedic herbs that are supposed to help fight off sickness and feeling run-down. I am saving this for sometime when I feel a cold coming on because then I can really say whether or not it helps. That may not be for a few months.

bulubox-june-2016-food

Pure Growth Organic White Cheddar Popcorn (0.6 oz) – Value $1.08

Popcorn is a good snack – filling and high in fiber, but low in calories. I thought this was all right although there were a lot of tiny pieces at the bottom of the bag. I think I am slightly more of a fan of this white cheddar flavor than of the sea salt version that came in the Weight Loss Bulu Box.

Fitmiss Delight Women’s Complete Protein Shake in Vanilla Chai (0.87 oz) – Value $1.33

I like to use protein powder in my morning smoothies so this was appreciated. This brand is new to me and it has a lot of vegetable and fruit powders and extracts, which is a little different. It also makes me sad, because I broke my stick blender this morning, so no more smoothies until I can get to Bed Bath & Beyond (I have gift cards…).

bulubox-june-2016-vitamins

Volo Vitamins Energy Berry Flavor (0.19 oz) – Value $0.99

Volo Vitamins Energy Citrus Flavor (0.14 oz) – Value $0.99

Sorry, I think one of these guys didn’t make it into my photo of all the box items up above. These have only 5 calories per packet and are high in B vitamins as well as vitamin C, plus a lot of fruit-based ingredients as well as some more traditional “energy” sorts of compounds (taurine, green tea leaf extract, guarana seed extract with caffeine, etc.). I sometimes use products like this in my water when I work out and these were a nice change of pace from my usual BCAA powder. But only on weekends because I work out at night and can’t handle caffeine at 8PM!

bulubox-june-2016-mask

Leaders Coconut Gel Mask with Broccoli – Value $4

I like sheet masks (I review Beauteque Mask Maven and TutiiMask here at MSA). But, this is a little strange to get in Bulu Box, especially since they don’t seem to sell it in their shop. This mask has a lot of antioxidants from the broccoli and, like most sheet masks, the plant extracts are quite well purified so it doesn’t actually smell like broccoli! I also found it calming and moisturizing.

Vital 4U Vitamin Complete Daily Vitamin Mineral Amino Pack – Value $1.17

This has some great qualities. Like, all the vitamin A is as beta carotene, which your body converts only as needed to the active form. (This is better than the retinol form, which you can overdose on via oral intake.) It also has plenty of B vitamins, vitamin C, quercetin which may help against allergies, digestive enzymes, amino acids, a lot of calcium (multivitamins often are low on calcium because it is a bulky mineral), and a whole host of other things.

However. That is far too many pills to swallow in one day, as far as I am concerned, and I can’t find information relating to whether or not the softgels are vegetarian (usually softgels are not, but there are some exceptions). And, some of the compounds are repeated (B vitamins, calcium, and vitamin C appear in multiple pills). Plus, there are a whole bunch of herbs in some of the tablets, including St. John’s Wort which has some interactions with prescription medications, and guarana seed extract which has caffeine. At any rate, it pays to read the labels before taking supplements, because you never know what you will find.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $13 for the June Bulu Box. That is not bad for a $10 subscription, especially since you can get it for less with our MYSUB99 or MYSUB5 coupons and can review the items for points in their shop. Not every item was for me, but I did learn about some new products and brands, and I especially liked the Volo packets, Fitmiss sample, popcorn, and sheet mask.

I love love love my Bulu box but I’m really disappointed I can’t buy that mask or others like it in the shop.

Ragan I had to laugh because I thought the same thing about all those pills in the vitamin pack ( I’m an ICU nurse so I pass out a LOT of pills on a daily basis!) and the cost per month was prohibitive for most, but I can see some of my “Type A” friends thinking they need all those supplements to feel strong. BULU was one of my first subscriptions. I found the fitness box is more useful for me than the weight loss box and some months are great and others just meh… However when I have a problem Customer Service is quick and responsive. I travel a lot and use the little snacks and samples tucked into my carry on in case I am stuck in some remote airport or country and need a pick-me-up. The rest are kept in my locker at work so I can say I use everything they send and a value at $5 monthly.

Nyx takes more pills than that a day to manage her IBD and some of the side effects of her medication. But yeah, too many for me.

I subscribe to the weight loss box. This month was a big better than the last few months. I also got the popcorn, gum, and FitMiss sample. I also got three days worth of Stacker 2 Microdex, eye gel pads, hand sanitizer lotion, and a bottle of liquid stevia. I loved the gel eye pads!

I didn’t get the mask. I got two small paleo inspired nut bars. The vitamins seemed a bit much for one daily. I was a athlete and never needed that many vitamins. I couldn’t find the ingredients on the gel caps either so I cut open the vitamin e and used that only skin.
