Box of Happies is a monthly subscription box for handmade goods.  It’s a great way to discover new Etsy artisans.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

I kind of like these plastic cases.  They look to be a good size for storing beads or other craft supplies (and goodness knows, I have enough of those…).

The Subscription Box: Box of Happies

The Cost:  $29.99 (that’s $24/month + $5.99 shipping; when I played with the shopping cart I was also charged tax but I think that’s because they’re in the same state I am); save with longer subscriptions

The Products:  3-5 handmade items such as jewelry, stationery, bath/body items, accessories, and more.

Ships to: US

Included was an information card listing the items in the box.  Also there was a business card for Box of Happies.

Skin Like Butter Body Wash – Value $5

This is really thick and is almost more of a scrub for me.  It has an awesome grapefruit scent (I don’t like “clean and fresh” in perfume, but it’s perfect for the shower).  I’m a fan.  They have some other scents that sound great (pineapple? almond? dark chocolate?) so I may place an order and try a few more.

Country by the Bumpkins Wooden Ampersand Sign – Value $5

I need some decorations for my office (at work, that is, not a home office).  I think this will work there.  I may set it on a shelf instead of hanging it.  You can also buy letters from the same shop if you want to spell something out, do a monogram, etc.

Box of Happies Bracelet – Value $8

I took the value from the information card since this is an exclusive item for this box.  It’s a little unusual, but I think it will look good in a stack with other bracelets.

Box of Happies Earrings – Value $10

This is another exclusive item.  I have a metal sensitivity but it will be easy to switch out the hooks for titanium so I can wear these.

Box of Happies Braided Hair Ties – Value $5.99

I don’t like the flat ribbon-style hair ties (they don’t stay in my hair), but these work much better for me.  They will get used and used and used until they fall apart.

Here is a picture of the bracelet on my wrist.  I took the photos for this box under bad lighting conditions (it was late at night) so it is hard to see, but the “stone” is actually a deep red.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $34 for the May 2016 Box of Happies.  That’s better than the cost of the subscription, which is unusual for boxes consisting only of handmade items.  I also like the curation – it can be overwhelming to navigate Etsy, since there are so many similar shops, so I kind of like that someone else picks a few shops to sample from (without me having to pay individual shipping costs for items from each shop).

Country by the bumpkins custom made the wooden boxes for my wedding centerpieces (and they did a great job and were affordable)! Pretty cool to see them in this box!!!

The hair ties are cute! They remind me of the braided Scunci ones from the Target Beauty Box.
