One side of the card reveals this month’s theme, “Hydration Station.”

The other side of the card gives a little more information about the masks, including directions if they are unusual.

Also, this is May’s package.  These ship in two batches based on your sign-up date and I happen to receive mine quite late in the month.

maskmaven-may-2016-aritaum

Aritaum Fresh Power Hyaluronic Acid Mask – Value $0.80

Aritaum Fresh Power Pearl Mask – Value $0.80

This brand is new to me.  I found that these masks were low on the serum compared to some of the others and that they had rather large mouth holes.  The pearl mask includes hydrolyzed pearl extract, which is supposed to be brightening as well as moisturizing.  The hyaluronic acid mask, of course, contains hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is a polymer that holds on to a lot of water and can thus help with moisturization and skin elasticity.

My Beauty Diary Red Vine Mask – Value $1.99

My Beauty Diary masks are like the drippiest masks of all time.  I will put one on and read a book for 10-15 minutes and then when I look down at my shirt, the neck is soaked.  But, they are effective.  This did some toning and tightening and also had tea leaf extract which adds some antioxidants.  This has a light fragrance and no alcohol, despite the wine association.

Mediheal Paraffin Foot Mask – Value $2

This was one of the spoiler items for the month.  These are NOT the same as foot peels; rather, they are intended to moisturize the feat.  They contain shea butter, collagen, and urea for moisturizing and gentle exfoliation.  I did find this moisturizing although I think you would have to use them frequently to see effects on cracked heels and such.  I should try these after the next time I do a foot peel to keep my feet looking good for longer.  By the way, this does remove some toenail polish…

Scinic Hyaluronic Acid Mask – Value $2.10

This was not too drippy and it fit my face very well.  This contains aloe for moisture and redness reduction, silver birch (Betula alba) bark and leaf extracts for making the skin rosy (not sure I experienced this), and hyaluronate which, of course, is good for moisturizing.

No:hJ Aqua Soothing Mask Pack (Snail) – Value $2.04

No:hJ Aqua Soothing Mask Pack (Hyaluronic Acid) – Value $2.04

I found both of these moisturizing but super hard to unfold.  The masks are made of Tencel, which is a form of rayon.  It is pretty soft and flexible but the serum made it stick to itself.  Both masks contain ceramide (waxy lipids which will help with moisturizing) as well as witch hazel extract which is good for toning.  The snail mask included snail secretion filtrate for added moisture and the hyaluronic acid mask had hyaluronic acid instead.  I found the performance of each to be fairly similar.

maskmaven-may-2016-skin9

Skin 9 Village Super Puppy Whitening Honey Pack – Value $3

This was listed on the information card as a “mystery” mask.  I know I have gotten this one from Mask Maven before, so I think “mystery” is more just a way of getting rid of overstock.  But that’s OK.  I did like this one.  It has royal jelly which has antibacterial and firming properties, niacinamide and allantoin for brightening, tea leaf extract which will have antioxidants, rose water which should do some toning, and snail secretion filtrate and hyaluronate for moisture (so even though it is a leftover, it fits the hydration theme).  I always feel so silly in masks with animal faces printed on them…

Scinic Snail Matrix Mask – Value $2.10 (?)

I couldn’t find this particular one online, so I just assumed it had the same value as the other Scinic mask.  I am going to assume it has similar ingredients as the hyaluronic acid mask discussed earlier, but with snail secretion filtrate instead of hyaluronic acid as the moisturizing ingredient.  I do feel that my skin was soothed and moisturized after using this.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $17 for the May 2016 Beauteque Mask Maven.  As with many K-beauty products, prices are all over the place.   This is a little bit below the cost of a subscription if you pay month-to-month, although Beauteque runs promotions all the time.  Plus, most months they are above the cost of the subscription, so it evens out over time.  I also didn’t see a ton of brand repeats from previous months, which was nice. Overall, I have been enjoying this subscription a lot.

I’ve subbed and then cancelled this one when I get a full stash of masks and i really like what they send. After just 3 months I had a stockpile of masks and just re-subbed for June so I can get some newer different ones. lol

They package it very nicely and I have never gotten a bum package from mask maven, every item is awesome and gets used. I highly recommend this one.

I may be cancelling my beauty fix as well, I have been with them for over a year and the value and usefulness to me is getting lower each month. I’ve been eyeing glossybox but the spoilers are awful lately so i have held back. lol

Ragan

I use masks almost every day now so I actually manage to finish off both Mask Maven and Tutii Mask and some from my stash every month!

(I agree with holding off on Glossybox, I am stuck with them for a few more months…)
