This month's info came on a pamphlet instead of a card. The theme is Fantasy.
Seven Deadly Sins Volume 1 - $10.99
This is a great fantasy and action/adventure manga! The setting is reminiscent of the Middle Ages and some of the story elements and lore are borrowed from King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table. To avoid spoiling the manga though, here's the description on the cover:
Welcome to the land of Britannia, a picturesque country ruled by the benevolent King Liones...or at least it was, until the king's guard assassinated him and started a full-blown Holy War! Now the king's only daughter Elizabeth must seek the aid of the dreaded warriors, The Seven Deadly Sins. Wrongly framed and sent into exile, they're now the princess's only hope to free the kingdom from the grip of the villainous Holy Knights!
One Punch Man Stress Ball - $5?
This is a stress ball shaped like Saitama's bald head. I absolutely love One Punch Man for its idiotic humor and parodying of superhero tropes. One Punch Man is a story about a hero, Saitama, who can kill monsters or enemies with just one punch. Due to his overwhelming strength Saitama becomes bored and discouraged, wanting to find a challenging opponent to fight. This is one of the funniest superhero series in my recent memory.
Best of Anime Series 1 Mystery Figure - $7.67
Out of the Funko mystery figures I get Ciel Phantomhive! It's about 2.5 inches tall and is super cute. It perfectly matches the Ciel plush I received in last month's Akibento.
Akibento Monthly Pin - $1?
This is the Fantasy pin.
Close up of Ciel Phantomhive figure.
Hetalia Notebook - $8?
Subscribers receive a mystery anime notebook. I received Hetalia, a humorous series set in WWII where all the characters are personifications of different countries like Italy, Japan, and United States. This is a licensed Funimation item.
Exclusive Supernatural Pillowcase - $15?
This is an Akibento exclusive. This is the first pillowcase I've ever gotten from a subscription box! There is no indication what it's made out of, but the material is soft and has some static cling. I'm unsure what anime or manga the characters are from.
Here's the full pillowcase.
Exclusive Fantasy Shirt - $12?
The monthly exclusive tee is a soft cotton Gildan shirt, modeled by my boyfriend. I recognize Haruhi Suzumiya on the left but I don't know who the headless motorcyclist is.
Verdict: May's Akibento is a very diverse box! I really enjoyed the Fantasy theme and featured anime/manga series. Also, there was a manga! Yay! I did notice that a few Akibento exclusive items look like they're fan-made items (or not in collaboration with licensed companies). It's great to have a mix of licensed and fan-made things. My estimate of the value is around $60. Aside from my previous suggestion that their info card should be more detailed, Akibento continues to impress me!
