UniversalYums-April-2016-Card

Universal Yums includes a booklet that lists all of the items in the box.

UniversalYums-April-2016-CardInside1

The booklet includes trivia and other fun info. (This month’s booklet even includes a link to an online playlist of Polish music!)

Universal Yums also details the ingredients of each item on their website.

UniversalYums-April-2016-Chips

Tapsy Cheese & Onion Potato Crisps

Onion Potato Prazynki

Both of these potato chips have a really interesting texture. They’re kind of… styrofoamy? (I mean that in the best possible way!) Between the two of them, I preferred the Tapsy Cheese & Onion. I had to ask my husband to physically take them away from me, so I wouldn’t eat the entire bag in one sitting!

UniversalYums-April-2016-TikiTaki

Wawel Tiki Taki Chocolate Bar

I love the combination of chocolate and coconut, and this bar is really tasty.

E Wedel Chalwa

Chalwa (or halva) is a tahini-based confection that’s popular throughout the middle east. I’m a big fan, but I didn’t realize it was popular in Poland, too.

UniversalYums-April-2016-Milka

Katarzynki Dark Chocolate Gingerbread- $1.50

Katarzynki has been making these gingerbread cookies since 1763, despite a rocky history. During WWII, the government dismantled the company’s gingerbread making equipment, so the parts could be repurposed for military use. After the war, the factory was controlled and operated by the government. (It was finally returned to the private owners in 1982.) I’m glad they persisted throughout the struggles- the cookies are delicious!

Milka Chocolate Covered Cow- $2.99

Milka is a large European chocolate company, and I’m a fan of their treats. Milka was founded in Switzerland and manufactures a lot of their chocolate in Germany, but these chocolate covered cows are made exclusively in Poland.

UniversalYums-April-2016-Prince

E Wedel Panna Cotta Milk Chocolate Bar

This bar is a combination of real cream filling, fresh raspberry preserves, and milk chocolate. I don’t think I’ve ever had a candy bar like this one before!

Prince Polo Classic- $0.79

Since 1955, Prince Polo has been Poland’s best selling chocolate bar. The wafer and chocolate combination is really tasty- I’m a fan!

UniversalYums-April-2016-Draze

Draze Cream Dragees

These candies have a “hard candy shell outside with a creamy, smooth, yogurt-flavored inside.” The packaging is extremely familiar, so I suspect I’ve tried these candies before somewhere. Yogurt-flavored candies are always seem a little exotic to me, but I like them.

Solidarnosc Candied Plums

These chocolate covered plums were my husband’s favorite item in this month’s box. Universal Yums describes them as a “giant chocolate-covered raisin,” which I think is a great description.

UniversalYums-April-2016-Candy

Wiosenne Chocolate Covered Fruit Jellies

Krowki Milky Cream Fudge

Wawel Raczki “Lobster Tails”

Universal Yums always includes a selection of individually-wrapped candies from the month’s featured country. I enjoyed all of this month’s candies, but I especially enjoyed the chocolate covered fruit gummies. (Chocolate + gummy candy= delicious! Who knew!)

UniversalYums-April-2016-Next

On the back of the information card, Universal Yums provides a clue to the next month’s destination. What are your thoughts about the clue? I’m thinking Greece.

Verdict: I discovered a lot of new treats in this month’s Universal Yums box! Standout items for me were definitely the cheese & onion potato chips, the Tiki Taki bar, and the chocolate covered fruit gummies. It’s always difficult to determine a value for boxes from Universal Yums, but I feel they do a pretty good job of sending full boxes packed with treats I wouldn’t necessarily be able to find locally.

This is my favorite Gift Box!~ I’ve given 3 6mo subscriptions!
I love them~ they ALWAYS arrive on time the 15th of the month
They ALWAYS provide tracking so you can see where your items are (also for the people you gifted to, so you know they are getting it)
I paid $13 a month for the small box~ my dad told my mom I must have spent a fortune!~ it really looks like you’re getting a LOT
ONLY beef is Junes box is suppose to be from… the USA.. how is that international; that seems lazy & disappointed me.
There chocolates treets that they include are very good… so you should note that they do NOT ship chocolates during the warm months… start them back up again in Oct (so I think I’d wait until then to subscribe) all mine subscriptions on this box expire in June

Man, I wish I would have gotten this box! All of the candy looks like something I would either like or would’t mind trying. That’s my biggest fear with candy or food subscriptions, I’m such a picky eater that I likely wouldn’t get my money’s worth, but this seems like it would have been amazing!

I lived in Poland for awhile for post-graduate work (literally across the street from the E. Wedel factory – they sold “irregulars” in big plastic bags…). I definitely have a fondness for Polish snacks and have tried most of these! Luckily for me, I’m in Chicago, so we have several Polish markets where I can get my fix!

This was my first box from Universal Yums and I loved it! I think it’s great that they focus solely on one country of origin; I had tried Muchpak recently, but it was all over the place and I didn’t enjoy the individual snacks quite as much flavor wise. Maybe I liked this box in particular because I’m Eastern European and it held a special place for me.

The only thing I wish is that they had an online shop and the individual snacks (I LOVED the Onion Potato Prazynki and E Wedel Panna Cotta Milk Chocolate Bar) could be purchased. It was quite difficult to find these snacks online and often times it was in bulk or extravagant shipping costs. Looking forward to next month!

The people who run this box say that they are working on opening an online store so people can buy favorite items from past boxes. It will hopefully be up and running soon.

That’s fantastic! Hope they release news of it soon!

Amy

I’ve heard about this box before and am seriously thinking out trying it out. Are the ingredients provided in English for all of the items?

I think it should be Greece for next month, too. Especially, since they mention Hades.
