Every month’s box has a theme/idea that it’s curated around.
Here are the oils we’re working with this month.
The first project I did was the Cooling Aloe Spray.
I love this – I keep it in my fridge and spray it to refresh/moisturize during the day. It was pretty easy – just combining ingredients. I love that the bottle is glass, too.
Next was the coconut hair mask and lime infused salt!
I’ve never used lime-infused salt, but I don’t drink so I’ll have to try it with chicken soup or corn on the cob, like they recommend on the info card!
I haven’t used the hair mask yet, but I’m looking forward to it… I need one! It’s still melt-y liquid in this photo because I microwaved it a little to make the coconut oil stir-able. I’ve been recommended to use coconut oil as a hair mask, so the olive and essential oils can only make it even more effective than that.
Last, I made the sunscreen. I never knew you could DIY sunscreen!
For this project, you had to melt some things in a double-broiler.
All done! I think I waited a little longer than I should have to pour it into the container; it had thickened from being totally liquid so it was messy and difficult to get it in the tube. I can’t speak to how well it works, because I don’t personally care for the texture. It’s super thick and doesn’t absorb very well – I think it’s probably the beeswax? Maybe there’s too much; I’m not sure.
Verdict: This wasn’t my favorite My Lemon Crate, but I still enjoyed it and learned some things! I know the projects are pretty easy but I’m okay with that because I can’t commit to super hands-on or complicated projects right now as a new mom, but also the point of the box isn’t to be challenging; the point is to teach you new ways to use oils. And it did that!
As far as value goes, I personally think the value is there. I could get the little jars and containers and such for less than $29, but not also full sizes of all the other ingredients involved and definitely not also the essential oils I would need. And like I mentioned earlier, it is convenient to not have to buy full-size containers of ingredients like this that I wouldn’t really use except for just a couple projects.
