The bag came with this information card, which included directions for each product (the labels were not in English so this was helpful) as well as the products’ intended effects.
Goodal Night Flower Nutrition Mask – Value $4
I was first introduced to Goodal through the K-Beauty Birchbox. I have a couple of their products in my skincare routine right now (love the Refine Pore Tightening Essence and the Phytoshine Acaiberry Brightening Cream in particular) but I think this is the first time I’ve gotten one of their sheet masks. This has fermented night flower (evening primrose) extract and many natural oils for moisture, anti-inflammatory effects, and skin soothing effects. The serum on this was kind of white instead of clear. Some of the skin on my face has been a bit irritated lately (maybe too much experimentation with skincare products lately?) and I think this mask definitely helped. (Also very happy to find this brand at Target.com!)
Skin Food Flower Top Coat (10 mL) – Value $1.16
My nails are in terrible shape and are flaking and peeling right now. I don’t know how useful it is to put vitamins on non-living extruded keratin protein (basically what nails are) but I like the idea of it, anyway. (Subscribers could alternatively have received a base coat.) I was a little worried about the color of this in the bottle but I put it on over a very light green with gold microglitter (Francine from this month’s Julep) and it didn’t make the polish look pink at all. Plus I have gone for two days without chips or edge wear. (Though my nails are very short right now…)
Sulwhasoo Essential Firming Cream (5 mL) – Value $6.41
Sometimes you score and get a sample of a very expensive item in the TutiiBag (they’ve had SK-II products before, too). The full size of this is $95.
This has a super long ingredients list but some products that stand out are ginseng (which has anti-cancer properties and may help stimulate collagen production as well as wound healing), licorice root (which has anti-inflammatory properties and supposedly interferes with melanin production – though I’m not sure rubbing a cream on the surface of your skin will result in cellular uptake), and tea leaf extract for antioxidants.
Anyway, there is enough of this to use a few times. I like firming creams because I’ve recently lost some weight and I want to maintain skin elasticity. I’d been using one from Algenist that I got from BeautyDNA but I’m happy to switch things up for a little while.
The Face Shop Air Cotton Makeup Base in Lavender (40 mL) – Value $6.21
Subscribers could have received “mint” instead of lavender. This refers to the color and not any scent. The mint one is green and is supposed to provide color correction for redness. The lavender one is supposed to correct yellow or sallow complexions. This is also a high SPF product, which is great – it allowed me to skip the sunscreen step in my skincare routine.
I don’t really have a yellow/sallow complexion, though. I found a lot of reviews online and most of the people who were not fond of this product were Asian, while most of the people who liked it were Caucasian, which is interesting (it was a very non-scientific study, though…). I am Caucasian and I thought it was OK although it didn’t control oil quite as much as I needed it to (it was all right for a few hours but not all day). Some reviewers say it leaves a white layer on the face (probably from the sunscreen) but I didn’t notice that. However, I am the palest foundation shade and can use whitish mineral sunscreens on my face without any trouble. I’ll use this on weekends but stick to my Paula’s Choice Shine Stopper for work days…
Skin 1004 Zombie Pack + Activator – Value $4.29
This is supposed to help with elasticity and pores. It has allantoin, which moisturizes and softens the skin, rose extract (for toning, among other benefits), lavender and aloe which should be soothing, and should also be good for people with inflammatory skin conditions since it contains hawthorn.
But this is marketed as an instant facelift. You mix some of the activator into the powder packet and put the mixture on your face. In the time it took me to remove the glitter polish you see a few photos up, this was TIGHT. Like a clay mask but much more intense. (Way more effective than those Roloxin Lift packets from Birchbox last year.) I washed this off in the shower afterwards and I could still feel the tightening effects a few hours later.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $22 for the May 2016 Miss Tutii Bag. However, prices were all over the place and it could be more or less. It is a better value than last month and although I’d heard of some of the brands before, the products were all new to me. I had fun trying out all the products and I have generally been quite happy with this subscription the whole time I’ve been getting it.
What did you think of the May 2016 Miss Tutii Bag? Do you get any K-Beauty or Asian Beauty subscriptions?
