Le Tote
3.7 overall rating
24 Ratings | 10 Reviews

Le Tote is a month-to-month clothing rental subscription. When you sign up, you browse their catalog of clothing and accessories and create your “closet,” from which they select items to send to you. You keep the clothing to wear as long as you like, and you can also send back your box for a new selection of items as frequently as you like. If you love something enough to want to purchase it, you can simply hold onto it when you send the rest of that box back. Also, if you purchase your whole tote, you get one month free!

FYI – the items in my Le Tote boxes are selected for me based off of my preferences and style profile, so your boxes may look completely different!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 1

Gorjana Honeybee Studs – retail: $38, LT price: $33

How cute are these? They’re tiny little bees. I thought they were adorable.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 2

French Connection Berry Crossbody – retail: $66, LT price: $54

I like this shade of purple. I’m really into smaller cross-body bags right now, so this one was fun to use!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 3

A detail shot of the purse…

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 4

And here’s the purse with me so you can get a better sense of the size.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 5

MAX STUDIO Twisted Cut Out Top – retail: $78, LT price: $60

This top is comfortable and easy to wear! I don’t know how flattering it is on me, though, so I just wore this around the house.

B CENTRALE Naomi Leggings – retail: $36, LT price; $15

These leggings were comfortable, and easy to wear. Lots of stretch, no seeing through them, which was great.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 6

COLLECTIVE CONCEPTS Easy Floral Blouse – retail: $60, LT price: $44

This top has a very pretty print! However I think I can do much better as far as a flattering silhouette – this one is a little too boxy.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - all items 2

Now for my second tote of April!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 7

KENNETH COLE Lateral Magnetic Bracelet – retail: $55, LT price: $44

I really like this bracelet! It fit me really well and I really love how the ends magnetically clip together.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 8

I think it looks great and it was really comfortable on, too.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 9

CAMILLA Flower Pendant Necklace – retail: $38, LT price: $28

How pretty is this necklace? I love all the colors, which feel like they go well with my closet. I would have bought this had the metal been silver!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 10

UTTAM Rose Printed Dress – retail: $86, LT price: $66

I liked this dress a lot more before I put it on. The pattern is pretty and the material is comfortable, but I think the base color doesn’t work well for me. Love the floral and birds, though!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 11

TBAGS Tie Front Tunic Dress – retail: $105, LT price: $82

This is one of my favorite items I’ve rented from LT. It was so comfortable and the material was a little slinky and soft and cool-feeling. I dig the print, too. I would have bought this if it were cheaper!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 12

MAX STUDIO Ruched Long Sleeve Tee – retail: $78, LT price: $60

This top was so comfortable! It felt like pajamas. I loved pairing the floral necklace with it, too!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - all items 3

And now for my third tote for April!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 13

FRENCH CONNECTION Fatima Cross-body – retail: $58, LT price: $46

I super love this purse! The color is great and I think it was new! Or very close to new. The material felt great and it’s a cute little cross body. I’ve been debating keeping this but I just think it may be too small. Just barely! My wallet wouldn’t fit in it, and definitely not with my huge phone too (I have a Galaxy Note 4).

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 14

I really liked the way the strap attached. Instead of chains you clip it to on the sides, there were snaps on the inside of the flap!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 15

And here’s a peek at the inside.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 16

SAM EDELMAN V Pendant – retail: $45, LT price: $36

This necklace is simple and pretty. I like it, but I have so many simple, pretty, silver necklaces in my closet already!

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 17

EIGHT SIXTY Floral Twist Blouse – retail: $68, LT: $54

Can you tell I’m excited for summer with all these florals?? Again, I like this print but I think the cut is too boxy for my figure. It’s not bad, I just don’t feel fabulous.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 18

OCTAVIA Desiree Cascade Dress – retail: $85, LT price: $66

This dress is great! So comfortable and flattering, and I love the wrap top. It’s a smidge shorter than what I like in the front, but I still enjoyed wearing it.

LE TOTE APRIL 2016 - items 19

AVA Camilla Jersey Shift Dress – retail: $89, LT price: $68

I’ve been enjoying shift dresses lately so I thought I’d try this one. My goodness, the print is louder in person than it was on the site! It’s cute but I think as a whole dress it’s a little intense. This was super comfortable, though!

The Verdict: In April I went through 3 totes. My very favorite part of this sub is that I can keep the items as long as I like and wear them before deciding if I want to buy them or send them back. Sometimes it takes feeling how a piece wears before realizing that it won’t actually work for you, or that it’s itchy, or stretches out easily, or something like that. I also feel like there is minimal pressure to buy items, since it is a rental service and not a styling service. I feel this aspect gives me permission to enjoy (and wear!) the clothes and not feel bad or awkward when I send everything back (even though I do often keep an item per tote sometimes).

Evaluating the value is a little tricky because I think the value of renting clothes and accessories is pretty subjective and different for everyone. I can see this being a great service for someone who uses a “capsule wardrobe” or someone who doesn’t like to wear the same thing twice or has a lot of social events to go to, or even women in the process of losing weight!

I agree with the negative reviews of Le Tote. I thought it would be fun to get different clothes to try, but the quality is awful! The website is hard to navigate, and I rarely get anything I “like”. The clothes look like they are for an old woman, most of them are synthetic materials, and they arrive wrinkled and worn. I tried for about 4 months, but will be cancelling.

Also, now Le Tote requires you to call in during business hours to process any cancellation, which is a huge pain. No more easy online cancellations. I tried them a long time ago and then again just recently, and the same problems are still there. Stinky, worn clothing and nothing I want being available for my totes. I love the concept, but there are obviously a lot of challenges that they have not been able to overcome in my opinion.

Le Totes customer service is horrid. It took me months to get the cancellation finalized. Additionally, if you don’t get a chance to customize your tote expect to NOT receive anything on your wish list.
Beware of the funky, funky smell of some clothing items which I guess is what passes as cleaning. I washed and hung dry then ironed so I could wear on more then one occasion.
Finally…sizing can be weird. Brands differed dramatically and a small in one brand felt like a medium in another, which I rather thought they should have a handle on given they knew the brands and had my size.
Save your money or buy from a quality resale or bargain store. You’ll get pieces you love without the ill fitting funky smelling poor customer service hassle.
Feel free to email me if you are in the fence!

I’ve subscribed to LeTote since August 2015. It’s by far my favorite subscription box. Unfortunately it’s $49 a month or approximately $600 a year.
The pros: I’ve gotten to wear expensive designer clothes without buying them.
I really like being able to wear something before buying it. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on things I’ve gotten from LeTote. It’s given me the opportunity to try and buy trendy, stylish clothing and accessories outside of what I’d ordinarily purchase. I also really like the option of swapping out what they choose for you. I use that option every time. I’m able to pick things that I like and that are appropriate to what events I’m attending and what’s appropriate for the weather here.
The cons: It’s $49 which adds up. If you buy anything, that’s in addition to that $49. The only time you get a break is if you buy the whole box. They’ve also eliminated the perk of getting a sixth item if you purchase something in your box.
I work from home, so I don’t really think I get my money’s worth. I looked at my record. I average two boxes a month.
I’ve also gotten items that look worn and limp. Basically their clothes are used, yet you don’t get consignment prices.
For the most part, I think it’s been a lot of fun. I enjoy trying things that are outside the box for me and expanding my style. You never have to buy anything. Since I get to wear things before I buy them, I rarely have had buyer’s remorse.
I think it’s a great option for those who are trying to lose weight, who want or need to expand their wardrobe without spending a fortune, and for those who have special events to go to…..if you can time it right.

I’m new to Le Tote. I kept two things from my last tote but my next one still only shows 5 items. How do you get the sixth item?

Kay

I haven’t completed the sign-up because my subscription cost was $59.

Heather

They changed their pricing a few months back so new subscriptions are $59 now. It used to be $49 and was grandfathered in for existing subs.

Kay

Thank you. I really like the concept and what I saw, but I’m petite, so not sure if the offerings will fit, without a lot of alterations.

How does the laundering process work with this sub? Do you launder before you ship it back? Also, what happens if it accidentally gets damaged while you have it?

Reply ButtonReply

Haley Faye

Jess,

There is no laundering! They clean it for you. And there’s also a $5 monthly Insurance of charge you can pick that covers any damages that are fixable like a button missing or snag. If an item is damaged completely though you are charged for the cost of the item

I normally don’t comment on what you wear but the last shift dress looks AMAZiNG on you!! (And I normally don’t wear loud colors) I think it’s mush more fun than some of those florals, which can age someone.
Girl, rock that look! Haha

Casey

I agree with you, that dress looks amazing on you! I say rock it too!!!
