KaffeBox includes a leaflet that provides information about the month’s featured roaster.

This month, they’ve sent two different coffees from Kaffa, a small scale roaster based in Oslo, Norway. (Fun fact: Kaffa’s founder, Robert William Thoresen, was crowned the 2000 World Champion of Barista Art!)

Daniel Moreno Honduras (125 g.)

This coffee is grown by the Moreno family in Santa Barbara, Honduras. It has an interesting and unusual aroma that reminds me of red berries and spice.

I brewed a pot of this coffee soon after the beans arrived, and I really enjoyed it. The flavor is complex, with a great balance of brightness and richness.

La Palma & El Tucan Colombia (125 g.)

La Palma & El Tucan is a Columbian coffee farm and processing station that approaches the process of making coffee kind of like a wine producer. They use controlled fermentation to develop unexpected flavors in their coffee beans.

This coffee is also really tasty!

The Verdict: I love coffee and I enjoy discovering new roasters, so I have a lot of fun with KaffeBox. Value is tricky to determine for this box (since it’s being sent from overseas), but I think the $19 price is reasonable. I’ve been thrilled with the beans KaffeBox has sent so far, and I love sampling Scandinavian coffee that’s difficult or impossible to find in the US!
