My April FoodStirs box was for ombre pancakes (this box is available for one time purchase in their store, here, or as a free trial here).  I received one package of mix, and one package of dye to create the ombre effect!  The mix called for milk, yogurt, eggs, and melted butter.

FS5

FoodStirs included a flower decoration (but only one - I guess only one person that is eating the pancakes is worthy of the flower!), and a pancake form to make consistently sized pancakes.

FS6

You'll notice that I included my coffee in this picture - caffeine is an integral piece of my day, and there's no way I'm cooking without any in my system!  Here's the mix with no dye so far.  FoodStirs recommended that you split the pancake batter into three bowls, and dye each of them to the desired color.  I thought it would be easier to make all the pale pink, then add more for the darker pink, and then add more for the darkest pink.  Ain't nobody got time to dirty that many dishes in the morning.  My way worked well!

FS7

Here's the pancake mold in action - I sprayed it with non-stick cooking spray as FoodStirs recommended, and it worked well to make perfectly sized pancakes.  Would I do this all the time?  Definitely not.  For a pretty stack though, it was worth it.

FS8

Here's the finished product!  An pretty, ombre stack of pancakes with a delicious iced coffee.  Not too bad, if I say so myself!

Verdict:  I think I got about 12 pancakes out of the mix, so this would probably be enough for 4-6 people, depending on how many pancakes each person can eat.  $19.99 seems a bit steep for pancake mix, but when you think about it in terms of each person, you'd be paying that much, or more out to breakfast.

The mix and instructions were super easy, and this would definitely be a fun activity to do with kids helping.  I think it would be a great way to get them involved in the kitchen, and maybe even spark a passion that will last the rest of their lives!

I can't wait to see what my next FoodStirs box will be...Have you tried FoodStirs yet?

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

For $20.00 they send you some flour, salt, baking powder(pancake mix), a mold, a pack of dye, and a paper flower, while you supply milk, yogurt, eggs, and melted butter? I think I’ll pass. Mama didn’t raise no fool.

I tried one of their mixes since it was included in February’s PSMH. The end result was delicious but I do agree with the rest that it is expensive. I know they stand for non-artificial ingredients but sugar is sugar…

This looks like an April Fool’s day post or a prank at best. Thanks for reviewing. I’ll be skipping this box.

I coudn’t justify this sub price. Even if I was ordering pancakes out someone else would be preparing them and serving me, and doing the clean-up. I am curious to know how long it took to prepare 12 pancakes with 1 mold– and were the first ones cold by the time you finished making all of them?

At least if I was out to breakfast someone else would be doing the cooking, and serving me. I find this really hard to justify– seems like a rip-off…

Or you could buy a package of pancake mix and one of food colors for $4 at most and have unlimited pancakes in all the colors of the rainbow.

nope, I just don’t get this box.
