Chroma.Club’s goal is to "blend the calming benefits of art therapy with the fun of creativity and innovation, by publishing design that won't bore you, and will create a real connection between the original artworks and the colors you use to add more fun, life, or character to them."

While coloring in this way isn’t considered traditional art therapy as it does not address a specific concern with the assistance of a certified therapist, there seems to be quite a bit of press (and a few studies too) recently about the stress relieving impact of coloring.  I found this article very interesting.

This was shared effort between me and my daughter.  We both liked this artwork and we have fun coloring this page.  When my daughter was moving her hand around the page, the ink from the gel pens we were using spread into the white space but I was able to use some white out to make it look better.  Oh, the pains of perfectionism...

We’re so happy with the new gels pens we purchased on the recommendation of some people who commented on the April Chroma.Club review!  Of course, we’re still not master colorers (I don’t think I’ve ever used this word before!) but we don’t care because it’s fun.  Now I want new colored pencils too and I need at least 100 of them so I can have various shades of each color.

I find we tend to go toward the designs with smaller spaces now we have the gel pens.

I think I’ll get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to a Picasso next time. TBD.

Verdict:  We enjoyed using our Chroma Club coloring book even more this month!  Again I left the coloring book out on the table and more people go into this month since we had company.  We’ve colored about half of the book already and only had it about 4 days.  We found this size was a bit difficult for two people to color at the same time; however, the size is great for one person who wants to carry the book around.  I can see myself taking the book when traveling or when I expect we’ll be waiting some place.

As for the value of this subscription, I think it’s worth it.  I love having the new designs each month as well as the variation in art.  Everyone is different though so you have to ask yourself if the $8.00 cost is worth it to you.  An adult coloring book on Amazon typically costs between $5.00-$10.00.  We own three adult coloring books and if you compare the number of pages you receive, the large book format from Amazon is a better deal.  What I don’t like about the large books is that they aren’t as easy to take with you and they typically stick to one theme. Chroma Club has different designs and themes with an easy to carry booklet which I find more conducive to our needs and interests.

Does Chroma Club look like something you might enjoy each month?

This is not really a good value. I received the booklet for last month and it is really like an 8 page pamphlet. I don’t even consider this a subscription “box” because it comes in a small flat envelope. For $8 you are basically paying $1 for each small page. If you are interested in adult coloring there are several other subs out there that I have tried– the one that I enjoy the most is Adult Color Box. It comes in a real box because it delivers 2 “regular” sized adult coloring books plus sets of colored pencils, markers, gel pens, crayons and various other coloring related items. The price is a little higher but at least you are not paying $1 per page, plus you get so many more items each month!

I agree, I don’t think it’s a good value at all. Especially when you can find coloring books on sale all the time. I just picked up two full size 10 page coloring books from CVS for $3 each. I would like to cancel my chroma club subscription but I can’t figure out how. =( I hope they respond to my email.
