Each month comes with a detailed sheet explain why the chose the comic, a little bit about the comic, and also details about maturity levels of the read.
Like last month, another issue was running late – so we were one short of what was listed here. But, also like last month, we’ll be getting it as a bonus next month!
Samurai #1 – Value $3.99
The terrible battle against the treacherous Akuma has been won, and the empire is safe once more. But Takeo has set out for the mysterious Unnamed Island to continue his quest to finally discover the truth about his brother and his family… and the symbolic tattoo that saved his life.
I’ve never been big into Samurai or Ninjas – this may have to go to a friend who is majorly into those categories.
House of Penance #1 – Value $3.99
This one is talked about as a ‘Western ghost story’ – which, I have to admit, sounds pretty awesome.
The Winchester House… famous for its original owners bizarre compulsion to incorporate a multitude of architectural curiosities. But as the bereaved Sarah Winchesters workers toil on stairways to nothing and doors to nowhere, a mysterious stranger arrives . . . and he could make Sarahs demons all too real.
Jackpot #1 – Value $3.99
Awesome – a heist comic! I’m really excited to start reading this one – even more so because of the creators!
Meet the World’s Greatest Con Artists on the eve of the greatest scam in human history –ripping off the Gods themselves! The high-stakes, high-octane story of JACKPOT! begins here! Ray Fawkes, acclaimed creator of INTERSECT and writer of GOTHAM BY MIDNIGHT and BATMAN:ETERNAL teams up with Marco Failla (Spider-Man & the X-Men) to bring a new mind bending, genre-busting monthly series from AfterShock!
Poe Dameron #1 – Value $4.99
I really enjoy the latest runs of Star Wars Marvel comics. This issue got mixed reviews, but that doesn’t mean I’m not excited to get more backstory of Poe Dameron!
AN ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES SPINNING OUT OF STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS! Poe Dameron, former Republic flyer turned Resistance fighter, is the best pilot in the galaxy. Hand-picked for the resistance by General Leia Organa to lead a squadron on a top secret and vital mission…Poe sets off investigating sites of historical importance to the Force. Revealing backstory leading directly into the holidays’ greatest adventure, follow Poe and his X-Wing squadron on covert missions against the First Order.
Black-Eyed Kids #1 – Value $1.99
This wins award for creeping me out this most this month 🙂
It’s dark. You’re alone. Then there’s a knock. You open the door to nd two seemingly normal kids. They ask to come in, to borrow your phone to call for a ride. You nd yourself overcome with an intense fear that you can’t explain. And then you notice their eyes…black…SOLID black. You want to run, but now they’re inside. It’s too late. They have you. Eisner Award winner Joe Pruett (X-Men Unlimited, Cable) is joined by artist Szymon Kudranski (Spawn, Penguin: Pain and Prejudice) for this terrifying new horror series.
I’ve never really tried to get into Horror comics – is anyone big into that genre? Any more suggestions?
Dept. H – Value ??
A murder mystery under water – and her Dad looks just like Steve Zissou! I really enjoyed this read, and I absolutely love the artwork inside.
This is an exclusive cover – and it’s beautiful. As usual, there are 3 tiers of rarity with these variants. I got the normal level variant, which is limited to 800. There’s a black and white sketch variant, limited to 150 copies. And, then there’s the super rare/super awesome, original sketch, signed version, limited to 50.
I had to include this example of one the super rare variants. It’s incredible and I couldn’t be more jealous of the recipients!
Verdict: A ton to discover and read this month from Blindbox Comics. I tend to stick to the mainstream comics (lame, I know) so I get excited when I get introduced to something new that I enjoy. Dept. H is definitely in that category – and there’s a good chance one of these other titles is too (I have high hopes for this heist title). While I appreciate those lesser known titles, I also appreciate getting something like Poe Dameron just as much – I’m really excited to start!
