I have had a lifelong love affair with baklava.  The crispy layers, drenched in sticky honey, mixed with spices and nuts is just heaven in my mouth.  Unfortunately, it's never had a moment, like cupcakes or macarons, but it is rave worthy nonetheless.  If you like baklava, you know that it isn't always the easiest treat to find.

With the 1 pound subscription, they promise 14-16 pieces in each shipment.  My shipment had 14 pieces of baklava, so this box is right on target so far.  They say that if you store the treats at room temperature, they should last about 14 days, and they also give recommended freshness times for the refrigerator and freezer.

Baklavva3

This is a Mini Rose with Cashew - the cashew treats are always my favorite, and this was no different.  It was very flaky, not super sweet, and just all around perfect.

Baklavva4

This is pistachio burma.  The inside is made up of what I would almost describe as a soft pistachio brittle - it has caramelized sugars cementing the pistachio together.  The outside is almost like shredded wheat glued together with honey, which sounds weird but it works!  I liked this one.

Baklavva5

This is the walnut filled, traditional baklava.  I received more of this instead of the usual four varieties, which is fine with me.  I love traditional baklava, and it is one of the only ways I will eat walnuts!

Verdict:  The value of this box has to be determined by, you, the individual subscriber.  I think the cost of the box is very reasonable for the products included.  The cost breakdown per piece is about $1.49 when you factor in the shipping for a one pound box.  Baklava is easy $3.00 a piece where I live, due to the expensive nuts and honey used to make each piece - which makes this a steal in comparison.

With that, my recommendation is usually the same for this box - if you love baklava and can't access it easily where you live - I highly recommend this subscription!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I am hoping that Baklavva Subscription Box is still available. This is perhaps one of the most unique snack subscription boxes I have encountered. I was first introduced to baklava through a friend. I remember how time consuming there were to prepare. Only the best ingredients are used. The making of baklava is an art, love affair, both. Different is good, its good to be different, hats off to Baklavva.

I was disappointed to order and then get an email saying they are shutting down the business! I was looking forward to this one!

I’m curious what the recommended freshness time lines are for the refrigerated/freezer storage? I love baklava, but I don’t know that I could eat it all in 14 days! …okay, I totally could, but definitely shouldn’t. 😉
