YummyBazaar-March-2016-Info

This month’s theme is “Hello Japan!”

YummyBazaar-March-2016-ItemList1

Yummy Bazaar includes a booklet that outlines the items inside in the box.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-ItemList2

The booklet includes a couple of recipes that utilize items from the box.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Wasabi

Wasabi Crackers with Seaweed by Daiko (2.8 oz.)- $4.99

I tore into these crackers right after I finished photographing everything (and before reading the info booklet), and I was surprised to discover they have a VERY potent wasabi flavor. I’m a big fan of wasabi, so it was a pleasant surprise, but they certainly pack a punch.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Ramen

Gluten Free Miso Ramen by Kobayashi (6.44 oz. x 2)- $12.99

One of the recipes included in this month’s booklet offers tips on how to enrich this ramen by adding extra ingredients (corn, roasted pork, green onions, and bean sprouts) to the miso broth. I made the noodles for lunch one day (without any supplemental meats or veggies), and I enjoyed them.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Tea

Sweet Sakura Green Tea (10 tea bags) - $6.95

(Note: I’ve used the value provided by Yummy Bazaar for this item, since it’s lower than the price I found online.) This green tea is made with real cherry blossoms, and the flavor is delicate and sweet. It’s delicious hot, but I think it will be great cold, too. I’m going to try using it to cold brew a pitcher of iced tea.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Sesame

Sweet Black Sesame Paste by Saniku (6.7 oz.)- $9.95

Black sesame paste is commonly used in Japanese desserts, and I’m a big fan of the flavor. It’s nutty, rich, complex, and sweet. I’ve never baked with it before, but I can’t wait to try! I found a recipe for Black Sesame Pear Tea Cake that looks divine!

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Ponzu

Premium Yuzu Ponzu Sauce by Teraokake (10 oz.)- $9.95

Yuzu Ponzu sauce is made with citrus and soy, and it can be used in a variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Yummy Bazaar has included a recipe for Grilled Salmon with Zuzu Ponzu Sauce in their info booklet, which sounds delicious. I can’t wait to give it a try!

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Dressing

Roasted Sesame Goma Dressing by Taiyo Sangyo (10 oz.)- $8.75

Sesame dressing is one of the most popular dressings in Japan, and this one is made with “kuki sesame,” sourced from Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture.

YummyBazaar-March-2016-Cake

Premium Baumkuchen Cake by Shimizu (8.05 oz.)- $9.95

Baumkuchen is a much-loved cake in Japan that gained popularity when it was served at a German exhibition in 1919. I was delighted with I pulled this can from the box, and I couldn’t wait to try it!

It’s soft with a delicate, lightly sweet flavor. I’m a fan!

Verdict: Yummy Bazaar's Destination Food Club is one of my favorite foodie subscription boxes! I love that they send full-sized international food products, and I think it’s so much fun to discover gourmet products from a new country every month. This month’s Japan box was a big hit for me. I love the wasabi crackers, dressing, and Baumkuchen cake, and I can’t wait to try cooking with the black sesame paste. The items in this box have a combined retail value of $63.49, which is fantastic for a $36 box!

One of these days I’m going to subscribe to this box! It’s hands down the best food box – love the full size items and the value is unbelievable for a food box.

This is my favorite foodie box. This will be my third month and so far every month has been great. My granddaughter is 8 and looks forward to this box each month and we make it our Saturday night adventure. We prepare our meal using the recipes provided and has been great fun. Enjoy your reviews!
