The bonus item this month are these tea crystals from Pique. I tried the earl grey so far and it was pretty good! It also includes a coupon code for 15% off an order at Pique Tea.
Golden State Wax Co. Coachella – 8 oz, value: value: $18
This fragrance is interesting – I’m not sure if it’s quite my taste, though. It has patchouli, bergamot, sandalwood, and musk. I like the fragrance alright but I’m not sure I’ll want to burn it and make my house smell like it. The info card says this fragrance is “light and sweet… without being too incense-y.” Maybe I’m just sensitive, but I don’t agree with the “light and sweet” bit. It’s still pretty incense-y to me.
Golden State Wax Co. Mojave – 3.5 oz, value: $8
The info cards says that this candle has cedarwood, white musk, chaparral, golden poppy, lavender, dry dessert air, cresorte, & desert sage, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s accurate. The Golden State Wax Co website says it smells like cinnamon candy, and I agree. Maybe not exactly cinnamon candy, but their website doesn’t say all the notes in it, so maybe the notes VellaBox lists are in it still. But I do like this one better! The cap did come dented, though.
Here’s a shot of the dented cap. It’s really not a big deal at all, since it still screws on and off just fine. I just thought it was worth noting!
Verdict: This is the first month from VellaBox I haven’t loved both scents. I plan to gift the Coachella one but I do like the Mojave fragrance, even if the info description may be off. The value adds up to about $26, based on my estimations. I couldn’t find the Mojave fragrance in a 3.5 oz for sale on their website, so I’m estimating the value on that one. I know the value is a little less than the cost of the box, but I do think curation/discovery plays a bit into the value for this sub, so keep that in mind. Also, the fact that it costs $5 flat shipping from Golden State Wax Co may level out the value a little. All in all, I’m happy – especially because this is the first month that hasn’t been perfectly in line with my taste. I’m still looking forward to future boxes, too.
