TRUE LOVE BOX MARCH 2016 - items 1

Easter Magnet – value: $2.50?

This Easter/Spring magnet is cute. It’s not really my style but I think the design is pretty with the different fonts and colors.

Funny Display Plaque – value $5?

This made me chuckle. It’s not something I would personally display in my home, but I know it’s often too true!

Rubber Wallet Pouch – value: $6?

This would be good for a pre-teen, I think. Or maybe used as a little pouch for something other than money. It’s a soft rubber and opens and closes easily. Not sure I have a need for this, so I’ll probably swap this.

Mini Antiqued Chest – value: $2?

This item is pretty underwhelming for me. It’s really small – the base area is smaller than a business card. Subscribers got different colors of this; this blue/green or brown/more “natural” looking wood.

Here’s what it looks like opened up.

Elegant Expressions Incense Gift Kit – value: $17

This little incense set is actually pretty nice. I like the pretty holder and the fact that these incense sticks are mini – maybe half the length of typical incense sticks. I like this because I like incense okay but I don’t use them all that often, and when I do it is only for a little bit.  It also comes with incense cones. The fragrances are coconut, vanilla, strawberry, wind, floral fields, and black cherry.

Here’s a better look at the holder.

Can Coozie – value: $5?

This is not my personal taste – I neither use coozies nor am a fan of the design. Also, I really don’t feel like this is a good thing to suggest as a generally great gift for significant others. I know there are definitely many couples who would find this funny and think the other person would get a laugh out of it, but there are definitely also many people who would hate getting this as a gift from their significant other. Some subscribers got different sayings, FYI.

Ceramic Nesting Measuring Cups – value: $8?

These are actually pretty nice. They’re little nesting measuring cups. Some subscribers also got these in white.

Here are the cups unpackaged – there’s a ¼ cup, ½ cup, and 1 cup. I think these are quite nice, I just don’t think I’d grab these over my measuring cup set that I currently use. These would be cute on display, though!

The Verdict: True Love Box describes itself as “lovey dovey” and says that it will help “keep the magic and surprise in your relationship.” Personally, I really don’t see that delivered in what they put together here. I’m really underwhelmed by my first impression of them. Most of the items aren’t my taste, and that’s my individual opinion, but I also feel like a lot of this stuff also seems a little dollar store to me. The values are mostly guesstimated, but they add up to about $45. That just breaks even with the cost of the box shipped. Which is another issue I have – the products just aren’t what I would expect from a subscription box priced at $35, especially with $9 shipping.  I don’t know, I just don’t feel like this box is where it should be for that price range and for what it claims to be.

  1. I don’t subscribe to this box but looking at it, I can totally agree with your final verdict.

….if my husband ever got me that can cozie, we’d have trouble! So tacky!

  2. maybe this really is an April Fool’s joke. I clicked the link because I was curious to see the website & pitch for this doosey. it leads to Cratejoy who doesn’t own up to having any affiliation. ???

    • Thanks for letting us know. I believe the links were working when this review was originally published, so this is a recent change. It looks like they decided to pause their subscription temporarily:

    • I found reviews on a couple other sites, so I think it is for real. And the links were live earlier today!

    • to add more…found actual website (it’s down). plus, the Facebook page has been removed. I think some reviewers out there have been had.

I did find a blogger–Frugal Mommy?–that loved every single item & thought it was a huge hit. she either is kissing a** to get more free subs to review or hasn’t the most discerning taste.

  3. I don’t think this box is as bad as all that, these comments are a little harsh. I think the main issue seems to be a lack of thoughtfulness… these seem to be a lot of random items that don’t go together & tell a story. This box would be a lot better if it had a more cohesive theme.

  4. If this is true love I don’t want to see true hate…

  5. Since we don’t have a like button on these comments, please note I LOVE these comments.

Wowza. That makes Peaches and Petals look like Luxor.

    Bless their hearts.

    • ^^Favorite comment^^

“Makes Peaches & Petals look like Luxor” ?

It’s good to see another sub helping to keep either/both Dollar General and AliExpress in business.

    • This is the best comment on this box. This box makes me feel like they threw together random items. No coherency and pretty much no one I love would want this.

  6. And the measuring cups are incomplete it doesn’t even have a 1/3 cup. Any baker knows you need that one as well. Very bad box

  7. I have seen the rubber wallet pouch and the tiny “antique” chest at Dollar Tree, which may be where they got most of the stuff from. I feel sorry for the victims, um.. I mean subscribers of this.?

  8. Oh sweet h to the ell no.

This is like my nightmare box. The only thing I’d even keep are the measuring cups. Not to mention, something like popsugar at the same price would be a far nicer gift for a significant other.

This box looks like it’s from a warehouse where subscription boxes go to die of shame.

    • LMAO! It does look bad, doesn’t it lol. And has nothing to do with relationships/love at all (if that was really what they were aiming for lol).

  9. I really have no words for this box but I did buy one of those rubber wallets a while ago to use at the beach to keep my phone from getting wet and sandy. I use it all the time for that so if you cant swap that is a good use for it.

  10. Wow, this is truely a rip off. I remember in high school a few friends worked for this ripeoff sales company who sold these products; they would purchase super cheap items identical to these in bulk, then jack the prices up super high and get kids to go sell them door to door where they would get a tiny % of the profits. Those incense are worth a few bucks at most. It really upsets me when companies market crap boxes like this, thet know they are ripping people off.

  11. Wow. I feel like they spent more money designing and having their branded shipping boxes than the actual contents. Branding is important, but the actual goods should be the priority. I can’t see how these items would be good ideas for gifts or how they would justify the monthly cost.

  12. This is terrible. Truly terrible. What were they thinking?

  13. Agree this looks like a box from the Dollar Store, terribly disappointing for a $44 box, you could get LLB, PopSugar, White Willow, My Texas Market, all way nicer for about the same price.

  14. I can’t even handle how bad this box is for almost $45 shipped. What were they thinking? It is so evident that these are dollar store/Wal-Mart items. Mind blown.

  15. I found that exact can coozie at my local dollar store and picked it up as a gag gift for my little brother. They also had different funny sayings. Looks like the people in this box took a trip to the dollar store for most of this junk.

  16. late april fools joke?

    • I’m not surprised. I wonder why it didn’t come up when I Googled it. Thank you!

  17. The message that I get is, “I stopped at a yard sale and look at what I bought for five dollars!”.

  18. describes itself as “lovey dovey” and says that it will help “keep the magic and surprise in your relationship.” I’ll go along with this statement. If my SO gave me this I would be surprised alright. A coozie, measuring cups, a small poorly put together box, a plastic coin purse? “Lovey Dovey”? Thank you for your honest review. I agree, they have a LONG way to go on this box.

  19. “The house is a mess, you’re fat, and you should probably be baking something”. What a beautiful message to send to the woman you love.

    • And don’t forget you/your house smells bad 🙂

    • LOL!
