SINGLE CUP CLUB APRIL 2016 - info

Each box comes with some information on the lid, explaining the brands, brews, and coffee profiles.

SINGLE CUP CLUB APRIL 2016 - items 1

Bright and Early Coffee Jamaica Me Crazy Blend – value: $2 total

This roast is described as “Kahlua, caramel, and vanilla over perfectly roasted Central American coffee beans to create this Island Blend.” I tried this one first since caramel and vanilla are my favorite flavors in my coffee! Unfortunately, when I tried this black, it was pretty weak and the flavor wasn’t very rich. When I mixed in my usual cream and sugar, it was really not good. I brewed this using the largest cup option on my Keurig, so this blend may taste better if I use the smaller cup option so I’ll try that next time, but I like drinking more coffee than that.

SINGLE CUP CLUB APRIL 2016 - items 2

Twisted Pine Organic Sumatra Blend – 5 cups, value: $2.70 total

The info sheet describes this as “earthy and rich with natural smokey and maple syrup tones. Very rich and craft roasted to medium dark roast.” I know I love earthy coffee, but some maple syrup tones sound heavenly too! I tried this black, and I loved it! And with my regular cream and sugar it was delicious, too. This was my favorite blend this month.

SINGLE CUP CLUB APRIL 2016 - items 3

Coffee Icon Double Barrel Blend – value: $2.70 total

I like my coffee pretty strong, so I thought I’d love this blend. It’s described as “we take 2 barrels of beans and combine and roast dark for a blend that will blow you away.” Well, this must be a DARK, dark roast! When I tried it black, I could definitely say it “blew me away,” haha. It’s very strong. With my usual cream and sugar it was much more drinkable. I like this, but I have to doctor it up a bit for my personal taste!

Verdict: I really like the concept of Single Cup Club. I like trying different blends and roasts with my Keurig, so I had fun with this box. The only thing I feel like you have to consider is the value. I think a lot of value comes from the curation and discovery aspect from this. 15 single-serve cups for $15 is pretty steep when compared to how many you can get for $15 at the grocery store. So, if you love exploring different coffees and trying blends you never would have found on your own, and own a Keurig, this subscription might be for you!

Note – Shipping is now “free within the US” according to their site – but the sub price changed to include those costs, going up from 12.99 to 19.00 for a monthly sub recently.

I gifted it, so I haven’t tried the coffee yet.

It is pricey for the volume of coffee you get, but you get a variety and I expect it to be fresher and better than grocery brands.

Also it’s better to see the shipping charges in the box price, because Cratejoy sales don’t reduce shipping so now you’ll save that %-off the entire purchase total – I’d have saved $6 more this way! Just make sure it still says shipping is free if they have a sale.

Customer service is pretty good – I questioned why I was charged $24 for shipping when the site says ‘free’. They replied within an hour and said that deal started AFTER they raised the price of the box by $6 to include shipping costs. Although I would’ve appreciated a portion of freight refunded, they offered me a full refund if I wasn’t satisfied and wanted to cancel – even though one box already shipped.
