Purr Packs is a monthly subscription box for cats.  You can choose from several different subscription tiers, with customization offered for higher tiers (for example, you can exclude certain protein sources in treats).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Purr Packs

purrpacks-april-2016-names

They put my cats’ names on the box.  Love it!

Included was an information card detailing some of the items for the month.

purrpacks-april-2016-dryerase

Cat is Good Fluffy Chirping Ball – Value $2.99

PurrPacks often includes at least one noisemaking toy.  Sometimes my cats like them and sometimes not.  They seemed to enjoy this one more than usual.

Savvy Tabby Snuggle Mouse – Value $1.68

The kitties like the fluffiness of this one.  A good standby.

Magnetic Dry Erase Board – Value $5 (?)

This is definitely going on the refrigerator.  Which has already been taken over by pet-related magnets and photos.  This comes from a screen printing company and I’m having a hard time finding this specific item online.

purrpacks-april-2016-scratchpad

PurrPacks Exclusive Scratch Pad (large) – Value $10 (?)

There is one of these in every PurrPacks box.  We are lining our upstairs hallway with them.  The cats love them.

purrpacks-april-2016-monkeytoys

As always, Monkey was super helpful.

purrpacks-april-2016-toys

Fat Cat Springy Worms – Value $5.70

The tails of these were tightly wound, which I guess is why they’re called “springy.”  Mostly the cats just like them because they’re small and easy to toss around.

Petstages Madcap Frog & Fly – Value $6.99

This was Monkey’s favorite thing.  We’ve gotten a lot of toys from this company and product line and Monkey loves every single one.  He licks and licks and licks them until they are wet, wet, wet.

purrpacks-april-2016-toys2

OurPets 24 Karat – Value $3.29

Monkey and Sneaky both liked this.  It’s just at the upper limit of the size they like in toys.

JW Pet Company Cataction Bouncing Feather Boa – Value $3.43

This was probably the best item in the box as far as my cats were concerned.  All of them enjoyed playing with it.  Feathers are quite popular around here (as you will see below).

purrpacks-april-2016-treats

Feline Greenies Dental Treats in Ocean Fish Flavor (2.5 oz) – Value $1.89

I have so many open treats right now, this is going to remain sealed for awhile.  But my cats have been getting more into fish flavors so I expect these to be popular.  I do find it mildly funny that a dental treat is in fish flavor since fish treats usually stink.

Purebites Freeze Dried Chicken Breast (0.6 oz) – Value $1.99

We have been getting a lot of these lately.  Seriously a lot.  But I like this company, having had experience with their products in the past, and I like that the treats only have one ingredient.

purrpacks-april-2016-madison

Madison likes feathers, too.

purrpacks-april-2016-madisonb

Madison checking out the springy worm.

Monkey really liked this frog toy.  Check out his tongue in the third picture.

purrpacks-april-2016-monkeyd

Monkey liked the carrot, too.  He was having a lot of fun last night when I took these.

purrpacks-april-2016-monkeyscratch

Monkey claimed the scratch pad for himself.

purrpacks-april-2016-sneakya

purrpacks-april-2016-sneakyb

Sneaky bites things!

purrpacks-april-2016-sneakyscratch

Sneaky and Monkey had a little ownership dispute over this one.

And here is the best picture I have taken of Mr. Kitty in a long time.  I love this photo.  (FYI, the dark part in his right eye is called a corneal sequestrum and it is a result of his eye herpes.  It is a cluster of dead cells that have picked up pigment.  Most cats would have surgery for this but because of his IBD medications, the ophthalmologist suggested waiting it out and letting them slough off.  And yes, his left eye is cloudy and the vet knows about that too.  It is also a result of corneal damage from his eye herpes combined with immune suppression from his IBD medications.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $43 for the April 2016 Purr Packs box.  That is a little bit lower than the average value for this subscription, but still several dollars above the cost of the subscription.  (Cat subscriptions seem to have very low values, so to get one above the cost of the box is good.)  The items were hits with my cats, too.  This is consistently one of my favorite cat subscriptions and this month was no exception.

I have 6 cats and I bought that carrot toy for my cats for Christmas last year. It’s their favorite toy ever. It causes a daily cat fight because they all want to play with it at the same time.

Once again my post was there and now it’s gone. Maybe it will return maybe it won’t. It’s very strange. Sorry if this ends up posting twice.

I just love your cat box reviews. Your cats are adorable. They get more subscription boxes than I do. We have an 18.5 year old cat with IBD and no teeth. He is on a special diet and steroids. Those Pure Bites treats in duck flavor are one of the only treats he can have. They are difficult to come by in that flavor so I buy the ones for dogs. We have to crush them up for him anyway.

I used to do the same thing with the duck Pure Bites for dogs. There are some lamb jerky treats from ZiwiPeak that Mr. Kitty can have. Like $7 a bag but worth it because he gets so excited.

P.S. Mr. Kitty has kind of bad teeth (he has had 6 removed so far) but we hesitate to do anything else because of his prednisolone (which slows the healing process although it does control his IBD).

How long do you keep these toys before tossing them out? My cat has several toys that are more than a year old… Is that bad?

Ragan

I keep the toys until they get damaged/destroyed (or barfed on or something). So there are some that are several years old.

Your cats are so cute playing with the box items.

We just tried the Greenies recently for our cats. One of them especially is extremely picky about treats, but they both loved these.

Always Love seeing the kitties play with their stuff! My cat is “big fat and lazy”….hehe…she is picky on her treats. I always hate to risk getting a box that involves treats. And she doesn’t need too many “extra toys” to entertain herself. Even when she was a kitten she had a few toys she was fixed upon. She does loovvvvveeee boxes!!! And She’d rather sit in the window and keep her nose on what people and the dog is doing.
