Pet Treater is a subscription box for dogs.  But, they offered this limited edition box for cats so of course I had to check it out.  (Note: As of the time I was writing this review, this box was still available for purchase.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box included this letter.

Petstages Catnip Roll-On – Value $4.64

I have some catnip spray but the cats don’t like it when it is wet.  I am interested in trying this format to see if perhaps the roll-on has less liquid in it.  Usually I can get  at least some of them interested in licking a cardboard box (!) if I add catnip scent to it.  I could only find this from resellers online so take the value with a grain of salt.

More Stuff on My Cat – Value $14.88

I love little books like this.  I am especially fond of this one because Monkey and Mr. Kitty have appeared on the website associated with this book in the past.  (I would’ve linked to the photos but I can’t find them.  It was almost five years ago, though…)  This is no longer in print so the price above is the lowest price for a new copy of the book from a third party seller on Amazon.

Sport Pet Designs Scratch ‘n’ Climb – Value $23

My cats have enjoyed products like this in the past.  They were somewhat interested in this one.  It was hard to keep this together because the plastic pieces that made the arch were too stiff to stay in the joints.  I have seen this exact item for sale at around this price on several sites although I have also bought items like this that were larger for much, much less at Publix and Target.

Simple Solution Cat Calming Bath Wipes (8 ct) – Value $3.99

Wipes are always good because have you ever tried giving a cat a bath?  (Well, Monkey tolerates it.  But the rest don’t…)  These have been discontinued, though they are still available as closeouts in a few places.

Hometec Paw Print Litter Mat (23.5 x 17.75 inches) – Value $9.99

I am saving this for when I get a kitten (I promised myself one as a reward for losing 42 pounds and I am a little over halfway there).  Because s/he will probably have to hang out in a different room until the older cats get used to the idea, and I will need something to keep cat litter from getting all over the carpet.  I could only find this from resellers online.

Krislin U-Fill Catnip Toy Frog – Value $4.81

I like the idea of refillable catnip toys but my cats don’t really seem to be into them.  I think they have to be kind of large to accommodate Velcro closures and that may be part of the problem.  I could only find this on wholesale sites but $4.81 is the suggested retail price.

Smart n’ Tasty Feline Dental Treats in Ocean Fish Flavor (3 oz) – Value $3.99

These are a hit with Sneaky and Madison.  As are most treats.

Red Barn Cat Treats in Grain Free Chicken (2.64 oz) – Value $3.79

Another hit with Sneaky and Madison.  (Mr. Kitty can’t have most treats because of his IBD and Monkey is just not interested in treats, for whatever reason.)

Sport Pet Designs Jungle Ball – Value $2 (?)

The cats liked this but the feathers weren’t attached very well.  They were basically just pushed into a hole in the top and they started coming out almost immediately.  I couldn’t find this anywhere online so the value is based on similar items.

Cat photo time!!

Madison investigates some of the toys from the box.

Monkey stalking the feather ball.

Monkey liked the noisy ball from this item before I hung it up.  Now he is even more fascinated with it.

Sneaky “helps” assemble the cat gym.

pettreatercat-april-2016-sparkles

Mr. Kitty actually was playing with this (he likes feathers).  But my camera has this orange light before it flashes and he knows the orange light means a flash is coming.  So he always closes his eyes.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $71 for the Pet Treater Special Edition Cat Box.  This is pretty good for a $25 box.  But I am disappointed in the quality of some of the items (cat play gym that wouldn’t stay together and feather ball where the feathers wouldn’t stay in) and also that so many of the items were discontinued, closeouts, or only available from third party sellers on Amazon.  (The treats were not expired, at least, and both are part of the current product lines from their respective manufacturers.)  I would give Pet Treater another chance with cat items, though, because their dog subscription started in a similar way and it has been improving.

Couple of notes: I had a problem with the payment processing the first time I tried to order.  When I tried again, I ended up getting charged twice.  But, I contacted Pet Treater and they were pretty fast about refunding the extra charge.  Also, I placed the order as soon as I heard about this box, which was February 22, but I did not actually receive the box until April.  I suspect if you ordered now you would get it sooner since the boxes are prepared and are shipping out.

I ordered this for my two furries — and they LOVED it! I had a few issues with the gym, too, but it was with the bottom pieces staying together in the middle. That has not diminished the playing, however. The catnip toys needed no help coming off their cardboard (fiesty furries!) and everything was a hit. I’m REALLY glad I took a chance on this box. I look forward to others in the future!

I think I have a cat crush on Mr. Kitty! ? Is he your oldest? I ask to see if he falls into my animal demographic. I gravitate toward the more senior statesmen!

Congrats on your weight loss so far! A new kitty would definitely be a good motivation for me too?
Can’t wait to see pics of the new kitty too!

Wow, this is a lot of stuff for $25! I’ll have to give this box a try, I feel like the other ones I see are $30+ and (seemingly) not worth the price.
