The box came with this information card.  This month’s theme is the Old West.

Multipet Boot – Value $2.99

Multipet Hat – Value $2.99

These are cute and fit the theme.  They have a faux suede/velour sort of finish.  The cats weren’t really into them because of the next item, which won out over everything else in the box (as I knew it would).  I’ve put them up in the bedroom because I’m sure the cat will investigate later.

From the Field “Chewy” the Hemp Rope – Value $2.99

We have had this before.  It is simple and cheap (see it away from the catnip in a bit).  And the cats LOVE these things.  One of their favorite toys ever, I think.

Sigh.  Let’s push Monkey out of the way and try again…

Pet Gift Box Cowboy Crunch (2.5 oz) – Value $6.50 (?)

These are 100% buffalo meat strips.  They are kind of a weird treat to give to cats.  They seem more like something you’d give to a dog.  I broke them into tiny pieces and Madison loved them.  Sneaky found them too difficult to eat and she gave up.  The value is a guess based on similar items since this is an exclusive.

Petgreens Medley Self Grow Pet Grass (3 oz) – Value $3.99

We’ve had something like this before and I know Monkey and Mr. Kitty are fans.  It takes a few days to get one of these started.  Also be sure to put a plate underneath it and change the plate every so often or it will start to smell really bad under there.

Gratuitous cat photo time!!

Sneaky bites one of the bison treats.  (I like how Madison is inserting himself over on the left…)

Mr. Kitty liked the rope toy, too.

Monkey wasn’t playing with the toys but he sure wanted into the box later on…

Madison doesn’t usually want to take part in our photo sessions.  But he was all over the rope toy.  I have dozens of pictures like this now.

This is a little blurry but I just love how he is sticking his tongue out.  He was really into the bison treats.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $19.46 for the April Pet GiftBox.  That is quite a bit below the cost of the subscription unless you sign up for a year, in which case you do a little better than break even.  I liked the mix of items but I thought the bison treats were a bit strange (though Madison did like them).  I would liked to have seen at least one or two more items to get closer to the month-to-month cost of the subscription, though.

A note about customer service: I was supposed to get the March box but a shipping label was created and then the package never got sent.  They aren’t quite sure what happened and they didn’t have enough inventory to re-send so I was given a refund and a credit.  I do appreciate the communication and response time.

What do you think of the April Pet GiftBox?  Do you subscribe to any dog or cat boxes?

I also paid for this box in February and did not receive it until a full 8 weeks later. I have emailed with Lilly of their Customer Service many, many times and she also said that my March box was “lost” with no replacement stock. Finally, after many, many complaints on my part, she offered me $5 off a May box. However, I am canceling my subscription because that kind of delay is just inexcusable. I just cannot fathom a company taking payment for a subscription box that they don’t deliver on for 2 full months! I think perhaps their sub list grew too much too quickly with the Groupon deal they offered in February. I just feel like I got cheated by this company, honestly.

They had good communication with me. They gave me a refund for the box that never arrived and they sent me April for free since they were unable to send a replacement for the March box (I think I paid initially on 2/29). And this is before a review had ever been posted on MSA so they had no idea I was associated with the site in any way. I think I only contacted them once.

I love how Monkey is always front and center when you first open the boxes! He’s such a character.

I had the same issue with the March box. They said it was “lost in the shipping process” and they would send out a replacement box and credit my account so that my next box was free. I’ve had to follow-up a few times for any kind of update — finally they said they shipped my replacement and I would have tracking the next day. Still haven’t received the tracking # nor the replacement and it has been almost 30 days since I contacted them about the issue.

I received April on time, so not sure what their problem is with March.

Also, I had cancelled after my first box to try out the sub. A few days later they sent me an offer email to rejoin with reduced monthly price to just $18.99, which is their typical annual deal (plus they give the first box for only $8.99). I think that’s an awesome price point!

I had the same issue with my March box. I never received it, so I emailed them in mid April to inquire and they said they’d sold out of March. So why didn’t they contact me initially to say they’d sold out?

Currently, I’ve been back and forth with customer service, who is prompt to reply but unable to say why my April box hasn’t shipped. So basically I paid for a box in early March and still haven’t received anything!
