Salty Road Salt Water Taffy - Sea Salt Caramel - $7.00
This taffy is really, really good. I love anything salted caramel, and taffy is no different. It's just such a simple candy, but has a high flavor pay off. It's excellent, and the perfect texture too!
Element Shrub - Lemon Mint - $3.00?
Shrubs are completely new to me, but this was so interesting and delicious! Shrubs are made with fruit and vinegar(!), but they taste delicious when added to sparkling water for a refreshing drink. They can also be used in cocktails, but I am a mocktail girl all the way. Element's website gives a quick story about how they got started, and a ton of recipes to use their shrubs! I might just have to buy a few more!
Salina Sicilian Capers - $9.00
I'm not super familiar with capers, so here is what Eat.Feed.Love has to say about them: they're from a flowering bush in Italy and "When brined in vinegar or salt, these green little ovals develop an aromatic and array of complex tastes, delivering intense flavors of salty, floral, bitter, sour and vinegary all at once." These are dried capers (from what I can see), and you rehydrate them prior to use. Eat.Feed.Love included a pasta salad recipe that used these, so I went ahead and made it, with a few adjustments due to what I had on hand. It came out really good! These are very salty and briny, which is right up my alley!
Empire Mayonnaise Co. Bacon Mayonnaise - $8.00
I gave this to a friend to try, since it has bacon in it! She really liked it. It looks like this company has an absurd amount of different flavors of mayonnaise! If you're in Brooklyn, you can stop by their storefront to try all the different flavors. Smoked paprika sounds amazing!
Starlight Herb & Spice Co. Dill Weed - $6.50
This dried dill is SO strong, it's amazing. I love the flavor of dill, but oddly enough, i didn't have any in my cupboard! I've been using this off and on, and I really love it. I used it in the pasta salad recipe I tried this month, and it was great. I will note though, the salad calls for fresh dill, so be sure to use less of this in the salad if you go with the dried instead of the fresh.
Baia Pasta - Durum Wheat - Chifferi - $4.00
This is really good pasta. It has a nice bite, and it's quite chewy when you cook it al dente. I loved it in the pasta salad. The flavor is great too - this is everything I want in pasta.
Verdict: This Pantry Box value comes out to about $37.50, which is a little below the cost of the box. If you were to do a by item cost breakdown, it would be about $7.50 per item. I think this is one of the lower value boxes I've received, but I loved everything in it, and some of the items (the dill) will last me forever. Eat.Feed.Love also does offer free shipping on all of their boxes, which is a bit of an added value. With that said, I know if I paid for this box, I might be little disappointed in the value vs. the cost on this box. Since they just raised the price, maybe they need some time to adjust the items and value of the box? Either way, I've loved every single box I've received from this company, so I am anxious to see what next month brings!
