Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6 this year which is right around the corner. I have 3 kids in school so my family will be recognizing the efforts of several teachers very soon. My daughter’s first grade teacher was gracious enough to also share her thoughts on this month’s subscription box. (Thank you so much, Miss K!)

Pampered Teacher sent us this sample subscription box for review so it is not customized for a particular teacher. When you subscribe to Pampered Teacher, a few profile questions are asked so the box can be customized for the individual teacher:

Desired Style: Classic, Trendy, Eclectic

Type of Teacher: Elementary school teacher; Middle school teacher; High school teacher; Special Ed; Reading Specialist; Administration; Librarian; Counselor; Phys. Ed.

Hair accessory preferences: long hair; medium to short hair; do not use hair accessories

Pierced ears: pierced; not pierced; I don’t know.

Allergies: Peanut/Tree Nut; Chocolate; Soy; None of the above

An additional place to put notes or details you want to share.

Pampered Teacher also offers a box curated especially towards male teachers although I believe female teachers would appreciate the items in it as well.

The subscription box was nicely presented with tissue paper and secured with alphabet-themed washi tape.

Reusable Parfait Cup – Retail Value $6.50 on Amazon (Retail Price $12.50)

This is a 12 ounce reusable yogurt bottle with a separate divider in the cover for toppings and a spoon. (These are sold by Amazon in a 2 pack so I divided that price in half here.) Miss K said that she believes this item would probably be used by teachers and that she personally brings yogurt to school a couple of times a week.

pt_bookmark

Silicone Pointer Bookmark – Retail Value $3?

I am estimating the value here since Amazon sells 6 of these for $14.99. Miss K said that this was a nice item that may be used in class if it was received as a gift.

pt_earrings1

pt_earrings2

Jewelry – Retail Value?

Miss K said that pierced earrings are not super practical for all teachers. However, since this is a sample box and the profile settings allow you to customize whether the teacher has pierced ears this will help make sure the item will be useful for the recipient. It is nice that these earrings come in a Pampered Teacher-branded box. Since I have no idea what these are made out of or how much they are worth, I am listing unknown as the value here.

pt_flockedalpha1

Alphabet Stickers – Retail Value $3-4?

These are very cute, acid free, flocked cardstock letter stickers. Since I can only find these sold wholesale in massive lots with a unit price of around $1 depending on how many you want to purchase, and I have seen similar stickers in craft stores that sell for around $3-4, I am going with the higher retail value here. Miss K said these are nice for primary K-2 grade teachers, but not applicable for higher grades. (Since this subscription box has a customizable profile, the grade taught could be noted there.)

pt_corkboard

Mini Framed Cork Board and Fabric Pushpins – Retail Value $5?

This is a cute little cork board with fabric pushpins that could be used for posting short notes or small pictures. I can’t find anything similar enough to it to know the exact price, but my guess is about $5, although I could easily be wrong. Miss K said that in her opinion this is too small to use in the classroom.

pt_snack

COSMOS Creations Salted Caramel Premium Puffed Corn – Retail Value $1-2

This is an individual serving size of oven-baked, non-GMO salted caramel corn. I am estimating the value based on similar snacks from this same company. Miss K said this snack would be fine for teachers and that other good snacks would be nuts, trail mix, dried fruit, or a protein bar.

pt_all

Verdict: It is difficult for me to know the exact retail value of this box since several of the items I had to guess the value on, but I believe it probably is close to the cost of the subscription box itself, not counting the free shipping that is also included. I think this could be a good box for teachers especially if you customize the profile for the individual teacher recipient.

I bought the Pampered Teacher box for my sons teacher for Christmas. The box value was pretty good and my sons teacher really loved it and used it all right away!

Hello all you subscription box lovers!

My name is Jason and my wife and I purchased Pampered Teacher in October, 2017. We have made a huge effort to improve the quality (and quantity) of items in the box. We work with at least one small business/artisan crafter per box (our Valentine’s Day Box has 3!)

The price is the same, and shipping is still free.

Please come back and check us out, give us another chance! I’m going to see about getting a new review up here on the site as well.

Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!

I was looking at this because I am school counselor. But, unfortunately, I didn’t see anything that would peak my interest. I was also thinking of my friends who are teachers, and I’m not sure if they would be impressed with this . I will keep looking back to see what else this company will offer.

Cute items…love the fabric-covered push pins! The cork frame and push pins would be a great way to feature a student’s art work.

I received this box in the past as a quarterly and then recently renewed using the coupon. The lady who runs the box does customize to whatever you specify and remembers any special notes you may add (like I have 3 girls). But, this year she did revamp the box probably due to costs, and the value of the items have changed. I hope the value of the box go up as in previous shipments or that she’ll return to her original quarterly format which was more cost effective (for lack of a better word).

A friend of mine is an elementary school teacher, and I would be embarrassed to give this as a gift. It would be good if they had things you could customize with students’ art work or something like that. Maybe an adult coloring book for fun, or even a pack of classic foil star stickers to put on homework. Little prizes for students like pencil toppers or something. I dunno, just my thought.

Not sure of the value of the earrings, but my using my personal value (which probably doesn’t amount to much!) this box seems a little overpriced. Although, I would love to have the yogurt bottle …and the salted caramels!

It doesn’t seem great, but as a teacher it would be cute to get! I do love that yogurt tumbler though. I need to find me one!!

Nope. Not even close. It looks like a lot of dollar store/Target $1 bin items. I know this box wasn’t personalized so I hope the ones that are , are better but this is not something I would feel good about giving to anyone.

I agree. I was a librarian and I would not use/wear/eat any of the items in this box. Like you said, hopefully the box is better when customized for a specific person, but I really cannot see it being much different, even if specially curated. The sub box business isn’t for everyone, I guess. If I were going to create a box for the heroes of our education systems, I would put a lot more thought and time into it. It just seems they bought a bunch of items in bulk, tossed it together, and labeled it for “teachers”. I really don’t see anything particularly special that I would give to my child’s teacher. It’s a bit disappointing.

I read that you couldn’t find a value for the earrings. These exact earrings are sold as part of a necklace/earring set through the Wish shopping app. The whole set is $1, so that would make these earrings worth $0.50. I included the link at the end of the comment, so you can check out the listing and form your own opinion. It doesn’t look as though the earrings are made of any high end metals; they are listed as ‘silver plated’ however. I don’t know if the curators of this sub box purchased the earrings through Wish, but it does put a bit of a damper on the value, since I could purchase the entire set for $1 (+ $1 shipping). I have purchased jewelry through Wish before & I think the quality is okay, about what you’d expect for such a low price. It is definitely not what I would expect to find in a sub box that is supposed to be something special for teachers (I would rather see a piece of jewelry from a small business; possibly handmade and of higher quality. Something a bit more ‘special’, if that makes sense).

Thanks! It looks like they were originally listed at $39, but are now marked way down.
