MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - info 1

Here are the recipes for this month! The categories and recipes are Health & Wellness (Foaming Hand Soap), In the Kitchen (Herb Infused Dressing), Personal Care (Calendula Milk Bath), and Pets & Animals (Grooming Pet Wipes).

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 1

Here are the essential oil samples that came with my kit. I love the colorful labels! I wish the little sample containers were easier to open, but other than that I really like that they provide them so much. I often see recipes or projects but don’t want to go order a whole bottle of a couple oils to try that one thing.

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 2

The first project I did was foaming hand soap!

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 3

Here it is! (I also have to say I adore their labels!) This project involved me pouring in some castile soap and vitamin E oil, adding Bergamot and Wintergreen oils, and topping off with water. Simple, but I love the result. However, when I was done the soap smelled a lot like gum thanks to the Wintergreen oil, which was refreshing, but I went ahead and added some Lemon oil that I have. That made a huge difference and now I really love the scent.

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 4

The next two projects were the Herb Infused Dressing and the Calendula Milk Bath.

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 5

The finished products! These were also easy. They gave me everything I needed for the salad dressing except for the salt, sugar, and lemon juice. The milk bath has powdered milk and Epson salts and dried calendula. They had me mix in a Harmony essential oil blend, but I also added some of my own lavender and Joy blend.

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 6

One thing to note: I ended up with way too much milk bath. I could only put about half in the jar, so now I have a little baggie with the other half. Not a bad thing to have extra, though!

MY LEMON CRATE APRIL 2016 - items 7

This is the last project – grooming pet wipes. I haven’t made these yet because I don’t have pets, and I’m trying to figure out what else I could use these for. It says they help soothe aching, chaffed, chapped, and/or cracked paws. Maybe good for hands? Any ideas?

UPDATE: My Lemon Crate let us know that their cut-off date is the 5th of every month. New subscribers will receive their May box!

The Verdict: I’m really happy with my first My Lemon Crate! I think they really did a good job of providing projects that helped me realize some more ways I can use essential oils than just diffusing them like I do now. I also really love the packaging! The containers they provided for the projects are beautiful little glasses (I love the cork-topped bottle for the dressing, especially), and the labels are really well done. They’re perfect for gifting! Also, I know the projects are pretty easy but I’m happy with that because I can’t commit to super hands-on or complicated projects right now as a new mom who also has a lot of other stuff to do, too (and a baby that doesn’t sleep, haha)! As far as value goes, I personally think the value is there. I could get the little jars and containers and such for less than $29, but not also bags of Epsom salts, and powdered milk, mustard, basil-infused olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and definitely not also the essential oils I would need. And like I mentioned earlier, it’s nice not having to go buy full-size containers of stuff like this that I wouldn’t use myself except for just a couple projects.

So I finally decided to subscribe. I dropped my Ipsy and Glossybox since I want to get away from the chemicals anyways. I’m really hoping this is good (and does plenty of natural make-up 🙂

I feel a little weird about having ingredients to make food and bath/body stuff in the same box but that’s just my own ocd kicking in! This box looks amazing and easy enough that I won’t store in and never try the projects. Can’t wait to see next month’s review!

I’m impressed with this as it teaches some products to make, and almost everything needed was included. I hope you’ll be doing another review next month. If I enjoy reading that I will definitely order. It also looks simple enough for DIY that you can do as gifts for holiday.

Love! I’m the same – in love with the idea of essential oils but not sure how to use them. Some are too concentrated to use on skin, etc. I wonder if the oils sent here are high quality (or how to even tell the difference?). I’ve been using diluted castile soap for hand wash for years – between me and the family that is the most economical way I have come up with, plus it’s natural. I may need to sign up for this, pronto.

The oils we send are premium, therapeutic grade, essential oil samples. They are of the purest distillation and not altered or diluted in any way. We hand select each and every ingredient and have tested and used every recipe in our homes, with our kids, pets, and loved ones. Our goal is to show you how to discover + create + incorporate oils in every home. We’ve got some awesome crates in store, and would love to welcome you as a new subscriber!

So these are food grade? What is the carrier oil in them?

I would be very hesitant to ingest any of theses considering the lack of regulation.

Wow, this box seems really neat! I want 🙂

The oils in the Paul wipes smell like summer to me. I probably use them so wake the back of my neck and chest to refresh on a hot day

Seems like a fun box! Did you have any essential oil left over or are the vials exactly the amount needed? On one hand it seems over priced but on the other hand, gathering all the supplies and buying full bottles of oil is quite an investment in time and money. This is one I’m definitely interested in though.

We do give you a bit extra in the sample vials that are sent. Accidents happen, and personal preference is everything. You will always have more than enough oil for the recipe- but if you aren’t a precision pourer, it’s totally fine to just empty the whole vial instead of counting out the drops 🙂

This personal response is highly appreciated and impressive! Thank you.

I love the idea of this box… I love buying essential oils but don’t really know what to do with them (I just open them and smell them sometimes)! Do they provide any info on the oils themselves? I know bergamot can contain bergaptens, which are not great to put on your skin, but bergapten-free oil does exist. Not sure if there are similar things in any other oils, but perhaps that info is on the card somewhere?

Yes! We consider part of our job at My Lemon Crate to become a resource for oil users at every stage. Every oil we send in the crate is featured on our FB page, Mondays to be exact- and gives an in-depth overview on uses, origin, how to use it, etc. Each week we highlight a different oil and give you “Everyday Uses” so that you are a more informed consumer. https://www.facebook.com/mylemoncrate/
