The theme this month is "Sustainable Stationery."

The Karahisari Qalam, ink, and inkwell

Unfortunately, I have no idea the value of this pen, ink, and inkwell since it looks like it's an exclusive item for this box.  Googling around didn't help much either.  This is a sharpened thorn-grass and bamboo calligraphy pen from Indonesia.  Moustache Stationery says "it's known for retaining integrity and sharpness through rigorous usage amongst thousands of pages."

They recommend writing on glossy paper, which does work much better than flat.  I've included a sample of the ink and pen below, but I am definitely no calligrapher!

Wooden Envelope Template

Here is a similar template to the one I received.  This is really cool!  The largest envelope is the size of about a gift card (I've made one and included the picture below).  I don't know what else I would use the smaller ones for, but this is a really fun item!  I can now use my card stock stash to make envelopes!

Calligraphy Practice Sheets

This is another exclusive item for this box.  There are practice sheets for both cases of letters, and the finish is glossy, so the pen works well with these!  These take me back to Kindergarten, and learning my letters!

Clairefontaine A5 1951 Notebook - $12.99

Clairefontaiane Small 1951 Notebook - $3.00

These are really nice notebooks!  The cover is made from recycled paper, and the colors are really pretty.  The pages are lined, and seem thick enough that there wouldn't be any bleed through from a pen during use.

Here is the envelope I made, with a business card for scale, and an example of "calligraphy" (my writing definitely doesn't qualify as calligraphy, so I use this term loosely!) with the pen and ink.

Verdict:  This box was focused on Sustainable Stationery, and I think they did a great job with the theme.  All of the items are either recyclable or reusable (except the calligraphy practice sheets), and all of the items are things that any stationery buff would be super excited to receive.  I hesitate to do a value judgement on this box, because I don't have enough information about all of the items.  If you were to calculate this by cost per item, it would come out to about $6.00 an item.  I would definitely pay $6.00 for any of these, so I am absolutely happy with the value of this box.

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I really like the wooden template!! How often do you find that in a subscription box?! Pretty cool! And thanks for sharing your handwriting with us. I’m a lefty!

We really liked the retro pattern which is not available by Clairefontaine anymore. They are available in a variety of colours and will be posted on our Website Shop soon 🙂
