Love with Food is a monthly snack and food sampling subscription box.  They send only natural and organic snacks and donate a meal to charity for each box sold.  They offer a smaller “tasting” box with 8+ snacks per month, a “deluxe” box with 16-20 snacks per month, and a gluten free box with 10-15 gluten free snacks per month.  This is a review of the deluxe box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Cost: $9.99 a month for the “tasting” box, $19.95 a month for the “deluxe” box, and $24.99 a month for the gluten free box.  Save with longer subscriptions.

Each Love with Food box comes with a brochure listing all the products.  I really like that they list all the ingredients here and indicate which are vegan, gluten free, etc.

lovewithfood-april-2016-bars

Nature’s Bakery Raspberry Fig Bar (1 oz x 2) – Value $1.24

These are like Raspberry Newtons only much, much better.  I’ve had a lot of Nature’s Bakery snacks from subscription boxes and I pretty much like all of them.

Nutryttiva Banana Bar (1.06 oz x 2) – Value $2

I’ve had these quite a few times from Vegan Cuts (I think).  They do taste like banana although it’s a bit more satisfying to eat a real banana.  (On the other hand, these have a much longer shelf life…)

Bali’s Best Tea Candy in Green Tea Latte (3 candies) – Value $0.36

There are usually a few small candies in a Love with Food box.  These are new to me and they were fun to try, although I am not usually a fan of tea flavors with sugar and milk.

Pasta Chips in Rosemary (1 oz) – Value $0.90

Pasta Chips are a food subscription box staple.  I’ve never actually seen them in a store but I will happily eat them when they come.  They are more like crackers to me (just made from semolina flour instead of regular wheat flour).  This is a new flavor that isn’t available to buy yet so I’ve just listed a price from other flavors.

Rhythm Superfoods Roasted Kale in Smoky Bacon (0.75 oz) – Value $5.77 (?)

These are vegan so there’s no actual bacon in them!  To me, they mostly tasted like barbecue potato chips (which is a good thing).  Like most kale chips, they are super low in calories, which is also nice.  I can’t find these on the Rhythm Superfoods site or the Love with Food shop so I guess they are another new flavor.  I took the price from an Amazon listing of their kale chips which I assume have a similar value.

Laiki Black Rice Crackers (0.74 oz x 2) – Value $2.50

I’ve had these before and I like them.  They remind me a bit of Bugles in terms of texture.

Boulder Canyon Coconut Oil Kettle Cooked Potato Chips in Sea Salt (1.25 oz x 2) – Value $1.73

I should preface this by saying I never buy potato chips.  So of course I thought these were delicious.  They did not taste like potato chips cooked in sunflower or safflower oil, but neither did they have a strong coconut flavor.

Skeeter Shortbread Mini Cookies (1 oz) – Value $0.77

Skeeter Double Chocolate Mini Cookies (1 oz) – Value $0.77

I’m not the biggest fan of packaged cookies but these were all right.  Love with Food usually includes a few allergy-friendly treats and these were nut free.

Honey Stinger Organic Salted Caramel Waffle (1 oz x 2) – Value $1.88

I loved these.  I’ve had another flavor of these before.  The texture is perfect – they just melt in your mouth.  And they are like pure sugar to me.  One of my favorite items from the box.

Every box comes with some coupons and/or product literature.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $18 for the April 2016 Love with Food Deluxe Box.  This is slightly under the cost of the subscription but not so unusual for a Love with Food box.  I was happy this month because I liked most of the items.  And one reason I subscribed to Love with Food was so I’d have snacks to split with my husband.  There were a lot of duplicates this month so he could take one to work and I could take the other – this actually made me happy even though it comes at the cost of variety.  Also don’t forget there are a lot of deals for subscriptions and you can review the items for points that can be redeemed in the Love with Food shop, so that makes the subscription a little bit better of a deal.

I can’t get behind food subs that barely equal the cost and offer things that I can mostly find at Whole Foods or the local co-op.

Most food subs end up being close to the cost (RawBox is the one exception). The thing I like is, you can try things in individual servings that you might not want to spend $5 or $10 on without having sampled first, or might not have paid the least bit of attention to on the store shelves. (Never take food from the free sample containers at Whole Foods. I learned this the day I had a horrible cough and reached for something, then stopped myself. And wondered how many people DIDN’T stop themselves…and I was never tempted again.)

Plus, you can review these items for points which you can use on items in their shop. And unlike with Birchbox, you can review Love with Food items months and months later. And they usually have good deals/coupons/vouchers on flash sale sites that bring down the price somewhat.

Ugh I loved the Skeeter cookies, they were amazing and gone within seconds. The Rosemary Pasta Chips were awesome too.
