Hamptons-April-2016-Booklet

April’s theme is “Pizza.”

Hamptons-April-2016-Info1

Hamptons Lane includes a booklet that details all of the items included in the box.

Hamptons-April-2016-Info2

The booklet also provides recipes and cooking tips.

Hamptons-April-2016-Peel1

Epicurean Pizza Peel- $30

Epicurean Pizza Cutter- $20

Epicurean products are made using 100% wood fiber (the same stuff used in skate parks), an incredibly durable material that’s dishwasher and high-heat safe.

Hamptons-April-2016-Peel2

The pizza cutter is engineered to be skin-safe but still sharp enough to cut through pizza crust.

Hamptons-April-2016-Peel3

The peel can be used to remove hot pizza from the oven, and there’s no need to transfer the pizza before serving- you can slice directly on the wood fiber.

Hamptons-April-2016-Flour

Antimo Caputo 00 Flour (2.2 lb.)- $7.54

Tipo 00 flour “is finely milled, high-protein flour with a powdery texture.” It’s often difficult to find in the US, but it’s widely regarded as the best flour to use for making Neapolitan-style pizza dough.

Hamptons-April-2016-Sauce

Scarpetta Pizza Sauce (15.8 oz.)- $10

Scarpetta uses only tomatoes, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fresh organic oregano, and salt & pepper in their “fresh from the garden” pizza sauce. It’s gluten free and contains no preservatives.

Hamptons-April-2016-Packets

Italian Seasoning from RawSpiceBar- $6

Red Star Active Dry Yeast- $0.45

Hamptons Lane included a packet of yeast in this box, as well as a custom Italian spice blend from RawSpiceBar. The spice blend is a mix of garlic, black pepper, sun dried tomato, onion, oregano, basil, cayenne pepper, fennel, rosemary, and thyme.

Hamptons-April-2016-Recipes1

I would eat pizza every single day if I could, so I jumped at the opportunity to try out one of Hamptons Lane’s pizza recipes! (These recipes can be found on the Hamptons Lane Website.)

Hamptons-April-2016-PizzaDough

I began by making pizza dough! The recipe was provided by Roberta’s Pizza in Brooklyn, New York and it incorporates both Typico 00 and all purpose flour.

Hamptons-April-2016-Pizza1

When the dough was proofed and ready, I stretched it out by hand and constructed my pie.

Hamptons-April-2016-Pizza2

Hamptons Lane had some excellent recipe inspiration for this box, and (after drooling over all of their suggestions for toppings) I decided to top my pizza with Scarpetta sauce, mozzarella, fresh basil, green olives, and salami.

Hamptons-April-2016-Pizza3

I turned up my oven as hot as it would go, and baked the pizza until the cheese started to brown and bubble, about 13 minutes.

Hamptons-April-2016-Pizza4

I waited for the pizza to cool slightly, and then cut it using the Epicurean wood fiber cutter. I’m pleased to report that it worked like a charm!

Hamptons-April-2016-Pizza5

I finished the pizza with some black pepper and a sprinkle of the Italian seasoning, and it was SO GOOD. The seasoning had a nice, surprising kick of heat, and I really enjoyed the Scarpetta sauce. I also really liked the pizza crust recipe. It had an excellent, chewy texture- the recipe is definitely a keeper!

Verdict: I love everything to do with pizza, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this month’s Hamptons Lane box. The sauce and Italian seasoning are both delicious, quality items, and I’ll definitely put the pizza peel and cutter to good use. I do have to say that I found the addition of yeast to be a little odd. (I don’t usually expect to see inexpensive and easy to find grocery store items in a Hamptons Lane box.) The box also felt a little lighter than usual, but the value is definitely there. The retail value of the items in this box comes in at just over $74, which is great considering the $47 cost of the box.

This looks amazing! I want to sign up but I can’t figure out where you’re supposed to provide the coupon code? How does that work?

I wish I could post a pic of my pizza, as it turned out sooooo well! I love, love, love this sub – it’s my hands down favorite. I can’t wait to learn about next month’s box! I bought a pizza stone from Amazon and had a great date night with my main squeeze. So fun!

I find it weird they didn’t include a pizza stone! So necessary when making pizzas!

Would it be considered normal that my Hamptons Lane hasn’t shipped this month yet? I placed my order on thr 1st or 2nd and it’s been saying it’s processing since… :-\

Hi Britney,

I received a tracking # on the 14th and no movement ever since, only label created. I contacted them 5-6 times with only 2 answers: 1) we will look into it and 2) we will reimburse you. Not happy at all with them. I don’t even know if I will get the box or not.
Try contacting them and hopefully you will get better customer service.

Hi Britney,

Just an FYI- I didn’t receive this box until Thursday, so I think Hamptons Lane might be running behind this month. That said, if your box hasn’t yet shipped, I’d recommend reaching out to their customer service. Hope you get your box soon!

Hi, Lindsey, as a baker you probably have a great oven? For those of us with basic ovens, to get that great slightly charred but chewy Neapolitan crust, I guess flipping up the heat to 500 degrees and the use of a Pizza stone is the best way to go? I am going to get ambitious and try my outdoor grill one day. Anyway, it looks delicious and even though it is early in the AM, I could absolutely tuck into that pie without a second thought! Thanks for the review.

Hi nursermk! I think the secret to great pizza crust at home is a SUPER hot oven. I usually turn mine up as far as it will go and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before putting in the pizza to make sure it’s as hot as possible. I don’t usually use a pizza stone, but I know a lot of people swear by them. 🙂

I jumped at this one too– we make pizza every Friday in the winter. Even though I have several pizza cutters and a pizza peel, these seemed so cool that I wanted to try them.

I have to say I’m a bit disappointed. The peel is VERY small, much smaller than a regular buy-at-amazon peel… too small to hold a pizza that feeds a teenaged boy. The cutter works, but nothing special. The sauce is delicious! But the sample sized packets of seasoning and yeast made me feel like it was birchbox.

Verdict: Yes I used everything but it felt a bit cheap to me.

Your pizza looks beautiful! I don’t think I’ve ever managed to make a round pizza, they always end up some wonky oblong shape, tasty, but not pretty.

Katie

Your pizza looks tastier than the one on the cover of Hamptons Lane. This subscription box looks fantastic. I need to wait till some of my other boxes are done.
