RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - BOX

Rent The Runway
3.7 overall rating
7 Ratings | 3 Reviews

Rent the Runway has begun their new Unlimited subscription! (I believe there still is a waitlist, but they recently opened it up). It’s a designer rental service – think Le Tote, but higher-end. You pay a monthly fee and as long as you’re subscribed you can rent up to three items of designer clothing and accessories, and can swap out any of or all three items at a time for new ones. However many items you send back is how many new items you will be sent next. There is no “keeping items to buy them,” like Le Tote does; if you want to buy an item, you checkout online and get 30% off. (Rent the Runway takes care of dry cleaning.)

The items come in a zip-up, fold-out garment bag on hangers, which are yours to keep. Also inside, in a zipper pocket, is your return shipping label and a little plastic lock to loop into the zippers when you ship things back.

RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - items 1

Trina Turk Arlo Top – Retail: $298 ($150 a la carte rental)

This top is so glam! I like it a lot, I just wish it was a little bit longer.

RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - items 2

Equipment Crystal Sweater – retail: $398 ($60 a la carte rental)

The quality of this sweater really impresses me. I didn’t feel like any of the sequins were going to fall off, the sequins went around front and back, and the lining was really super soft (you don’t feel scratched by the sequins at all). It was really comfortable and fit great!

10 CROSBY DEREK LAM Navy Moto Jacket – retail: $1,295 ($175 a la carte rental)

We got a lot of snow this past month so I was really happy to have this! It fit really well and as very good quality. It definitely kept me warm. The fur collar is detachable too (but it’s so much warmer on!).

Now for my second delivery this month!

RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - ITEMS 5

Free People Bold Geo Sweater Coat – retail: $298 ($65 a la carte rental)

I should have sized down in this coat – it’s really thick, comfortable, and warm, but it because it was a smidge too big it kind of feels like it’s falling off my shoulders a little bit. The length was great and very warm!

RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - items 6

Equipment Floral Sleeveless Button Down – retail: $228 ($40 a la carte rental)

I adore this top. It’s so pretty, light, Spring-y, and I love the pattern. The white wasn’t see-through, either, which I’m really glad about. This is one of my favorite things I’ve ever ordered from RTR.

RENT THE RUNWAY FEB 2016 - items 7

Bailey 44 Mia Dress – retail: $198 ($55 a la carte rental)

Love this dress! It fits great even though it didn’t have a zipper – it was a pull-on dress! The material is really thick and I think it was a really flattering look. Again, one of my favorite items from RTR so far!

Verdict: I’m really enjoyed this month’s Rent the Runway deliveries! It’s expensive, but you have to keep in mind the value you’re getting from it – I think, practically, this is a subscription perfect for people who either already spend a lot on designer clothes each month, and/or have a lot of black tie/formal events to attend, or like to have an ever-changing wardrobe an never wear the same thing twice!

I have rent the runway unlimited after using traditional RTR and I love the clothes! I mean most clothes you don’t wanna wear next season if you’re a fashionista because new things are in, out ect. That being said the website you have to use to pick out stuff & you pick everything the send you is cumbersome and time consuming to use.

To the the lady who said she could buy 3 outfits per months of equal value on sites like Nordstrom unless she is truly reselling all of them which I for on do not have time for I don’t know if that is possible for $130 if you want on trend stuff.

What would happend if u lost an item, like a coat, or something is stolen or damaged?

Um I love RTRs selection but if you are late to return regular rent the runway stuff it will cost you! With the subscription it just stops future garments from coming until you send the old ones back. I was two weeks late returning a couple of regular rent the runway garments I took on a vacation I know dumb of me but it cost me an extra $400 for the late fees which they would not refund! Minor damage is covered via insurance & there is optional extra insurance that you should get because some of the gowns I’ve worn and loved retail for thousands of dollars. Rent the Runway is great but it is not for people on a really tight budget-they should stick with Le Tote or just buying cheap dresses online or something.

Do you fill out a questionnaire beforehand about the materials that the items are made from or any other preferences you may have? Although the jacket looked great on you, fur would be a definite no-no for me. Even though you noted the collar was detachable, I avoid fur like the plague. However, I totally agree with you about the floral top. It’s nice to see such bright, pretty colors coming into season! Thanks for modeling for us again!!!

No but you pick all the items they send it is not a surprise service so it can be a little like online shopping. In the description of the garment it will say fur, wool etc. and you can just not choose the garments with things you don’t like 🙂

The pieces are nice, and look great on you. I particularly like the Bailey 44 Mia dress on you, and love the Free People cardi, it looks fab on you as far as style and color, and yes a size down would be a perfect fit. Adore the 10 Crosby Derek Lam jacket Moto jacket, it also looks wonderful on you. If I’d purchase anything, that would be it.

I don’t shop here because of the rental $. I could pay the same or less for new at places like Gilt, Nordstrom Rack, and My Habit, then sell items I’m ready to get rid of on any the multiple auction, trade, and/or sell websites.

I agree with you, if I could afford to never wear the same outfit twice, (I’d need a therapist too, because I get attached to certain pieces, lol) or if I attended a large number of formal events, as those are typically one time wear garments, I would sign up in a minute.

I’ve stalked them for years and had a free 6 month membership once, I think it was before the name changed, to pick up deals on end of season used items, but still found I could purchase the same pieces new for equal or less than their asking prices.

So, yeah, I’m too cheap to rent, but love the quality and variety they offer. As I mentioned, they’ve been around for years and certainly fill a niche. Can’t wait to see the next review and fashion show!
