PetPack is a monthly subscription box for dogs or cats.  Expect to receive treats, toys, and other useful supplies.  If you choose a six-month subscription, you can customize your box to suit your pet’s needs (no catnip, etc.).  PetPack donates 10% of their proceeds to shelters, rescues, and pet organizations.

PetPack provided us with this box at no charge for a review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The box included an information card with a list of items and a monthly message.

petpackcat-march-2016-petstages

Petstages Fresh Breath Mint Stick – Value $2.39

Petstages Plaque Away Pretzel – Value $2.39

These are both dental treats.  Cats are supposed to be enticed to chew on them and they are supposed to help the cats’ breath and to remove plaque.  I am crossing my fingers Mr. Kitty will chew on these a lot because he has dental issues (but his IBD medications make it a bad idea for him to have a dental cleaning under anesthesia).

Ack, Monkey!  Let’s try that again.

petpackcat-march-2016-popcorn

Polydactyl Cats Popcorn Square – Value $4.99

I didn’t realize it at first but you are supposed to remove the bag.  There is an unbagged photo of this (with a cat) below, though.  I have seen these in cat boxes before.  Polydactyl Cats has a lot of cute food-inspired cat toys.

Waggers My Little Lion Cat Treats in Chicken (2.65 oz) – Value $3.14

These were popular – even Monkey ate one and he is usually not interested in treats.  They are what I would call semi-moist in terms of texture and they are made in the USA.

I (Heart) Pet Head Fizzy Kitty Mousse Cat Cleaner (6.7 fl oz) – Value $3.78

The price quoted above is a sale price (more than $5 off regular price).  This is a no-wash sort of shampoo, where you spray it on the cat, rub it in a bit, and wipe it off.  I was in need of something like this, actually, for the days when Mr. Kitty smells a little or if (God forbid) Madison ever needs a bath.  So this product is a win.

And now for what you’ve all been waiting for…

Madison was not in the mood for photos.  But I can usually get him to show himself for treats.

Monkey investigates the pretzel.

Sneaky bites the mint toy.

Mr. Kitty was having a good old time with the popcorn toy (here it is out of the bag).  He was rolling all over it.  Since he is an almost-12-year-old cat, I was really happy to see him having so much fun with a toy.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $17 for the February 2016 PetPack for cats.   Even if you add the extra $5 from the MSRP of the cat shampoo, that is quite a bit below the cost of the box plus shipping.  I know there weren’t any items missing because I received everything listed on the information card.  Although I liked each item, I would have to see an increase in value before I can recommend this subscription.

Hi Ragan,

Like the swapper mentioned above I don’t have a cat either but I also read the review to cat boxes too. To see what toys and treats are available for cats and to get a glimpse of your adorable cat-pack! I thought that I had written a comment similar to this yesterday, but I think it got lost that’s why I’m writing this comment. Hopefully, I will be able to adopt a cat within the next year. I liked the pic of the treats that shows Monkey sniffing the treats. He’s curious and the smell intrigues him. I really like the pics of your Calico cat and orange/golden cat rolling on the floor. About those pics you said, “I didn’t pose them like this to model”. Wow, and your 12 year old guy doesn’t look like it at all. Thank you for sharing your pets.

I’ll probably never buy this, but I will always read your reviews, simply because I love your cats. And that last one with Mr. Kitty is so adorable! But seriously, the value isn’t there for the price. I’d rather go out and buy some, or none, of the products individually.

I subscribe for the Cat Pack and have looked into the value myself. This pack as valued higher than the value here from what I found. This value provided looks like when items are on sale for various sites. But the actual value of the items included was $29. This company has great products and I love our subscription

I feel that the purpose of including values is to show what kind of deal you are getting for the box versus buying the items individually. If you can buy the items individually for less, even if the prices are sale prices, that is what the value is. That is why I included links to the items — those are the sites where you get the prices I have listed. MSRP is kind of a loose suggestion these days, especially with the rise of Amazon. (Also, don’t trust values printed on information cards. Those are often inflated.)

As I was reading through the post I was really getting excited by the products and thinking I would subscribe. But low value of the items relative to the cost of the box is crazy. Too bad…
