Loot-Anime-Feb-2016-Info

Even though I received mine in March, this is definitely the February box. It seems like the boxes are sent at the end of the month. I would keep that in mind if you're thinking of subscribing.

Each info sheet is printed on the back of a full-color poster. I appreciate the effort they put into the sheet as well as the art poster. This month's theme is "Haunted."

EXCLUSIVE RWBY T-Shirt - $12?

I'm a fan of black shirts so this automatically gets a thumbs up. RWBY is actually an American animated series in the artistic style of traditional anime. The show is set in a world where monsters roam and mankind has found a way to combat them by using a material called Dust. RWBY is the name of a team of young women who are training to become huntresses to fight these monsters. Ruby, the team captain, is depicted on the t-shirt with her scythe. It's a simple, clean print -- I prefer minimal use of colors over vibrant designs.

RWBY Field Notes Memo Books - $7?

The cover is so beautiful! This is a two-pack of 48-page memo books. They're very portable, about the size of my hand. I'll be using these to jot down notes or to-do lists.

There's also a bookmark for Rooster Teeth, the company that created RWBY.

Noragami: Stray God Volume 1 - $7.26

I'm always a happy camper if manga shows up in a box. Noragami is an action/comedy series about a small god, Yato, who wants to make himself better known to humans. In order to raise funds to build a shrine, he sets up a service to help people in need for a small fee. The story revolves around Yato and his companions' adventures together.

I used to buy manga from Borders before the bookstore chain shut down. Now I may start a collection again just through Loot Anime. Just like last month, this is an exclusive printing.

Soul Eater Patch - $3?

I think this is an iron-on patch. It is a logo from Soul Eater. Soul Eater follows three student "meisters" and their demon weapons -- humans who can transform into weapons with unique powers -- who fight against corrupted humans and witches by consuming their souls. When an ancient foe returns to power, they must navigate difficult battles and uncover the hidden pasts of meisters, demon weapons, witches, and their own academy.

EXCLUSIVE Haunted Phone Charm - $2?

This is the monthly Loot Anime phone charm, shaped like a nefarious-looking mirror. The info sheet says that "according to folklore, mirrors are portals to the spirit realm." Hence the reference to the Haunted theme. I like that the charm is on a lobster clasp so I can easily put it on a keychain.

EXCLUSIVE Oni Bandana Mask - $10?

February was the month of the Setsubun Festival in Japan. In honor of Setsubun is an oni (demon/devil) bandana mask to scare off evil spirits and cleanse for the lunar new year. You can fold the bandana in half and wear the mouth half like a mask. I tried this out but my face wasn't large enough to have the same spooky effect. Nevertheless, a cool addition to the box.

EXCLUSIVE Tokyo Ghoul Shot Glasses - $10?

I really like the ombre effect of these two shot glasses. The glass is of sturdy quality and I like the simplicity of both designs. Tokyo Ghoul is a supernatural series set in an alternate universe where human-eating ghouls live and hide amongst human beings. Ken, the main protagonist, is turned into a half-human, half-ghoul after almost getting killed by his date who turned out to be a ghoul in disguise. Now he must learn to survive and integrate into both societies.

Glico Hot Chili Salad Flavored Pretz - $1.28

The words "hot chili salad" had me running for the hills until I tried it. It's nowhere close to anything hot or chili. The sticks are Pocky sized and they taste more like flavored ramen. They're good! I need to try the other savory flavors now.

Verdict: I'm pleased with this month's Loot Anime. At first I thought the Haunted theme would involve horror or thriller anime/manga. Thankfully, that wasn't totally the case. I estimated the retail value to be $52.54, where the highest value item was the t-shirt. My favorite is the Noragami manga. The shot glasses are a close second. Overall, I like that the value is mostly distributed among different items instead of one big-ticket item. That way, if you don't like a particular anime/manga, the other items may still make up for it.

I like that many items are not only pretty but functional, like shot glasses and bandanas. If you're looking for a monthly box of figurines or collectibles, this may not be the right subscription for you. But, if you want exclusive items that you can use or wear to show off your otaku status, then Loot Anime is a great option.

Wished it was the little RWBY figure they had instead.

If they guaranteed a manga book in every box, I’d subscribe, but there’s too much filler stuff each month without. I have more keychains and patches and shot glasses than I can count sitting in an old box somewhere.

This box looks great- I like how detailed the review is. I’ll be totally new to this kind of thing (anime/manga) & am hoping I’ll like it! Norigami sounds cool & I like that RWBY has strong female characters.

Also, the box can be unfolded and turned inside out to transform into a haunted house! I thought this was very cool! 🙂

I LOVE RWBY so much not only because Rooster Teeth is one of the best youtube channels around, but because it is a seriously good anime! And it’s VERY easy to watch – all episodes are on the Rooster Teeth channel!
