Hamptons-February-2016-Booklet

February’s theme is Taste of Thailand. Typically, Hamptons Lane boxes ship mid-late month; however, the woks in this month’s box were delayed, so the February box didn’t ship out until March.

FYI – if you are interested in this box, it is still available as of today if you sign up for a subscription.

Hamptons-February-2016-Info1

Hamptons Lane includes a booklet that details all of the items included in the box. The booklet also provides recipes and cooking tips.

Hamptons-February-2016-Wok1

Hand-Hammered Carbon Steel Wok - $35

This wok was custom made for Hamptons Lane by “an esteemed metal manufacturer in China,” so I’ve taken the value from the Hampton’s Lane website. The wok is 14” and has a wooden handle. It’s absolutely gorgeous- definitely worth waiting for!

Hamptons-February-2016-Wok2

It’s important to note, however, that this wok is not recommended for use on electric ranges. In response to customer feedback about this limitation, Hamptons Lane offered subscribers the option to upgrade to a flat-bottomed wok for an additional $2. (Note: this upgrade was offered only to current subscribers, not new subscribers. More information can be found here.)

Hamptons-February-2016-Info3

Before using the wok for cooking, it’s necessary to season it. Hamptons Lane provided instructions for how to do this in the month’s booklet.

Hamptons-February-2016-Ring

Wok Ring- $8

Wok rings are used to stabilize round-bottomed woks when they’re in use or being stored. My gas range came with a cast-iron wok ring, but I think this will still come in handy for storage.

(Note: subscribers who upgraded to a flat-bottomed wok did not receive this item.)

Hamptons-February-2016-PeanutSauce

Jade Sichuan Peanut Sauce by TLA Pacific Kitchen Inc.- $12.95

This award-winning sauce is made from a blend of peanuts and spices, and it can be used to add flavor to a number of different Thai dishes. Hamptons Lane suggests using it to make Shrimp Pad Thai.

Hamptons-February-2016-Green

Thaifusions Green Curry Simmer Sauce- $16.95

Thaifusions’ Green Curry blends organic coconut milk, green chili peppers, spicy Thai basil, sweet cilantro, fresh Kaffir lime leaves, and more. Green curry is a favorite of mine, so I’m thrilled to see this in the box!

Hamptons-February-2016-Noodles

King Soba Organic Pad Thai Noodles- $3.99

These noodles are made with fair-trade organic brown rice and are wheat & gluten free.

Hamptons-February-2016-Fish

Red Boat Fish Sauce (250 ml.)- $9

I’ve used fish sauce numerous time in Asian cooking, but I never really knew much about it. Interestingly, fish sauce is a liquid that’s made by fermenting fish with sea salt. Red Boat’s Fish Sauce has a high protein content (a good thing!) and is made using chemical-free fermentation methods.

Hamptons-February-2016-Recipes1

Hamptons Lane always includes a number of recipes to accompany the items they send, and this month I decided to make Shrimp Pad Thai! (The recipe is also available on the Hamptons Lane Website.)

Hamptons-February-2016-PadThai1

The recipe utilized the noodles, fish sauce, and peanut sauce, and I was completely blown away by how well it turned out. I’ve never made Pad Thai at home before, and this recipe was fantastic. It might actually be the best Pad Thai I’ve ever had! I’m so impressed, and I’ll definitely be making this dish again soon!

Verdict: This box from Hamptons Lane was definitely worth waiting for. I love my new wok, and I had an incredible meal thanks to Hamptons Lane’s ingredients & recipes. Based on the prices I found online, the items included in this box total $86 retail, which is incredible. What a great box!

Ugh, now I’m sorry I passed on this box. The only reason I passed is that I’m allergic to two of the food items. I really, really want that wok now.

I made some tofu pad thai with my new wok and the Sichuan Peanut Sauce this past weekend. Very yummy! And I agree — the wok is excellent quality!
