BLUUM MARCH 2016 - BOX

Bluum
3.1 overall rating
24 Ratings | 12 Reviews

Bluum is a monthly subscription box for babies and toddlers. Their boxes are very customized – specific to the month of your child’s age. Also, they recently began allowing you to “build your own Bluum,” meaning you can even pick what products you’ll receive out of a very wide selection of items (one of my very favorite parts of this subscription!). However, subscribers can still skip choosing their items in order to still be surprised each month.

The box I’m reviewing is customized from my preferences and choices for my son, who was born this past September! Because of this, my box may look completely different than someone else’s box.

BLUUM MARCH 2016 - items 1

Love Child Organics Super Blends, Apples & Mangoes – value: $1.99

I love this brand of baby food. I love the reseal-able pouches and organic ingredients.

Fit & Fresh Fresh Starts Baby Food Prep Steamer – value: $8.99

This is handy, especially now that we are starting solids. It’s a little microwave steamer. Convenient!

Beddy-Bye Baby by Karen Katz – value: $7.99

I chose this book because I was looking for more books that will be good night time reads. This one has a little soft piece on all the teddy bears.

BLUUM MARCH 2016 - items 4

Zoe Organics Cream – 2 oz, value: $18

This is one of my very favorite organic product brands! I was thrilled to see them in Bluum Box! I immediately knew I was going to pick this cream. It’s waterless, so you know it’s a thick, very hydrating cream. And it’s completely unscented!

Verdict: I’m really happy with this month’s Bluum box. I was so happy to see that they’ve (FINALLY) added new inventory to their selection! Especially one of my favorite brands. I’ve already picked my April products, but I can tell you I picked about 4 times before finalizing because I want so many things now! I know that a slim-pickings selection is something many of you said you canceled over, but I think it’s worth browsing through again. As far as value goes, this month my box adds up to $36.97. That’s not much over the cost of the box, and it’s a lower value for this sub. However, since I go the route of choosing my products, I know I’m really happy with every single item, so I’m totally fine with it.

What do you think about Bluum? Do any of the newly-added products catch your attention when you browse their shop or item selection?

I had a terrible experience this month. I didn’t get anything I selected when I picked my own box. One item was out of stock so I picked something new which got be a box of cleaning products which is not so exciting for an 18 month old. Icing on the cake is that one of the bottles of cleaning supplies leaked and my box was delivered soaking wet. CS said they would be replacing my box so we shall see what I get. I miss citrus lane.

I just chose my fifth box on a 6 month subscription. The first couple boxes were fun and I enjoyed getting them. By the third box, I noticed that much of the selection is the same from month to month. This along with the fact that not every product is going to interest you, well by month 3, my options felt very limited. Like Sara, I have had a problem with products not being age-appropriate. My baby is almost a year old and most of the toys and books offered are for ages 3+! Bluum CS has given me different reasons (mostly excuses) for this, but the real reason is the one they gave me most recently, they simply Do Not Have Inventory. That is also why their product selection hardly changes.

I also used Groupon so each box cost me something like $15. So if each of my four products costs at least $4, then I am getting a deal. Even at such a low threshold, I am still hard up to get “value” out of my box. The retail value they list is much higher than what you would pay in the real world; for ex., most books I’ve price checked I will find on Amazon for about 50% off retail, so about $3-5. Not exactly a great discount (if at all) and with such limited inventory, for a book I would not otherwise buy. I will not be renewing my subscription.

The microwave steamer may be convenient but it’s a horrible idea to feed microwaved food to a baby or child. Just my opinion.

I got my first Bluum box of a 6 month sub. I went and picked my items early on to get a high value box. Then I opened my box and it only had 3 of the 4 items I picked. The highest value one was missing, a swaddle blanket, RV $18. Instead I got a $3 canister of compostable diaper wipes. I was very disappointed, I was really looking forward to the blanket. I emailed CS and they said they could add another item to my April box. But I’d already made my choices, so when I went to add something I lost all my original selections which sucked. I’m currently 6 months pregnant trying to stock up for a newborn. The selections they’ve been giving me are odd, few are great or age appropriate. Lots are for toddlers and older kids, it makes no sense. I like it because the box only cost me $12 with a Groupon and I get to pick my items.

I got my year long subscription for $19 a month on Black Friday and I love it! Since I always pick my products, I’ve never had a box that was less than $50 worth. My first month, my box was worth over $110! It was amazing! I can’t wait to get it each month.
