bathmatical-february-2016-bomb

Cherry Vanilla Soda Bath Truffles (3 ct, Bathmatical exclusive) – Value $6 (?)

For Bathmatical exclusives, if you want to purchase more, you have to contact Bathmatical.  (For non-exclusive items, you can get in touch with the artisans.)  So the value here is a guess based on skimming similar items on Etsy.  At any rate, these smell pretty awesome and the scent doesn’t irritate my skin, so I’m happy!

New Roux Soaps “Defunk” Bath Bomb – Value $3

This came partially crushed but I was able to save it in a Ziplock baggie.  It is scented with lavender, chamomile, and ylang ylang (all of which I like, and the blend is great) and is supposed to be good for relaxation. I am saving it for a day when I really need a little extra relaxation time.  New Roux Soaps is based in Louisiana.

bathmatical-february-2016-facewash

Bluegrass Oils Lavender Face Wash (8 fl oz) – Value $9.99

This face wash is organic, vegan, and cruelty-free.  The primary cleansing ingredient is liquid castile soap, which is a natural alternative to detergents.  I tend to prefer unscented facial care products, and this would take me forever to use up as a face wash, so I am thinking about using it as a body wash instead.  I shower at night so the lavender scent will be soothing, plus I have had great luck with castile soaps in the past.  Also my body skin tends to get drier than my face and this is supposed to be great for dry skin.

bathmatical-february-2016-soapsalt

Sweet Harvest Homestead Handcrafted Soap in Cantaloupe (4.5 oz) – Value $6?

Sweet Harvest Homestead doesn’t have an online shop so the value is based on similar items from Etsy.  It never would have occurred to me to make cantaloupe scented soap, but this is awesome.  It is such a perfect scent for soap.  It reminds me of really ripe, juicy cantaloupe.

Bath Salts in Beach Breeze (8 oz, Bathmatical exclusive) – Value $12?

This is another Bathmatical exclusive so the value is, once again, a guess.  This is made from salt collected in a part of the Mediterranean that is free of pollution.  It has jasmine and mandarin so it’s a little exotic, but I am getting the intended beachy vibe from this as well.  The bag is pretty hefty and I still have plenty left after one bath.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $37 for the March Bathmatical Box.  The information card gives a value of $42 so I am pretty close, I think, especially since many of the values for items were guesses.  At any rate, this is more than the cost of the box, plus there were a lot of items that are difficult to get ahold of online (and if you did find them, you’d probably have to pay shipping).  I had never heard of any of these artisans before and don’t know how I ever would have encountered them, so there’s some value in the curation as well, for sure.  Plus, I love taking long baths and this gave me an excuse to do that more often!

In theory I like the idea of this, but the contents not so much. Bar soaps in general aren’t great for skin, & – even more concerning – lavender is not only a skin irritant but actually causes damage/ death of skin cells on a microscopic level – even if it feels okay when used/ applied – so while it can be great as a scent (I love it) it should never be included in skincare…especially not on the face!!

I’m a subscriber to this box and was excited to see it being reviewed, but I will partially disagree with this comment simply because every box I’ve received has been different. It seems as though they only add bar soap every other month or so, which is nice because I can’t use that much soap in a month. While I will agree that some people have varied levels of sensitivity to certain things, I’ve never had any reactions to any of the items. But that’s just me. I’ve gotten three boxes so far and I’ve gotten an awesome sugar scrub (I think I will buy more of that one), a clay mask, multiple bath bombs, salts, a bubble bar, a great smelling body butter, and of course soap. If I get too much soap I will probably just give it to a friend or put it in the guest bath. I do like the mixture of full size products and one or two use items like bombs and salts. They seem to change things up each month so you aren’t getting the same things every month. I have, however, gotten bath salts every month but I like those and I run out by the time the next box arrives which is perfect. I like having a reason to take a bath now!

Looks like a fantastic box. I’d use everything except the bar soap. That said, I’d prefer if it were every other month or even quarterly. I just don’t take that many baths (love them but just don’t have the time!)

It’s informal but this is a blog, not an academic paper!
