yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-card1

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-card2

This was a pretty typical information card for a Yogi Surprise box.  A list of items and prices are included as well as a yoga sequence along the top of the card.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-balm

Daily Detox Essential Oil by Orglamix (0.33 fl oz) – Value $18

This is a good-sized rollerball bottle and contains lots of essential oils in a grapeseed oil carrier (you don’t want to use essential oils directly on the skin, in most cases).  It has a little bit of a medicinal/herbal thing going on, but I’ve put this down in my yoga room because I like to use essential oil products before yoga sessions.

Eucalyptus Mint Organic Lip Balm by Nurture My Body – Value $5.99

I love eucalyptus for when I have a cold.  And putting it on your lips is closer than putting menthol/eucalyptus rub on your chest.  It doesn’t really clear out my sinuses although it does tingle a bit.  I guess that’s the menthol?

Purity of Life Detox Tea by Seven Seas (? Amount) – Value $15

This is caffeinated (contains green tea and oolong) and contains lots of herbal extracts as well.  My fiancé tried this (I’m allergic to one of the ingredients) and said it tastes medicinal.  The value is from the information card because I have no idea how much is in the packet.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-bars

RawRev Glo Bars in Dark Chocolate Cashew and Mint (x2) – Value $3.33

Several different flavors of these were sent out.  My first box had a peanut butter and sea salt flavor but I got dark chocolate cashew and mint with the replacement.  Both were good and had a chewy, uniform texture that (thankfully) did not remind me at all of raw nuts.

All Day 2Go Packs by Nuun (4 tablets) – Value $2

These are effervescent tablets (like Alka Seltzer or denture cleaner) that you put in water.  They have a lot of B vitamins and minerals, so they help you hydrate without caffeine.  I tried one in my water bottle during a workout and I was a fan.  I think I’ve seen these at Whole Foods.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-bath

Rock Star Detox Bath Salts by Angel Face Botanicals (5 oz) – Value $10

These smell awesome.  I know because when I received the box in the mail a few weeks ago, the box smelled amazing before I even opened it.  As did my mailbox.  I shook the box and heard something loose all over the inside.  Come to find out, there was a big slash through this bag which had scattered the contents everywhere.  Yogi Surprise sent me a replacement so I did get to use it.  You can either steep the bath tea separately before bathing and pour the liquid into the tub, or put the bath tea (it comes with a bag) in the tub with you.

Black Bar Soap by SoapBox – Value $4.99

I love charcoal soaps so I was happy to see this.  It’s a coconut-oil based soap and it’s vegan, non-GMO, and free of gluten, parabens, sulfates, and petrochemicals.  Also, SoapBox gives a bar of soap to someone in need for every bar you purchase.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-bottles

Live Free Liver and Kidney Support by DetoxRx (1 fl oz) – Value $24

This appears to be homeopathic (there are dilutions listed on the back) so I have doubts about whether it will do much.  At any rate, I can’t try it because the first ingredient is milk thistle and if you are allergic to ragweed, you are not supposed to take milk thistle.  I will pass this along to someone else to use.

Purifying Toner by 3 Girls Holistic (1 fl oz) – Value $7.95

This has a super strong smell that kind of reminds me of eucalyptus.  Even though there is no eucalyptus in it.  It’s an alcohol free toner that has aloe (for moisture) and witch hazel, plus lots of essential oils.  I like to use alcohol free toners in winter so this comes along at a good time.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-powbab

Baobab Superfruit Chews by Powbab (2 chews) – Value $1.32

I’ve had these before and they’re pretty good – an especially nice way to get vitamin C if you feel like you’re getting a cold or something.  There were only 2 chews in each package, and I doubt they’re worth $2.50 each (which is what the information card seems to be saying).  But I do like them better than vitamin C lozenges.

Spruce Energizing Whole Greens by Eboost (1 bag) – Value $2.67

There were two packets of this pictured on the information card but I only got one in my initial box and one in my replacement box.  So I guess there was just supposed to be one.  This went in a smoothie, which is my favorite way to use powdered supplements of pretty much any kind.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-supplements

Global Greens by MRM (3.5 oz) – Value $11.49

I’ve been putting this in my smoothies in the morning.  I don’t really like to eat greens, so I especially appreciate products like this.  They don’t have a strong flavor, which is fine by me.

Daily Superfood Blend by Stamba (100 capsules) – Value $59

Wow, this is expensive.  But most superfood-containing supplements are.  This has camu camu, maca, cacao, mangosteen, acai, maqui, turmeric, ginger, yacon, several kinds of algae, and several kinds of mushroom.  This is the sort of thing where I am having a hard time telling whether it is doing anything yet.  But we will see.  (Note: You are supposed to take four of these every day!)

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-teeccino

Dandelion Herbal Coffee by Teeccino (2 bags) – Value $0.88

Teeccino is a coffee alternative.  I have had it before and enjoyed it, which means it probably doesn’t taste like coffee at all.  I prefer the type you put in a drip coffee maker, but these bags will certainly do.

yogisurpriserenewal-february-2016-literature

There was also a little bit of product literature for some of the items in the box.

Verdict: I calculated a value of almost $167 for the Yogi Surprise Limited Edition Renewal Box.  That is a bit less than the promised $190 value, but it is still more than twice the cost of the box.  While I couldn’t use every item (milk thistle is always an issue with “detox” type products), I did learn about a lot of new brands and I got to try a few things I would never have experienced otherwise.

I did have a couple of issues I wanted to briefly mention.  First off, the information card showed one product that was not in the box.  Yogi Surprise sent an email about this so it was not a surprise.  The information card also showed two packets of the Spruce Energizing Whole Greens but only one was in the box (the listed value on the card was about equal to one packet).  And finally, getting a replacement box (my original one had a damaged item) was like pulling teeth.  It took nearly three weeks.  While the Yogi Surprise folks were very responsive to emails, they told me the replacement went out on February 7 but it was postmarked February 22 (so almost two weeks later).

What do you think of the Yogi Surprise Limited Edition Renewal Box?  Did you get one?

Those Powbab chews are really good and so are the nuun tablets! I’m glad I got this box.

Thanks for the note about milk thistle! I never knew that you shouldn’t have it if you are allergic to ragweed. Now need to make sure I don’t accidentally have any!
