Everything had lovely Valentine’s Day packaging.  The outside of the box looked like it had gotten wet at some time (the bottom and one side were largely stained brown), but thankfully none of the contents were damaged.

Ships to: US (free!)

Good to know: You can skip months by logging into your online account

Check out other great natural foods boxes in the Food Subscription Box Directory!

The box came with a card with a Valentine’s Day greeting and a little more information about the types of items you can expect to see with this subscription.

sweetorganic-february-2016-bars

Nibmor Mint Drinking Chocolate (1.05 oz) – Value $1.95

I’ve had this before and enjoyed it (Nibmor makes some good chocolate bars, too).  It feels so decadent after drinking only Crio-Bru for a long time!  (And it’s better than the mint Crio-Bru…)

Pure Organic Chocolate Brownie Bar (1.7 oz) – Value $2.19

This did have enough chocolate to justify being called a “brownie” bar, although it’s a date bar.  Super high in sugar.  But the texture was not bad at all.

Nature’s Path Chunky Chocolate Peanut Chewy Granola Bar (1.2 oz) – Value $0.94

For a gluten free granola bar (made with GF oats), this was pretty good.  Neither the chocolate nor the peanuts overpowered the flavor, but you could definitely tell both were there.

sweetorganic-february-2016-coffee

Growers Alliance Coffee Ethiopian Roasted Whole Bean Coffee (12 oz) – Value $8.99

I am not a fan of coffee but my fiancé is.  I was going to let him have this to use in our French Press (the Mr. Coffee is exclusively for Crio-Bru…), but we don’t have a coffee grinder and this is whole bean coffee!  So, I have passed this on to one of the administrative assistants at work who is super into coffee and she was very happy with it.  If you are thinking of subscribing to this box, definitely get a coffee grinder. I’ve looked at reviews of past boxes and whole bean coffee seems somewhat common.

Go Organic Hard Candies in Cherry (3.5 oz) – Value $2.14

I don’t have hard candies too often so I associate cherry lozenges with cough drops.  But, these taste much better than cough drops!  And they don't have any artificial red colors.  Plus, each one is only 15 calories.

sweetorganic-february-2016-hearts

Surf Sweets Fruity Hearts x 5 (0.5 oz each) – Value $2

I almost never get to eat gummies because I’m a vegetarian and a lot of gummies contain gelatin.  But these are thickened with pectin (which comes from fruit), so I can have them.  Of course I thought they were delicious because I rarely get gummies.  They weren’t super tart or tangy.

Theo – My Cherry Baby Chocolate Bar (full size!) – Value $4

This was the first thing to disappear.  I am counting calories this year to lose weight and the evening I got the box, I had like 400 calories left over at the end of the day, so I split this with my fiancé (one half the bar was 220 calories and it was amazing – I love milk chocolate and the cherry pieces added some nice texture).

sweetorganic-february-2016-ocho

Ocho Peanut Butter Minis (3.38 oz) – Value $3.93

If there is anything I like better than milk chocolate, it is chocolate with peanut butter.  These were amazing.  I wish I could eat the whole bag at once.

Late July Mini Cheddar Cheese Sandwich Crackers (1.125 oz) – Value $0.90

This was the only non-sweet thing in the box (besides the coffee).  These were actually quite salty, but I like salty foods a lot.  The crackers on the outside of the sandwiches had the texture of a Ritz and amazingly, even with that big bag of coffee in there, the crackers didn’t get broken.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $27 for this month’s Sweet Organic Box.   Unfortunately, this is about $18 below the cost of the box for a month-to-month subscription.  Although I liked the items (everything I see in the Whole Foods checkout line but force myself not to buy!) and the Valentine’s Day theme, this really isn’t a competitive price-to-value ratio for a food subscription.  Even considering the fact that some of the prices I linked to were sale prices from Amazon and Vitacost, I would like to see either a decrease in price or an increase in the number of items in the box in the future.

What do you think of Sweet Organic Box?

I am totally intrigued with Crio Bru which you mentioned. Had never heard of it and am a chocolate lover. Is it like a hot chocolate or more like a coffee? Am considering trying some but I detest coffee. Thanks!

It is ground cocoa beans that you brew like coffee (so in a French press or coffee maker). There are several roasts (but I can’t really tell them apart) and also some flavored varieties (e.g., Pumpkin Spice, Mint, Maya which includes a bit of chili pepper).

It’s pretty bitter on its own but I add just a little skim milk and artificial sweetener and it’s kind of like drinking hot chocolate without a whole bunch of calories.

Thanks for your fast explanation. Glad I asked prior to purchasing.
