Included in the box were a few cards.  One was a standard information card and the other provided more information on this subscription’s earth-friendly packaging.

Zuke’s Skinny Bakes with Pumpkin and Sweet Potato (12 oz) – Value $5.99

One thing I should point out is that Petite Fours really works with you to provide food items that your dog can have, even if there are allergies involved.  The box I reviewed last month was more of a general box that you might get if your dog doesn’t have any dietary issues.  This month, the choices are geared towards dietary preferences I selected.  Anyway, these are vegan and free of wheat, corn, and soy, so theoretically Nyx can have them.  They’re also made in the USA!

Simply American Chews 7” Bully Sticks (x 2) – Value $7.98

We selected beef as a protein because Nyx has had good luck with it in the past.  Bully sticks are a good choice for dogs who can have beef, since they only have one ingredient.  These are also USA-made.

Zuke’s Z-Filets Grilled Beef Recipe (3.25 oz) – Value $5.19

If you’re starting to wonder about repetition of brands and protein sources in this box, I have to give Petite Fours credit.  Nyx’s dietary intolerances are super hard to work with.  And honestly, they are doing a good job so far.  These are grain free and made in the US.

Cloud Star Dynamo Dog Functional Treats with Pumpkin and Ginger Soft Chews (5 oz) – Value $4.86

Again grain free and made in the USA, both of which are awesome for Nyx.  These are a bit softer than the other treats in this box and are supposed to support digestive health.  Which Nyx surely needs.  She is currently on 29 pills a day (4 for pain, 2 for her joints, 5 for urinary tract issues, and the other 18 for her IBD).

There weren’t any toys in this box so here is a gratuitous photo of Nyx from when she was about one year old.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $24 for the February 2016 Petite Fours box.  That is a little bit less than the cost of a subscription plus shipping, but I am placing a lot of value in the customization since my dog has so many health issues.  That can’t be easy for a dog subscription company to deal with.  If you get a longer subscription, the value is a little better, too.

There so many times I want to buy something for Jack – but his allergies make everything so prohibitive.

And seeing what you have to do for Nyx – how specific where you able to get on your allergy “avoid list” request?

For example, Jack is allergic to chicken, turkey, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, etc. you can tell that I am label reading everything for him. But he’s my baby, so it’s totally worth it

It’s been a month or two since I filled out the survey so my memory is a bit hazy. There were definitely choices for proteins to avoid. I seem to remember there also being a field where you could type a note.

Ragan, just a word of caution because of Nyx’s IBD- I gave my dogs the Z filets and they don’t have any intestinal problems.. But it gave them HORRIBLE gas and diarrhea. It might be just the bag I got at the store or just my dogs’ bellies that day but I wanted to give you a heads up because I know Nyx has so many problems.

Thanks for the warning. I have had really good luck with Zuke’s cat treats and my cats but I will be careful before giving those to Nyx.

I don’t normally chime in on the comments sections, but I just wanted to chime in and say that I love reading your dog box reviews, they are my favorite! Mainly because it is so evident how much you love your baby and I wish more pet owners where like yourself! Sadly, a shocking amount of people with pets that found they would have to pay for 29 pills every day would be off to the nearest shelter, and it is SO refreshing to see someone who not only sticks by your fur baby (they are FAMILY afterall, RIGHT?) but spoils the crap out of her. I have 2 fur babies of my own and I could no sooner abandon them than I could my own children…no matter what. I applaud you and Nyx is lucky to have you, as I’m sure…most days ;)…you feel the same about her!

I’m chiming in to say I totally agree with Apple87. Pets with medical needs fill our local rescue where I volunteer on behalf of another charity (pairing veterans with shelter dogs to be trained as service/therapy dogs), many of whom have been deemed “unadoptable” because of their medical conditions and/or senior status. Having taken in more than a few who no one wanted I know how much effort goes into caring for these pups (and kitties, too). It takes a special heart to welcome them into your family and give them the very best you have to offer. Even after years working at the rescue I still come home in tears at least once a week because I want to take them all home with me. Here’s to all the adoptive pet parents who provide love and care to the forgotten ones.

I seem to have the worst luck, too. One of my cats died from IBD complications in 2012 (literally no medication or treatment we tried did anything, not even a feeding tube). Then Mr. Kitty was diagnosed with IBD, which we have managed for about three years although he is having eye problems lately. Then Nyx’s issues. Plus Sneaky has asthma (seasonal only) and Monkey has a few weird problems (lower urinary tract disease and occasional allergy issues). My last dog required a hip replacement before she was 2. I think only Madison is fine. I could buy a new car every year with the amount I spend on vet bills, medications, and prescription food…but my pets are like children to me (I don’t have or want kids) and they are worth it.

I don’t have a dog, I totally read these reviews for the pictures of Nyx. So, thank you for adding one!
