gymbag-february-2016-cards2

There wasn’t a traditional information card listing the items, but there was some literature included.  One card had a fitness quote and a list of training tracks for the month.  Presumably you have to download these for yourself because there was not (that I could tell) a code for getting them.  Unless it is in your account and I just don’t see it because I’m not a regular subscriber?

gymbag-february-2016-chips

Quest Protein Chips in Salt and Vinegar (32 g) – Value $2.09

One bag of these has 21 grams of protein.  It’s whey protein, again.  I think these are not my favorite protein chips (my favorites are still the Ips ones), there’s just something about the base flavor that’s not quite right for me.  The salt and vinegar flavor was not bad, though.  It does amaze me how these high protein foods never have any fiber in them…

Whey Clean Bottle Cleaner (2 packets) – Value $1.50

At first I thought these were some kind of protein powder, but they’re actually little packets of detergent for cleaning your shaker bottle.  This is a cool idea since a lot of shaker bottles are not safe to run through the dishwasher on heated dry (or maybe you want to wash it more often than you run the dishwasher).

gymbag-february-2016-cookies

The Protein Cookie Co. Dark Cocoa Chocolate Chip (2.5 oz) – Value $3.50

The Protein Cookie Co. Classic Chocolate Chip (2.5 oz) – Value $3.50

These cookies have 18 grams of protein apiece.  They taste good for protein cookies and are not too high in sugar,  but wow, do they ever stick to your teeth.  The protein is from whey and these also contain egg, so definitely not for vegans.

Gym Bag Rubber Bracelet – Promotional Sample

It’s hard to see here, but this has a logo on it.  Free advertising, I guess.

Ape Athletics Baseball Cap – Value $27.99

Well, if you are going to have apparel in a box like this, it’s tricky because people are different sizes.  A baseball cap is generic enough that most people will be able to use it.  I actually did own one baseball cap before (it came free when I ordered P90X3 a few years back) and I use it to take Nyx out in the rain but keep the water off my glasses.  That one is not looking so good, so I will replace it with this one.

gymbag-february-2016-poster

Custom Ape Athletics Poster – Value $10 (?)

I have to admit, this poster didn’t sit right with me.  It has all these buff guys and then two women in bikinis who are practically making out with each other.  The message I’m getting from it is that only men lift weights and women exist primarily as eye candy for the men.  This is so not true I don’t even know where to begin.  Also, for what it’s worth, this was just kind of rolled up in the box and it got smashed by the other items in transit.

UPDATE: GymBag has let us know that the following item was missing from this box:

LMNITRIX Veinz Vasodilator Sports Nutritional Booster, 120 Count, Retail Value $31.55 (on Amazon)

With this item added, the total retail value of the box is $80

Verdict:  I calculated a value of about $49 for February’s GymBag.  That does not really come close to the $80+ promised value in each box and it’s also somewhat lower than the subscription + shipping price.  I’m also not sure how I feel about the major item in terms of cost being a baseball cap – if it’s not for you, then the value of the box is considerably lower.  Also, the value of the poster was a total guess.  I’d like to see a few more items in the box, I think.  Perhaps if there were download codes for the playlist and/or a discount offer to the Ape Athletics site, the value could be improved.

On another note, this box seems really geared towards men.  I don’t know if this was just an unusual month or if the box is like this every month.   But the poster was sexist and Ape Athletics doesn’t actually offer any clothing items for women.

What did you think of the February GymBag box?  Do you get any fitness subscriptions?

The only box worst that this would be the Oprah box because that one costs more but I still think this one is probably the worst.

Wow. This is really, epically awful!!!!!!

This has to be missing something….right?!?!

Ragan

There apparently was a missing bottle of supplement which would increase the value of the box dramatically. Update coming soon in the main body of the review.

What a terrible box with both the crappy contents and poor value. As a female fitness enthusiast, there is nothing in this box I would desire. Don’t think my boyfriend, who is a fitness fanatic would dig it either. Definitely not at that price point. Pass.

Janet

Wow, that really is a horrible box. Clearly the target audience is not women! What in this box is actually going to help someone get fit?

Crystal

This box should get the “Worst Sub Box ” award ??

Karen

I think it’s neck and neck for that prize with that atrocious Living Social “box” that went out last month, but at least that one was pretty cheap. This one is a pretty pricey whiff! Good lord this is bad.

Crystal

Oh yea I forgot about that one lol

Anya

What was in the living social mystery box?

...

For $55 I thought it would include clothing, workout gear, etc. I don’t see the discount for buying multiple months, but at this rate it costs more than Adidas.

The poster is disappointing and personally I wouldn’t wear anything from that company knowing they promote themselves like that.

Good review. Agreed that this looks like a terrible box.

This box looks awful. Two other fitness subscription boxes I’ve heard of and would love to see reviewed are StrengthCrate and Barbellabox!

Anne

Ooh, I’d love to hear more about StrengthCrate! My husband is getting jealous of all my subs and has me looking for something for him – preferably fitness-related. (This one would DEFINITELY not be for him….)

Reply ButtonReply

Jenny

Here’s their website http://strengthcrate.com/. I haven’t personally gotten a box from them but you can choose from a warm-up box to a GOAT box. The price ranges from $35-$75 per box but from what I can tell actually includes apparel, supplements, and a piece of fitness equipment. Looks to be a decent fitness box but I would love to see reviews for it here!

Kiara

Yikes… This box was a bust I think.

Wendy

In addition… I think you owe us a photo of NYX just to get that box out of our heads.

Ragan

I have about four dog box reviews I’m working on. I’ll try to do Barkbox next so you will get a Nyx photo soon.

Wendy

Ew… least favorite box of all time. And the chicks making out? lol!

AnnD

I would be VERY disappointed in this box. The value is just not there.
