Boxwalla is a subscription box company dedicated to sharing the best food, books, films, and green beauty items.  They curate bi-monthly boxes in each of those categories.  Subscribe to one or more, and add or switch interests at any time!

This is a review of the December 2015 Green Beauty box.  Subscriptions for February are closed so if you sign up now, your first box will arrive in April.  (The cutoff for getting the April box is March 15.)

Boxwalla kindly sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Subscription Box: Boxwalla Green Beauty

boxwallabeauty-january-2016-inside2

Here’s a look inside.  Pretty packaging (and lots of cornstarch peanuts, so I had to keep this away from my cats – they eat cornstarch peanuts…).

The box is crafted of tree-free paper by workers at a small company in Rajasthan, India.  The process is child-labor-free and helps support artisans whose families have been making paper for generations!

The Cost: $49.95

The Products: Luxurious and effective green beauty products for your skin and body.  The products are crafted by artisans from all over the US.  All products are full-sized or large travel-sized products and are cruelty free.

Ships to: US (free)

Boxwalla included this letter with more information on the items.  When you sign up, you’ll also get an email newsletter with helpful tips.

boxwallabeauty-january-2016-candle

Aura Candle in Grounded (6 oz) – Value $14

This scent is green fig and teak with cyclamen.  I could totally identify the fig and the others make sense.  This is a woody scent with a bit of earthiness to it and it’s also very clean.  And although this is listed in the letter as a travel tin, it is actually pretty big for a travel tin.  It is made of soy wax with a lead-free wick.  Down to my yoga room it goes!

Hurraw! Lip Balm Moon Balm (full size!) – Value $4.29

This is raw and vegan.  I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten a Hurraw! balm from another box in the past but I don’t remember which one.  At any rate, this scent is new to me (vanilla, Peru balsam, and blue chamomile) and the balm is pretty moisturizing.  I have been keeping it on my nightstand.

boxwallabeauty-january-2016-cleanser

Soap and Paper Factory’s Shea Butter Hand Cream in “Snow Drop” (1 fl oz) – Value $18

This is strongly scented.  Like really strongly scented.  Like I can use it at night before bed and my hands will still be faintly scented 6 or 7 hours later.  It is pretty moisturizing, though, and I like the combination of vanilla and sandalwood scents.

Lilikoi Living Bamboo Buff Face Wash (4 fl oz) – Value $32

This is free of silicones, synthetic fragrances, parabens, petroleum derivatives, phthalates, etc.  It has a lot of antioxidants from fruit extracts and it exfoliates with bamboo particles (no microbeads!).  This is totally a “me” kind of product and I really like it.  I would buy more of this and I would try other products from this brand.

boxwallabeauty-january-2016-soap

Aunt Nancy’s Handmade Soap (Orange and Clove) – Value $3

Aunt Nancy’s Handmade Soap (Unscented) – Value $3

These are half size soaps.  I kind of like getting multiple smaller soaps so you can try out the different types before buying.  I also like that an unscented one was offered so you can still use it if you have sensitive skin.  I’ve been using the orange and clove one in the shower for a few days and I like it a lot.  The warm, spicy scent is nice when it’s super cold outside.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $74.29 for the December 2015 Boxwalla Beauty subscription box.  That is about $24 over the cost of the box, which I think is pretty good for a collection of socially conscious, higher-end green beauty products.  Most brands in here were new to me and I’ve found several items I’ll definitely buy again.  Everything felt very nice and luxe and the hand cream packaging was just adorable.   And the sizes were generous so you can use the items for long enough to determine whether or not they’ll work for you.  Overall, I’m very happy with this one!

What do you think of the Boxwalla Beauty box?

This box looks like a great green beauty box! All new brands I never heard off. I ordered the cleopatra box and I can’t wait! I wished I could have gotten this box I have been wanting to try out lilikoi products.

They have a book box as well. Has anyone got their book box? Goggled and didn’t come up with anything on their past book boxes.

Hi Elizabeth – Yes, as Ragan mentioned we are new- the December boxes were the first set of boxes that went out. Most of our book reviews are on instagram and you can check them out on our feed (i’ve linked to it above).

There is one blog review of our December Book box – if you google ‘lilits library and boxwalla’ you should be able to find it.

We shipped the February Book box to MSA this week so you should start seeing the book reviews here as well.

hope that helps!

I think they are pretty new (maybe have only had 2 or 3 boxes come out so far). So there probably aren’t that many reviews of any of the boxes yet.

Ragan, you have a whole room for Yoga? Awesome! =]

We have a one-room finished basement in our house. I claimed it for yoga/exercise. So I keep my treadmill down there and all my weights, yoga mats, a TV and all my yoga/exercise DVDs, misc. equipment, etc. Right now we are putting together a home gym down there too. But I have decorated it with stuff from India (and Tibet and Nepal) I have gotten from subscription boxes and I burn candles and incense down there to keep insects out (there is a poorly-hung door to the outside) and because otherwise it would get musty.

I figure it is better to put the room to some use than to store random junk in there! (Though random junk storage has been moved to the dining room…)
