Baklavva2

I have had a lifelong love affair with baklava.  The crispy layers, drenched in sticky honey, mixed with spices and nuts is just heaven in my mouth.  Unfortunately, it's never had a moment, like cupcakes or macarons, but it is rave worthy nonetheless.  If you like baklava, you know that it isn't always the easiest treat to find.

With the 1 pound subscription, they promise 14-16 pieces in each shipment.  My shipment had 14 pieces of baklava, so this box is right on target so far.  They say that if you store the treats at room temperature, they should last about 14 days, and they also give recommended freshness times for the refrigerator and freezer.

My baklava came a bit beat up this month.  The topping on the mamoul was strewn about the package.  Obviously, this isn't the company's fault, I just thought I would mention it.  They ship with bubble wrap cushioning the package, and ship in a sturdy cardboard box.

Mini Roses - Cashew

I think these are my favorite treats that I receive from Baklavva.  I really like the ratio of filling to pastry, and the flavor is excellent.  The mini roses aren't as saturated with honey as traditional baklava is, so it's a bit more dry than the original.  It's a bit less messy to eat!

Mamoul - Pistachio

The best way I can describe it is a pistachio filled bar cookie and it was fabulous!  It looks like there are a few different ways to make mamoul - some are made with orange and some are made with nuts.  Most of the recipes I found were cookies that fully enclosed the fruit or nut mixture.  I prefer the way this bar cookie was made instead.  It was the perfect ratio of cookie to filling, and it was delicious!

Baklavva5

Baklava - Walnut

You really can't go wrong with original baklavva.  It is just the right amount of sweet,   crispy, and flaky.  This version is walnut and it is fabulous as always!

Bassma - Cashew

This was really good.  The texture was quite chewy and moist, and the flavor was excellent.  I love the cashew based treats that I've been receiving from Baklavva, and this one was no different!

Verdict:  The value of this box has to be determined by, you, the individual subscriber.  I think the cost of the box is very reasonable for the products included.  The cost breakdown per piece is about $1.49 when you factor in the shipping for a one pound box.  Baklava is easy $3.00 a piece where I live, due to the expensive nuts and honey used to make each piece - which makes this a steal in comparison.

With that, my recommendation is usually the same for this box - if you love baklava and can't access it easily where you live - I highly recommend this subscription!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

Bekki I have really wanted to try this and the coupon is a good start… My ttwo worries are soggy non crispy Baklava (which I have received elsewhere) and how the shipping will hold up in the hot summertime–I am in Northern California and worry something shipped from back east will arrive in terrible shape?!
