WANTABLE MAKEUP JAN 2016 - BOX

Wantable Makeup
4.2 overall rating

Wantable is a monthly subscription service that has 3 different plans: Makeup, Accessories, and Intimates. (Plus a styling service for Fitness wear and clothing similar to Stitch Fix in the try-then-buy model.) It’s one of the pricier subscriptions ($40 a month), but everything they send is full size, and they fully customize the boxes based on your preferences. You also can return individual items from any box for a refund.

WANTABLE MAKEUP JAN 2016 - info 1

Here is my invoice. In addition to the retail price of the item, they also include “your price,” which is how much you would get refunded if you wanted to return that item. (Wantable recently introduced individual item returns to their subscriptions. Previously, it was keep the entire box or send the entire box back for a refund).

You get to take a very detailed survey of what items you love, like and dislike. You won’t receive anything in your dislike list. Here’s how my personal preferences are set up. Also, your stylist can send you notes or respond to comments you’ve added to your profile.

I included mine this month to show you because she mentions that she sent me a liquid primer. Well, she didn’t. I’m not mad about not getting it, and this discrepancy isn’t an issue enough to contact Wantable about, but I wanted to show you. In November, my stylist called me by the name of the town I live in. Small mistakes, but to be honest it makes me wonder just how carefully the stylists pay attention, you know?

WANTABLE MAKEUP JAN 2016 - items 1

Frankie Rose Cosmetics Defined Seduction Lip Liner in Bella Rose – Value: $18 (My Price $8.57)

I really like this lip liner! It isn’t smudge-proof, but it has great coverage and is a really pretty matte. (photo at end of article)

Liptini Straight Up Color Lipstick in Pink Champagne – value: $18 (My price: $8.57)

This is an alright lipstick. It’s a really pretty shade but it’s definitely glittery and shimmery, which I don’t prefer in my lipsticks. The shades of lipstick and the lip liner go together really well for layering.

WANTABLE MAKEUP JAN 2016 - items 2

Elizabeth Mott All-Over Shadow Brush – value: $10 (my price: $4.76)

This brush is in a lot of subscription boxes. It works, so I’m happy to have an extra.

Erin’s Faces Makeup Setting Spray – value: $25 (My Price: $11.90)

I really like the size of this setting spray, but the actual spray isn’t great. It’s not a fine mist at all and felt more like I was just spraying myself in the face with a normal squirt bottle.

Elizabeth Mott Pop! Goes the Shadow in Champagne – value: $13 (My Price: $6.19)

WANTABLE MAKEUP JAN 2016 - items 4

This champagne eye shadow is pretty, but it arrived broken, unfortunately.

It’s still pretty usable. I did contact Wantable customer service about it and they have a replacement already on the way.

Here’s a look with the eyeshadow (as my base color) and the lipstick.

And here’s what the lip liner looks like! I really like this color/finish from the liner!

Verdict: This was an alright Wantable Makeup box! I’ll use everything. The value of this box adds up to $84, which I’m happy with.

Your makeup looks beautiful! Loving the lipstick and bronze shadow with your complexion💄What foundation and/or concealer did you use(if you can remember-lol)? I always forget exactly what makeup that I used when it gets good feedback or I especially like the look; then, I do the Inspector Cluseau trying to figure it out by reconstructing the “scene of the crime).

I gave up my sub when I kept getting black eyeliner and mascara in every single box. My reviews of products never got looked at in my opinion.

If you have “dislike” for any item and they send it to you, then you can contact them for a new item. I’m surprised that happened to you though; I subbed to them for over a year and that only happened once to me.

This used to be my absolute favorite subscription, but I’ve noticed a decided downward trend. Out of the last 4 boxes, only 2 have been definite yeses, with the other two only questionable. This month’s box will kind of be the decider for me — if it’s not a yes, then I’ll seriously consider cancelling the sub.

Haley, I love that you take the time to show yourself with the products; it gives that little extra to your reviews! I was considering this Sub, but with missing products, broken makeup pieces and inattentive stylists for FORTY BUCKS? They need to tighten quality control at that price point.

I’m not actually sure the “liquid primer” was a missing item. It wasn’t on my invoice and just not in my box, and this is a correct number of items for a full box. I don’t know if she meant the settings spray, but I agree, it’s inattentive.

Do you think she might have meant the setting spray when she mentioned the liquid primer? I know they aren’t the same but maybe she didn’t realize 🙂

Haley

That’s possible, I suppose. I considered that and wondered if the setting spray could be used as a prep/primer, too, but it doesn’t say that in the listing. Even if she meant the setting spray though, that’s quite a totally different product. Either she just mixed up and said the wrong thing or she wasn’t knowledgeable about the products she was including, I think.

Would you ever be willing to do a make-up tutorial Haley? Your make-up here is gorgeous!

Haley

Thank you, you’re sweet Ellie! I would be willing, but I am also picking up some more makeup boxes to review so I can also try to be a little extra detailed about my application process in some reviews, too! Especially when it comes to the makeup items from the boxes. =]

On the setting spray, if you like the formula, just pour it into a bottle that sprays better. I keep one or 2 of my favorite bottles for face and for hair items. When I get a crappy sprayer on one of my products, I just pour it in the bottle with the better sprayer – problem solved!

Great tip Jen thanks.

Not a bad box. I have that brush and shadow and love both. They sent them from IPSY last year. They do send out pretty decent brushes though. I have a dual ended crown brush that is my favorite!
